After reading all the comments, most of the people here just sembang tak kenal duit saja.
Talking about tin car or any safety issues, i dont think Myvi got anything better also, and still, people buy it. And look at the price comparison. It's super clear that why people are heading to look at this car.
So right now people are saying, USB charging port won't be attracting people, extra sun shield extender, 6 airbags? Is it cheapo airbags? CVT Gear Box?! WHAT?! Engine from Proton? Joker.
Hate to say that, some people really need GPS on their phone, is like ahve to use it almost all of thier trips. That USB charging is freaking useful. Yeah, you can argue that you can get 3rd party 1 for just RM30, or even cheaper.
Yeah, you can get 3rd party sun shield extender online, and heck, it has more functions than this plastic 1! Well, sometimes its a neat feature when something is just implements in it.
CVT.... yeah.... kinda suckie... Test drive it already... but for me, if it can serve you well for daily use, that is good enuff.... Unless you are a car enthusiasm.. then sorry larh... get a better car....
Yeah.. Proton build quality is a joke for the past few years.... But that doesnt means that it will be suck this time.... Sometimes, you just have to give somebody a chance... Look at Honda's history... their cars were never good back in those old days... they are also build as a, so called " MILO TIN" car.
If you guys think that you have the chance to drive a better car, appreciate it when you can. There is some other people who cant afford it. And they still hope to drive a bigger car, yet in a more affortable price, its the options they have. Like so many people said it already, rakyat now is not stupid, they are clever enuff to choose for what they can afford. Respect them.
AND, if you think that you can afford it and you deserve a better transport more than any one of them, then get yourself a better car, no 1 is stopping you.
thumbs up to you. Cost is definitely a major factor in determining a purchase. Most people would always go for the best car they can afford within their income bracket (sadly many starting youths tend to go for "biar papa asal bergaya" mindset). Perodua's market is aimed at affordable, economic cars while Proton strives towards sophisticated designs. I think it would be great if both companies not compete with each so much but each producing cars fulfilling different sets of customers. Yeah, i know this is very naive thinking.

I want to ask, I am debating on whether to get an Iriz or the new face-lifted Myvi or the Axia so I want ask you which of these three you think is best when it comes to absorbing the bumps on the road? kinda leaning towards the Iriz cause of its ESC feature...

Owned an Iriz for a year. Love it.
having owned a proton car for the past 7 years, i'd say the blm hasn't disappoint me yet. I'm actually choosing between this and fiesta, but i went for the latter because that has always been my favourite car make/car. But it's not really a choice between a better or worse car (although admittedly fiesta is marginally and arguably the better), that's not the point. Point is, with Iriz, i see them improving alot (test driven). You can't compare this to foreign B segments, it won't work. Stick to comparing this and Myvi, and you can see how far proton has come. Sure, there are still alot of improvements that can be made, but their reliability issues, etc, have really somewhat been tackled. It's mostly brand stigma that prevents alot of people from giving the national car a chance. If only Malaysians aren't complacent, I'm sure Proton has what it takes to be up there among the big boys someday. Iriz is a good start.
I drove the manual transmission and it felt good, one of the top hatchback
Rode in a friend's Iriz Premium. It is surprising to see this kind of quality from a Proton. Its great to see, even though they're not the best, they are improving. If I haven't bought a City, I would definitely got myself an Iriz. It was released only a month after my purchase. But the wonderful interior and features are only available for the premium though.

A lot of info in less than 9 min. Very useful and no bias... agree with the cvt but never expected the ride comfort.

iriz 1.6 on highway, alza myvi city vios stay away....base on my experience, The Iriz owner@myvi owner. Quality under DRB is good same as honda quality also under DRB.
It's base on person preference. It's their money daaa. If they can afford more expensive car for sure they can afford the cheaper one. That's why there's variety car choices in the market so they can pick any car they want base on their preference.

Drive Iriz and City or Vioz, you feel the Iriz is better and above level. It's nearly same Camry or Accord :-)

Paul Tan has been aggressively promoting / reviewing / marketing this car since months ago. However, I haven't seen many on the road, perhaps the production line delays. I have tested the premium 1.6 model, besides the engine room insulation and the brake issue, the rest seems improved a lot.

Dunia Tanpa Sempadan can tell me why ?, only i know one thing.. myvi lack of safety.. better u buy honda or toyota..more comfortable..dual same price with good resale value of any country...
Iriz engine VVT same vioz and gearbox CVT same Honda HRV, Iriz premium specs price much lower than Honda jazz or City top specs. :-)

Its the overall quality. only by hearing how a car sounds when closing the door does not summarize the build quality of the car as a whole. but yes, better sounds does instil confidence & satisfaction
It's because of the 4G LTE Celcom WiFi. At 1:50 you can see he's picking up the USB from door storage unit, think before you speak.
Mohd. Radzli Rahman Actually it does, listen to how a bmw 7 series or s class door shuts compared to how a Camry door shuts you can hear the difference. It means better sound insulation and also a difference in the panel gaps. But it is not the deciding factor in whether or not to buy a car of course.

i test drived the 1.6 premium last week and my only complaints are these... other than that, i love the iriz
A. Gearbox a bit sluggish
B. Aircon knobs looks n feels cheap, shouldve been better quality.

the gearbox sluggishness probably because of the cvt this car use. but after getting to certain speed its very good.
Zulazfar Razin Abu Bakar true, but the gearbox shouldnt be decent only at certain speeds.... I hope proton will sort this out in future models. Still buying the iriz tho heheh

Good review but predictable. When have you ever heard a gearhead recommend a slushbox/CVT over a manual? Most regular folks won't care.
Agreed.. Unless you are talking about the ZF 8 speed used in BMW and Bentley, then maybe it can be recommended.. Though, the engine seems to be a little sluggish at kickdown... Not blaming the gearbox for it.. Maybe Proton engineers should programme it to stick to a lower ratio to keep the engine in its power band and not at 5k rpm...
I have to agree with you the gear box is not working good,beacuse we take it for a spin and we feel the gear box is a bit to lifeless.

10-13km/l is low for modern car these days. No digital speedometer is a let down. Those usb ports are not going to attract any buyers. After watching this video, not sure what's the new selling point.
thats mostly because you are not 'listening', how about six airbags and esp??? its this convince enough at the price range given.

Avinash Arasu Well I do agree with cheaper car but let support national car either proton or perodua.. because if you think on point of economy its bad if most Malaysian buy imported cars. Billion of our money will siphon from this country to other countries. Thus not generating our own economy, beside car only purpose is to go from point A to point B. other than than just overcompensate something else..
Any idea of the fuel consumptions on this car? Paul Tan made video between Proton Iriz and Perodua Myvi, and Myvi is much more fuel saving. But as I know, real road experiences is abit different compare to paper. Anyone knows the mileage per litre?

Proton's CVT gear really sucks, I hate it.
Well, I think Gregory is an entertaining writer, his reviews are great and his opinions are well aligned with the public opinion. But the review lacks continuity and flow, as well as a presenter's charisma.
Something Mat Watson, Alex Goy or Chris Harris has, and something some of the Autocar guys don't have. He's so much better than the other three in Driven though.

Proton do what also wrong. At least they are trying do make something out of themselves. Yes, because of proton, there's insanely high excise duty tax on all import cars. Whining about proton's existence is not going to get the current government to abolish the excise tax. Even if proton kicks the bucket, there will still be excise tax, like it or not. So why not just accepts proton as another car manufacturer although all odds are stacked against all import manufacturer.
That being said, proton is trying to increase their vehicle safety rating to attract new buyers. NCAP is something that you can use to gauge the vehicle performance. their maximum stars is not something that you can bribe your way through or something. there's a hard line stating the requirements for you to meet before you can actually get that maximum stars.

But it seems that Malaysians are more interested which vehicle can reach top speed faster rather than what happens to them when their vehicle hits a cow while driving on interstate roads.
If i have the money, i would go with a nissan over any other cars. But when you have a limited amount of money at hand and only a single life, that gets you thinking.
Tl;dr : Iriz NCAP rating > Myvi.
