Lyrics:
The young stale memories of, play the role to your part
Librarian, find me the pole, the one that kicks your head in
To my own time, roll your own innocence by
Grab on to my sleeve, the one that grabs at your ankle
Debate to understand that we all have a flaw
Then fail to represent your life as you know it
God grant you one wish, to turn back the time
Correct and create, making sense of...
Me and my star, Matthew, goodnight
You know by law, when you'll be forgiven
Maria my star, Matthew, goodnight
You know my Lord, when you'll be forgiven
So they pulled your confidence down
With those verbal discrepancies
Now and then, you'll gain what they've lost
Through a challenge of unpronounced
Pain is only a pulse
If you just stop feeling it
You might be able to use
The very thing that makes us up
Me and my star, Matthew, goodnight
You know by law, when you'll be forgiven
Maria my star, Matthew, goodnight
You know my Lord
Wait now, here, when will you believe me?
I'm merely asking you to help me, when did I say to murder?
Wait now, here, please hear me out
Time consumer, time consuming, consume me
Down and out, now
Me and my star, Matthew, goodnight
You know by law, when you'll be forgiven
Maria my star, Matthew, goodnight
You know my Lord, when you'll be forgiven
You know, goodnight
And I'll promise you that
You know, goodnight
And I'll promise you that

I woke up with this song stuck in my head, I hadn't listened to it in 15 years, I decided to play it at 9am and now I'm crying, listening to it for the 5th or 6th time in a row. I miss growing up.
I was 15 when I discovered Coheed and they completely shaped me as a human….Im 34 now dudes…Where did the time go?!! It feels like just last year.
Same 😍
I was 15 and im 34 now 🫡
I HAAATED Coheed when I was in high school and college because I was a metal elitist and thought it was emo but now at 37 and more accepting, Coheed is really exceptional, great to blast at the pool, solid summer music for me
I had heard favor house Atlantic, and went out to buy in keeping secrets, but the hot topic only had second stage, and I bought it on a whim and I drove a 95 jeep Grand Cherokee when I was 17-18, and that album stayed in that cd player for a few years, it was literally the only cd I kept in that vehicle. Such nostalgia, remembering learning how to drive, with the boys, we all enrolled at the same driving school and took turns learning how to drive and we all carpooled to highschool. Man, those were the days.
Would love to go back ….
Guarantee you and your friends were dope
🔥🔥
I was 16 and my friend and I went to this old spooky abandoned hospital close to our town to explore. On the way back he put this on in the car and the rest is history.
HEAVY nostalgia with this album and song. Was the first Coheed song I ever heard and fell in love, then remember seeing them in Charlotte in 2011 and no band has ever came close in concert since.
My nostalgia to this is MTV early morning going to high school 9th grade 2003-4 that's coheed for real over and out captain!!!! Timeless music for time this time oh what a time to be alive....
This is one of if not the greatest band to see live
I was 12 or 13, same thing bud.
My dad died of a heroin overdose - my mom has moved us into my grandma's house and I was sleeping on the couch, failing at school. I didn't give a fuck about anything except my cd player and my skateboard.
I don't even know why I got the album, my god. Grabbed it from the store I think along with the system of a down album both had just come out.
Time consumer, delirium trigger, everything evil changed my young life. And I was already aware of a broad range of music too. Had never heard anything like this before, shook me to my core. Emotion pouring off.
Good god it's been over twenty years.
August Burns Red and FIt for a King eliminate Coheed & Cambria with quality of shows, sorry
August Burns Red: YES! They kill it. Definitely NOT Fit for a King though. Seen them 3 times & their openers eclipsed them every time.
the drumming on this track is still insane
Yeah. When I was learning drums the intro to this was what I held up as 'if I can play this I will consider myself good'.
THANK YOU
This is such a beautiful album. Takes me back...
Best Coheed album hands down. Totally flawless.
Coheed has been and still continues to be one of the most influential bands in my entire life and will always be
Happy 20th Anniversary to the album that started it all!
Yes................................. it's been that long
Takes me back to when I was a kid listening to coheed and playing runescape
I love Runescape
I was 12 or 13? My dad died of a heroin overdose - my mom had moved us into my grandma's house and I was sleeping on the couch, failing at school. I didn't give a fuck about anything except my cd player and my skateboard.
I don't even know why I got the album, my god. Grabbed it from the store I think along with the system of a down album, both had just come out I feel. How the hell did I know to get that album?

“Pain is only a pulse, if you just stop feeling it”
I really like the part "time consumer, time consuming, consume meeeee"
Still probably one of the best intros
One of my favorites for sure
Pain is only a pulse if you just stop feeling it 😙
This song is the theme to my teenage years
RIP, Matthew, Maria and Josephine. 🙏🏼
I know dude so sad. Especially Josephine.
Nice Pink Floyd profile pic btw
Hammertime.
Just curious who were they? I'm sure this album is dedicated to them in some way. Just curious
@@reiplush8769 curious as well
@@reiplush8769 Coheed is a concept band. Their first 8 albums revilve around a series of sci fi graphic novels and comic books called the Amory Wars.
Even at this early stage, Claud was a far superior composer and storyteller than his contemporaries, there's not even a comparison, this song bleeds pure emotion from every note.
only one to compare is Anthony Green but he comes alittle after and is alittle more abstract
Claudio is a huge talent.
@@soculese massively underrated
His contemporaries are who
What an in-depth take on this song!! I love that the emotions rip and pulls through your soul!! CC for life!
Knowing the story makes this hurt
I fell in love with this album like 12 years ago.
I introduced this to my then boyfriend, now husband, to this; his favorite band now.
You both have great taste! The best band there is!
Amen! Best band of all time
Your marriage is right on track. You're blaming shit on him already that YOU started. They're a great fucking band. Good luck
@@jamesnorton7601 wow. you really do have some issues. I love CC, and we are happily married and have enjoyed their concerts.
@@365daystillLoveHisRevenge damn right I do. It was a good joke. Have fun you two with CC
Maria My Star!!!!!
This is really well written: Instrumentation used to perfection to build up of suspense and uncertainty. Then when he begins to sing, it's as if you have met up at the edge of the world. Like something dreadful and beautiful is happening. This is really good shite! :-)
wow.....ive been listening to this song almost 20 years and ive never been able to sum it up so well...cheers!
When he sings you want to jump off that edge and die. Terrible
Agreed. Good melody.
@@nobiazcustomsinc5030 same mate. I LOVE how this ties into 21:13. That part in 21:13 I have to literally try and hold back tears
There was still so much mystery behind the storyline and lyrical content at the time it was released. A looming sense of danger & adventure on the horizon.
Happy 20th birthday to this wonderful, wonderful album.

My favorite album!
After you read the comics that "Maria my star matthew goodnight " line brings tears to my eyes seriously reccomend the comics get comixology unlimted and read them free for 30 days its worth it
Obviously the best Coheed song bar none
I think Everything Evil gives this one a run for its money.
2113 also gives this song a run for its money. Hell, it even reprises Time Consumer, giving this song more weight there on the Silent Earth album.
They seriously take it to such an amazing Vibe!!
One of their better songs
Equal Vision is the best record label ever. All my favorite bands come from here and I’m just realizing. Thank you!
Nostalgia.. Wish I could rewind time
Over 20 years ago this album changed my young life.
Holy shit, does this ever conjure memories.
Shit. Used to skate to this. Now I'm an old man.
Been awhile since I dived into coheed and I'm so happy Spotify brought me back with this masterpiece. Intro is amazing and voice is amazing like usual
This album still blows my mind, even after all these years.
God grant me one wish to turn back time🙏🤗🙂💜💙💚💛🔴🔵🖤❤️
Why I feel just as happy listening to it now.. but we cant forever.
Be careful what you wish for
I’m 30 years old, NOW... I will never forget the metaphorical branding that ‘Welcome Home’ bestowed upon my soul!
But, shame on me , because I never delved deeper than Apollo:4!
Longwinded point being is that I recently read this albums corresponding Amory Wars Deluxe(complete) and as I’m sure almost all here are well aware.
So, now I have the privilege AND pleasure of being able to start from phase one and listen/watch with this beautiful, broad, mythological vision that has be n bestowed upon us from Claudio The Splendiferous.
Seriously... sometimes music finds YOU at the right time and I feel like that is the care with my experience. I’m ready for so much more💿
Same here when I was younger I just liked the song now I’m older the meaning behind the songs is awesome
I haven’t gotten any further than this album, apollo 4, and afterman. Afterman was my first introduction to them, as my dad played Sentry the Defiant, and I loved it. Been a fan ever since, and I plan to delve deeper.
Top 10 songs for me of all time.
Same. But all 10 for me are coheed so.. Lol
Brilliant!
Whata beautiful song...
Every one of the albums I can listen to alllllll the way through
And the award for my favourite song in the world goes to!
This song goes out to all the followers and the followed…
Love love LOVE this song, always.
My favorite song by coheed
I am in love with song
thanks coheed and cambria for the song
Coheed ❤❤
Love what you've done with the cover animation :D
The best.
Hell yeah
Stay safe during this pandemic everyone
No
oi you too mate
Thank you travy

20 years
Yo. Revolution!
pain is only a pulse
Coheed and Cambria is like the Rush of emo music
When this album came out when I was highschool that is exactly what we said haha.
❤
Reissue this on vinyl !
it's never been? That's surprising. Second Stage and In Keeping Secrets are by far their best in my own opinion.
They had like a 15 year anniversary tour, playing only this album and released the reissue Vinyl LP at their shows. Extremely limited. But I got like 3 signed copies. Favorite album by them.
Pain is only a pulse, if you'd just stop feeling it

They did and it sold out so fast 😢
regularly listen to this on half speed
A true enjoyer.
WAAAAAIIIIIITTTT now here please here me out. Time consumer, time consuming, consume me! For some reason I think about this lyric and have sung it it my head millions of times throughout the last however many years.
I was here when it only had 33 views. Who's number 2113?!?
A certain IRO-bot I imagine
Nice comment
Is it bad to love a band so much you named your daughter Cambria 😆
Man, I miss old Coheed. Got into these guys summer of 2004, got to see them at Warped Tour that year. They were so little known, they played one of the second stages (haha fitting) at like 11:30 AM. Nowhere near top billing. I loved poppy punky eclectic and unique Coheed. Shit that just made you want to dance. The oohs and ahhs. Now its more like Progheed and Cambria. I'm just not into that.
I saw them the first time at Warped Tour that year.... Funnily enough, I thought the lead singer was a chick until that moment lol
Sunny Day Real Estate vibes
is this the one with Dr. Know on it? (i haven't gotten to his solo on it yet but i feel like i can hear him ALL over the choruses)
Time consumer, time consume me
Always said this song sounds like an anime opening!
Fingers crossed for an animated adaptation of the Amory Wars sometime before I die
@@RLWuest Start a petition or something, man!
@@RLWuest Id much rather be live action tho😍
can someone who's read the comic tell me if 'in the promise you write' has any related meaning? thanks
It's been so long I can't remember, I'd check the covered reddit if it's still around
Vinyl repressing WHEN??
EDIT: Gentlemen, it is with great pleasure I info you that Equal Vision repressed the vinyl this year and I was able to get one.
For the love of all that is BAD BRAINS
Check out our tribute to Coheed and Cambria at Evidence of Hope Initiative --> Insights !!🥳
I cride on the neverender.
how can I find more music with the exact type of genre like this one?
It’s really hard to find a band similar to coheed, check out Thursday, and at the drive in. They’re kinda similar but not really lol
Honestly these guys are so one of a kind you might never find anything like them again.
This band is a one of a kind, you really won’t find anything like them
I agree w/ CJ, there will never be another Coheed. However, if you want more music like this album in specific, i’d suggest looking into post-hardcore and emotional-hardcore as genres. As CJ said At the Drive In and Thursday are good places to start. I’d really recommend Circa Survive, there seems to be a lot of overlap between their fans and coheed fans. The Mars Volta, Glassjaw etc. Don’t sound exactly like Coheed obv, but same genre. You can find tons of post hardcore playlists online.
MCR's first album has a bit similar feel to this but like what CJ said, not really.
Merr christum, folks
It's chrismin.
True story, I’m the Matthew that this song was written about
Sounds like a anime opening with hints of Deftones melody & tween era.
I preferred being young but I think there was just more room for love then
Wow.
For all this time....I thought it was librarian find me the poem..
Dr. Know from Bad Brains
Haha yes...that's right.👍
This song would have made a great Anime intro!
A lot of songs in the 2000s post-hardcore genre probably would make good anime intros, very anthemic and passionate :)
@@mavisevelyn618 please suggest some more bands with similar songs and feels like this
@@postmodernmarxistnihilist4282 well I’m no expert but
- The Receiving End Of Sirens - Planning A Prison Break

- The Fall Of Troy - FCPREMIX

Pretty much all the songs of their album "Emptiness " are an anime op material.
😂
Kind of weird when I hear my name in a song.
His voice is so hot I swear I'm not gay :(
Naw that’s gay fam.
I think its kinda cute no homo. I love when he sings so high and its sooo weird cuz hes this big dude with loooong curly hair lol.
He sings his balls off. Pure heart and soul. That's why I love him
that bass be hitting different at @0:52
I wasn't even born yet,. Headphones on. Walking through what I think was highschool. A black kid punched a window and I put ranch on my slice of pizza. Later that night. I ran for class president. As an unborn. Did not win. But my real name is Pedro. Allegedly. This song. This band made me the baby I am today.
I don’t believe in Sub-Genra labels or any of that garbage. But if I did need to label Coheed I would call it Theatrical Metal with Power Metal riffs. It’s beautiful. I’ve just become a fan this year. ❌❌❌❌
It's a bit of a stretch to call this "metal", never mind theatrical/power metal.
It's progressive rock with a little pop punk. That's basically what most people call it.
Artislife Lifeisart spot on
Combination of alt rock/metal, emo/post-hardcore and prog rock/metal
I usually go with prog-rock, but it’s not a stretch at all to call Coheed metal. Consider how much Claudio sounds like Ozzy, and the sci-fi/fantasy/horror themes are strong with them as well.
This record needs a remaster so bad , the production in 2021 is almost unlistenable haha.
No. this is the re-issue. the original is so much better.
