- Nhl hockey 2023 24 - Today's video is a little different from the typical nhl highlights , hockey news and trade rumors or mic'd up / on-ice funny moments recaps and reactions. If you want more rankings style videos and ones that include all the teams, let me know by leaving a like and subscribe. I also chose to mention obvious picks like connor bedard matthew tkachuk leon draisaitl and auston matthews , but giving alternative or unique choices for a lot of them because I don't think the superstar should always get the C. Don't worry, I'll stay make lots of nhl news and hockey highlights videos (like that connor bedard michigan goal which was wild), but I want to add in top 10 and rankings plus stuff like this. As a Canucks fan Pettersson is the wrong choice. He doesn’t want the C, but even if he did, he’s not a vocal leader at all, and I feel that the C would weigh him down as opposed to lift him up like it has with Hughes. Besides Quinn, JT Miller is the obvious choice. He’s a leader on and off the ice and holds everyone accountable including himself.

I actually hate it when teams just names their best player their captains LOL. Like it’s just bound to fail everytime. I respect teams that out a C on their true leader even if the players is at the bottom 6 or short term deal
Yup I hate that too, I stopped the video on the Zach Hyman pick, Hyman or Nurse as captain an I would of sued this TH-cam channel for traumatizing me.
I seen someone mentioning Vancouvers Elias Petterson, Petey is great, but he refuses to wear the Captain C, pretty sure he wants to earn it, not just get it given to him so he won’t leave the team like a certain brother in Ottawa.
Foligno is the leader no questions asked in the Hawks locker room. He doesn’t have the C but he has the skills and qualities of a leader, and he is the one to take charge and rightfully so
Next captain for the Wild will be Faber. I can't think of a better player when he's a born and raised Minnesotan, played for the U of M, and is already their best defenseman at the age of 21. Even if Kaprizov decides to stay when his current deal expires, I just think Faber would be a better leader.
26 year long Stars fan here... no way most of us here would want Robertson as captain. He shys away from the tough plays and is not a playoff type player. Miro is the real deal, and he lets his play do the talking, always gives it 100% and is so smart and reassuring on the back end.

Foligno is a great shout if he is happy ‘babysitting’ the C for a season or 2 and help the wee man develop. Even though I’m no Hawks fan, he is a joy to watch. You can’t help but appreciate a talent like Bedard, but please look after him!
Loved the video! I’m from Montreal. I think Caufield was a good pick, but I would give it to Guhle instead. Guhle was team Canada junior’s captain and has shown incredible maturity since he has been a Hab. He is the best defenseman on the team. Honorable mention to David Savard also, who has been such a great leader since he arrived in Montreal.

Wings fan here and I’ve gotta say I disagree with the Cat pick. Seider is already a top defenseman in the league, can hold down a power play, and is still unbelievably tough and physical. His ability to stay composed while getting shelled every night, and not let bad streaks get to him would make him an excellent captain
As a fellow wings fan, have to agree. Cat would be nice but at what cost does it hurt to give it to seider, kane would be cool but REALLY weird, either Seider or Walman for me if they wanted to wait with Seider, Even Fabbri of Ghost if you wanted to give it to some of the voices on the team. (yes I know ghost is here ona 1 year deal but who knows)

Back when they had polls on TH-cam for the next captain of the leafs I picked Reilly as well.
I agree that Rielly would do a great job as captain of the team. But JT deserves it and shows it both on and off the ice. Guy goes above and beyond. He gets so much crap about being captain for no good reason

You're spot-on, Johnny, about Rod Brind'Amour. Dude will basically forever be Mr. Carolina Hurricane, even with dudes like the Staal brothers and Justin Williams in the team's history.
I LOVE the Bryan Rust pick man. He is a very energetic and underrated player who has carried the team at times
I really hope Chicago chooses Foligno or Conner Murphy because if they happen to choose Bedard we run the risk of shutting him down and making him have to many responsibilities to quickly

As a Bolt's fan, I'd believe it would be Heddy for a few years, and then Pointer. Kuch doesn't scream leadership like Heddy and Pointer do, but Heddy's contract is running up and Pointer is signed till like 2028.
I think it would come down to a choice between Point & Cirelli, with the edge going to Pointer. We Tampa fans love Kuch, but I think we'd all agree that A LOT would have to go wrong for him to get the C.
@@boltinabottle6307 for sure, I love Kuch, but he lets his emotions get the best of him, and I think to be a true Captain you need to have poise. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Pointer upset. 😂
For Colorado, it would definitely be Makar. Mack doesn't want it, Mack hates attention, Makar is much better at media and speaking etc, Makar is way more level headed and calm under pressure. Mackinnon is a hot head.
For the Coyotes a Dark Horse candidate for Captain is Lawson Crouse.
His a guy who does everything, hitting, fighting, scoring, PP, PK, is likeable, has great chemistry for the team, and has been coming up as a goal scorer with over 20 last year and on pace to score over 30 this year.

Stars fan here, Miro gets it easily. You may not see a leader in him but we do. Most TOI of any Stars' players and holds it tf down 99.99% of the time.
Tom Wilson for the caps for sure. I think he will end up being captain in the next few years when Ovi retires.
Had you asked me before the season started and it was looking like Backstrom was making his comeback I would’ve picked him, but obviously that can’t happen now with him kinda being retired.
But Bäckström was really respected on that team and around the league, so while it’s not as fiery of a pick as Wilson, it would’ve been solid imo.

the captain can't be a target of hate by every other team (at least, they shouldn't be). Tkachuk was slaying it last year, pretty quiet this year, but is essentially the Panther's personal chirper. Reinhart, Montour, Verhege? Don't get me wrong, Tkachuk was a monster in the playoffs, but to say that right now on his second year...?

Love the video! Also love the marchessault pick for Vegas. He’s been here since day 1, has been awesome in the community, helped the city get over the 2017 tragedy, and he was rewarded for it with a Stanley cup and well deserved conn Smythe. He has that Hyman-like feel to him on and off the ice. Stone and pietrangelo are awesome for the team and will go down as Vegas legends but it has to be marshy for me.
Also, I love that you’re trying to make different types of videos. A suggestion: On longer videos like this, maybe you could experiment with some background music? You have a good reporter-like voice, but maybe some background music could enhance the vids even more. Thanks for the awesome video and happy holidays!

Personally i don't think that Debrincat would be the best choice for captain if for whatever reason Larkin wasn't there. I would personally either put the "C" on Seider or Wait for Danielson to come up and Develop. Cause i think Danielson, if he pans out, has a really good shot at being in the winged wheel for a long time and leadership skills to be it when Larkin's gone.

Fair enough. Was thinking mostly because Couturier has missed so much time with injury and been away from the team for long periods of time, whereas TK really seems to set the tone for that team + lead them in scoring, but Couturier is a fantastic pick
There is definitely merit to having tk in a leadership role, for me - him and sanheim the most talented out of our young core. Either way man still a quality video , easy decision to subscribe. Happy Holidays!

In regard to Krieder, he expressed that he didn't want it, there's an interview where he talks about it. I was puzzled too, then read the article, he didn't want to take on the role and felt his influence was enough as is essentially, he wanted to focus on his play.
And boy has he taken his game to another level the last couple of seasons
As a Wings fan I feel like Seider would be the right guy for captain after Larkin, hopefully many years from now. But I think he could get an "A" as soon as next season.
Seider needs an A asap and in the pre-season he’s usually wearing one. DeBrincat is the next choice, and Raymond right after that.
As a Kraken fan, I have been saying and will continue to say that I think Jared McCann deserves the C
My pick is McCann over Dunn just because I feel like Dunn still has discipline issues (not too dissimilar from Brady Tkachuk) and the Kraken would be better off with someone that maintains a clearer head - both are signed relatively long term but for my money McCann is ready to be a leader.
That said I think Vince Dunn could get an A as soon as next season depending on what the off-season brings though.
As a golden knights fan I’m kinda peeved you didn’t include William Karlson in the mix. He’s been very consistent and I think he’s 2nd in team for points behind eichel. I would def give it to karlson if marchessault left.
Like you, I, also, picked Bryan Rust as the obvious choice to be Crosby's replacement as the captain of the Pens. Letang's looking at the end of his career, and has been...meh Malkin's play has been so inconsistent that I couldn't pick him. Guentzel's been a solid player, but he's a pretty quiet guy. Rust, however, has the fire to be a captain.
Slavin over Aho for Carolina? I think Aho with the C has the writing on the wall already....

As a Chicago fan I think that next year foligno will get the c and at the end of bedards elc they will give him the captaincy and they will ink him for a lot of money and a lot of years
I'm a Dallas fan and I agree, Dallas is a hard one. I'd go with Pav even if he only plays for one more year, he's too good of a leader. After that probably go Hintz over Robertson. Robertson is great but I get no vibes of a hard competitive edge or play that inspires teams. Glad Benn is still around, beast mode Benn!
I have to say the choice for the hurricanes is good but as a fan myself it would probably be Jordan martinok but a good young pick I love the video
I love Marchy, but hes a hothead on the ice. You need your captain to be a cool, levelheaded man when under pressure.
Foligno should definitely be Chicago's captain
As a Stars fan, my number one right now would be Miro Hieskanen, he is one of the best man in the league and the entire team plays to his style when he's on the ice, however he is, like Roope, very quiet. So if I had to pick one long term closer to the time Benn retires it would be Wyatt Johnston. Wyatt has very quickly become one of the best players on the team, his growth from rookie to sophomore year has been tremendous, and while being small he is very outspoken and brings a different level of energy to the team.
If the Wings captain wasn't Larkin, it'd for sure be Seider

I honestly feel like at this point the C is more used more as a symbol for a teams best player or the face of the franchise. Like with the hawks Foligno will probably be the leader in the locker room until he retires but bedard will probably get the C next year because he’s the face and future of the franchise

couldnt agree more with your opinion on the leafs captain being morgan reilly ive been saying for years and i think that as a leafs fan there just isnt a strong connection with tavares
Throwing my two cents into the ring that nobody asked for: Personally my next candidate for Coyotes captain is Lawson Crouse. He's a player who can do a little bit of just about everything, whether it be scoring, hitting, fighting, etc, and he brings so much energy to the team every night they play. He also just recently signed a 5 year extension, and he's said himself that he wants to br a Coyote for life. I think that's so important for a team as poorly perceived as the Coyotes are, and he clearly loves playint in the desert.
I know Keller is the obvious choice because he's the only name everyone knows and he's been there through it all, but I think Crouse's play style and energy just screams captain to me. I do hope they name one eventually, but I get why Tourigny sticks with the group leadership, it's definitely good to have that shared level.
As a Leafs fan i thought Mo should have got the C long before we even signed JT. Hes the longest active Leaf and probably the most mature, professional leader of the team, besides JT of course. Hes the backbone of that team, without a question.

He’s long gone so I guess I’ll let that go. Rod could be a phenomenal Bodybuilder too, I mean he is,but I meant nationally known

I can't believe you did not mention Nicklas Bäckström for Washington. For me, as a Caps fan, he would be my choice for captain even before Ovechkin.

I have said for years (as a caps fan) oshie or tom wilson should be the captain. ovi is captain for marketing reasons i believe
In LA it will probably be Mikey Anderson but I would go with Danault hands down.
For Dallas it’s Wyatt Johnston, he lived with pavs, he’s been tied with Benn at the hip. He’s the clear successor once Benn passes.

YEP Tuch would be great for the Sabres! He loves the team. It was the team he rooted for as a kid.
Cousins would be great because he has shown up to Rochester Americans games to root for them in the playoffs.
Dahlin has asked opponents to meet him after the game to settle things.

For the oilers although Hyman is a great pick I would probably go with Darnell nurse
Nurse would go over like a lead balloon with some fans, but he'd be a good captain.
Byfield might be a good future choice for the kings but they also have Mikey Anderson as doughtys partner who shows great leadership
Lifelong Sabres fan here. Really love the idea of Tuch being our captain. Don’t get me wrong, I love Kyle Okposo and he’s a great captain. But if we had to choose someone else, Tuch or Zemgus Girgensons would both be excellent choices.
Qb will be a captain soon he’s a good leader and plays wells with each line and always has 100% energy win or loss
as an isles fan there are a lo of guys it could be but I would go Horvat 100%, he brings a lot of leadership qualities to the team

If you look at krieders stats year over year, you'll notice far more goals than assists generally, he's not a team player in that sense, ovi is like that too, but I guess generational talents get the C

I have to disagree with Moose for MN. I think JEEK is the best choice. Been with the Wild since he came over from Sweden. Our best centerman. Plays 200ft every night. PP, PK, never afraid to get in the dirty areas, and doesn't care if he gets abused being there. Plus he plays a clean game, but is amazing at getting under everyone else's skin.
Also a Shea Weber puck magnet at times!

As a big Wings fan my vote is Jake Wallman, great personality on and off the ice, and through some of the little stuff he does like tugging on the logo when he got 1st star seems like he's committed to Detroit and going to be there awhile.
Is Nashville blows up and Josi and forsberg aren't around I'd pick Colton scissons for the C for the similar reason you picked Rust for Pittsburgh
I agree with all the other teams, but as an Isles fan Casey Cizikas and Bo Horvat are the only ones that make sense instead of Nelson
As a Boston fan, I think Mcavoy would be a much better captain than pasta because pasta almost never works hard and just gives no effort on d and isn’t a good role model to look up to as an ideal player
Also: I feel Marchand is the only player fit for a captain in Boston right now because the heavy majority of the team doesn’t work hard and don’t lead a good example

The kings it will be doughty but after that Mikey Anderson has been a leader since he came into the league. He’s also super steady on the ice and a big glue guy in the room. QB will get a letter eventually but if Mikey is there it’ll be him
