    My car doesn’t have a problem with free play steering like this unit. Seems like Proton still having with inconsistent QC issue. I had experience built quality as my RH Roof Molding was not well attached to the car. I already get replacement via warranty. Proton can come out with a good product, but still they can’t get rid of QC problems. Btw, I did enjoy watching your car review video. 👍🏻👍🏻

    So detailed review. Truly a review. Thanks. I drive bmws and am tired of how heavy and non hoonable they are compared to a cheaper daily ( always worried to take care of any issues).
    But I miss the iriz. It's light, it was fun. And when I drove the new myvi I felt disconnected from the road. They myvi is a better car for 90 percent of daily drivers but I'm going iriz because it's a better base for tuning and engine swap hopefully later.

      I never reject the idea of reviewing a national car. Just that they didn't quite like it when both of them were celebrating the Bezza and Persona's arrival like Jesus reborn or something back then and I was quite vocal about their ridiculous over-celebration of what are actually econoboxes while Hyundai and Kia progressed to making 7-series challengers.

      True that. If Honda City/Jazz/Vios were to sell at the same price range as our myvi/iriz/persona, honestly, i dont think our national will even have any ground to stand against them.

      Exactly. In fact, based on number of cars sold per year vs factory, man power, supplier costs, I wouldn't be surprised that Proton's per car costs more than Toyota's Camry to produce. In fact, if Perodua is an independent company, making a car like Myvi and attempting to sell it at market price would meant that Perodua will not be profitable as well. Both our car makers have unrealistic production numbers that are impossible to sustain if they are independent. To be a profitable car maker in a market that competes with big brands and to be able to make cars that fulfil emission standards across the globe and to have a healthy service network etc, 250,000 cars for mass market car brands is a must to hit - bare minimum.

    Hey Bobby, great review. I'm an owner of pre-facelift Iriz Executive 1.6 myself. Someone asked me yesterday if I regretted buying the car, can't say I do, but can't say I'm super happy with it. Some hit and miss with the car.
    The pros :
    1) Superb suspension and handling for this segment
    2) Very nice seats (ya and the rear is full length bench, which I like)
    3) Decent NVH
    The cons:
    1) Finishing quality (The horrendous aircond dials...terrible)
    2) Build quality (dashboard rattling noise 6 months into owning, and no solution from Proton yet)
    3) Really lembap drivetrain (I heard it was improved in the version you drove)
    4) Non user friendly radio head unit & terrible sound quality (my song loudness goes up when there's no bass, and down when bass kicks in...)
    But all in all, the car is quite fun to drive. Btw, the centre rear seatbelt is retractable and be kept on the roof if not needed. I find that ok.

      Hi I owned a 2015 Iriz. You can fix the dashboard rattling by sending your car to proton SC and request for IP kit installation. They will usually require you to leave the car for about 3 days but in my case the installation was done by the end of the day that I sent my car. The rattling sound is gone now!

    Agreed on how the door cards were designed. I wish Iriz gets the same level of equipment as the new Persona, this new refined version actually has some features removed like the auto windows for the driver. and no power folding mirrors, and no auto headlights. And 1.6 no more manual :(

      That's why the Persona sells better, not to mention the huge boot space. A facelift is planned for the Persona next year and hopefully they'll add in more features.

    Major different between iriz and myvi are iriz have better and strong chasis-body because of Hpf, many testimonies of survivor from car crashes

    If I'm not mistaken the 2014 pre facelift full leather seats are from Johnson Controls as I remember the sticker when removing out the plastics. Not sure whether it's the same for this Martini design.

    There are no more lap belt allowed for middle seat. Must be 3 points seat belt. Hence, the position at the roof. Otherwise, it would only be a 4 seater instead of 5. NCAP requirement?

    I think that steering freeplay isn't normal. Not sure if my comparison if right or not, but I'm driving the new Persona, which shares the same platform and drivetrain, and my steering doesn't have such freeplay.

    That door hinge noise isn't really a big deal, though the vanity mirror falling out doesn't bode well for their pursue of better quality. I'm sure it's only a one off problem but still....

    For long distance i prefer to drive the IRIZ at least its much more stable and doesn't feel melayang like a Myvi

      Amer asyraf Sheikh amer Yes, that's true bcoz i did drive the Iriz from Shah Alam to Machang via LPT2 and the total travel time is 12 hours (balik kampung raya). The Iriz was really comfort & stable with good ride & handling. Good job Proton.

    hello a question, can you actually make/tuned a cvt transmission to be more quiet generally for all cvt gb (especially punch cvt) or each cvt has their own "characteristic sound"? or the only way to make the whole car quieter is by lets say more insulator, soundproof foam etc and as for proton they did a 3 point engine mounting and probably more insulator.. would like to know the answer thanks!

    Design ergonomics is something Proton can ultimately do better, especially with the positioning of the AV screen, the door handle angles etc. Practicality wise, Iriz loses a lot to the Myvi, and until Proton rectifies this, it's always going to an uphill climb to reach Myvi's sales numbers. Agree that the Iriz can be made a bit more spacious to cater for the usual Malaysian and even South East Asian family requirements. Well, let's hope Proton's future is better under Geely. Anyway, hope you do more local car reviews in the future - thanks Bobby.

    Ive rent a iriz before for 1 month because i was accident before.. i must said, iriz indeed was a good car but i felt quite the plastic in steering doesn't fit well, and the seat and dashboard quite in weird position.. no offense, im quite short person, about 162cm , i guess someone over 167 will be comfort enough

Which was one of the best bang for buck car out there when compared to what was offered at that time with Honda/Toyota , interested to hear your insights about the car.

      Wheels weekly was in 2008. TH-cam was 2 years old that time. Facebook doesnt exist in malaysia yet. Nokia was holding 70% world mobile phone market share. Apple just launched iphone without 3G connection. And everyone buys Personal computers.

    It depends on what you like perhaps. As much as the MyVi is good i absolutely hated the way it drove. And the driving position plus the seats. I have back issues, hence the MyVi will still not be my choice. Personal preference in the end.

    My new persona steering also have this weird feeling. If u know car, u will know it feeling no good. Previously i drive wira, old myvi and now city, all of this car steering no this weird feeling.

      Yes. I will. I will buy a Fiesta over a Prius C too. Solely because of how they drive. The Myvi is about 5 million times better built and spacious and handsome. But the Iriz's handling appeals to me. I would say anyone who wanted a Jazz can go Myvi. It's 95% there. The Iriz isnt as practical but a real hoon to drive.

      Charles Tang Iriz has better handling, firmer suspension. The rest are pretty much the same since they share the same platform

      jeremy there is an update to the cvt ecu the throttle response of prefacelifted Iriz should be almost identical to the new iriz minus the soundproofing. I own a 2015 Iriz btw

      From my experience owning a 2015 iriz and have test driven both facelifted Iriz and new Myvi, here's my honest verdict :
      Cabin design/quality:Myvi
      Interior space/practicality:Myvi
      Fuel consumption :Myvi
      Safety: Both (5 stars Ancap)
      Features: Myvi(ASA, touch n go reader)
      Powertrain: Myvi
      NVH:Iriz
      Handling:Iriz
      High speed stability :Iriz
      Acceleration/Power delivery: Iriz
      Overall, if you enjoy/like driving, go with Iriz. If Fuel consumption is of your greatest concern, just get the Myvi

    I really hate protons gearbox. You have to put a bit of energy to change gears. My dads old toyota corolla feels really good when changing gears.

      sebastian primus Aisin gearbox is the best. That y today volvo used it in their new model. Less maintenance but of course we cant compare to proton cause alot of politics inside ☺

    My sister bought the Iriz when it was new.It is a nice car quite comfy n what not but in terms of quality control really bad.Within a year the transmission refused to engage n sent back for warranty leaks from the roof 3x n still unresolved. SC not really helpful.However our Preve Turbo is quite nice n problem free since 2014 with the exception of a noisy cvt whine at high speed .

    suprisingly Bobby don't complain/comment on the left hand side signal stick.... there are saga flx and myvi first gen at my home...
    feels quite weird tho, sometimes drive myvi too long then switch to saga will turn on the wiper stick at right hand side haha
    anyway hope to see more of review soon~

      hi guys, to be honest the car so far i get to drive are Saga BLM, FLX and Myvi only...
      you might have a point where he used to it haha ..
      just curious why Proton want to put the signal stick in left handside , different with myvi

      I heard a speculation a while back, after buying lotus, proton wanted to emulate the conti makes, but of course........
      Proton is not the only asian car maker to put the stalk on the left btw, Kia also have theirs on the left, but granted Kia is selling quite well in Europe

    i will buy iriz compare to new myvi. iriz has better passive and active safety then new myvi. i will never recommend new myvi. but the best car under 50k is new KIA PICANTO

    A simple fixture like vanity mirror can fall off so easily, I shudder to even think of those parts from the engine compartment....

      The powertrain is fairly reliable in the Iriz, unlike the CFE turbo so I won't worry about it too much. And besides, there was a photo on FB where a brand new first batch Myvi had the USB charge port broken off after only a couple uses. So really, this is just a freak occurrence rather than a widespread concern.
