This video lecture is much appreciated. Thanks.
NOTE; I'm not English though I've lived in England for more than 40 years.
I have difficulty recognising that country as "...dank, grey, dreary, windy, unheated".

"competition" is the normal way to dumb it down, among other things it leaves out the abiotic factors and other elements of what Darwin pointed to such as mutual aspects, as described in Stephen Jay Gould's 1988 article 'Kropotkin was no crackpot' and the book 'Darwin Without Malthus: The Struggle for Existence in Russian Evolutionary Thought' by Danial P Toades.
Secondly Charles Darwin's grandfather Erasmus Darwin believed in "transmutation" of species so his family were not strangers to the idea, furthermore evolution was not an unknown idea even before Darwin went aboard the HMS Beagle, Lamarck had his own hypothesis of how evolution functions and before him Buffon espoused "ecological succession" but was forced by the church to denounce his hypothesis and findings on evolution.
Darwin absolutely did not invent the idea of evolution, that is very old.

doesn't this negate the idea that the mutations and natural selection do NOT create new species? the mouse still remained mouse. if the mouse became a cat then that will support the idea that mutation and natural selection produces new species.

@@boreddude8531" if the mouse became a cat ..."
If you want that to happen, then you want to see magic, not evolution. If you want to see a mouse turn into a cat, ask those who believe in God ... I mean, a God could turn a mouse into a cat, right? So why don't we see that happen?
