    I have never seen anyone cut strips from mid fabric to the edge. Using the large square ruler to do this makes so much sense. Thank you very much for showing this.

      That's right! I couldn't remember who asked for it, or on which video! But now that I see Tina in your profile picture (LOVE Bob's Burgers!), I remember it was you! I am so glad I was able to explain it okay. My brain does things like that too and I really have to see people demonstrate it so I can better understand. And sometimes I have to watch it several times. Or way more than several times. 😂😂😂

If you sew and you want to make your own you can find the pattern here: www.byannie.com/project-bags Sorry that I'm not able to help with that, Annie might have some issues with it...LOL!!!

    You could take and left your table by using 2by4s .just cut them to the size of the feet of the table you are using.beautiful cloth

    I had gotten a lot of fabric years ago (like 10 or 11 years) that I was going to use for a couple of quilts - a sunflower and cow print for a friend and Superman and red and blue for an ex (Superman was his favorite - he even had a tattoo). The quilts weren't going to be anything fancy or spectacular, but I never got around to making them. My friend decided she didn't really want a quilt afterall and the ex is an ex (he never knew I was going to make him a quilt). I'm still sort of interested in making them, but not really sure now. But your tutorial will be very useful if I ever do decide to make them. I didn't know about how to make sure the fabric was straight, I've really only ever sewed 18" doll dresses (though a lot of those over the years).
    Thanks for posting this it was really interesting and will be helpful should I decide to try to make a quilt. And yes, I'd love to see how you'd make a quilt with the fabric you cut and the pre-cut fabric.

      I think I will do a small series on quilting then. I am sure there are lots of tutorials out there on youtube too, so at least if I don't cover it right, someone else will!

    Hi, so you line up your ruler with the fabric fold, and on (your) left, you cut to get a straight line. On that side, you use the line on the mat, correct? Now, as you cut strips, as long as you are using your straight left-hand line cut of fabric to line up the ruler, do you continue to line up the fold at the bottom with the line of the ruler? If it's already straight and lined up, and the left side is straight, so that you begin with a 90 degree angle, couldn't you just ignore the bottom fold as long as you are lining up the ruler with the left-side perfect cut? (until you have to adjust)

    • @StitchALLTheThings
      @StitchALLTheThings  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't remember this video exactly, or what I said I do, but I rarely every use the cutting mat for lining things up. Just the ruler along the bottom of the fabric to cut that first edge off (I make sure that I cut it so it evens up all of the fabric on that side). Then I do continue to use the bottom of the ruler to line up along the folded edge as I keep making the cuts. Mainly because sometimes I may make little shifts as I'm cutting and those add up over time. So if I line up the side of the ruler and my bottom line is still sitting straight, I know my cuts are all going to be straight. Sometimes I have to recut the edge when I've accidentally shifted my ruler. I don't think it's a necessary step that other people have to do, it is just something I continue to do when cutting.

    Hi I’m a beginner for patch work and I’m learning from tutorials on you tube .I buy some pieces of material to try on measuring 50 by 70 cms which they have only one selvage.Do I have to make the same proceeder to cut pieces cause sometimes although I check twice that I have cut the accurate measure then when I start machining the two strips together I find that one will come a bit longer than the other .Please can you tell me what I’m doing wrong ?Thanks looking forward to hear from you

    • @StitchALLTheThings
      @StitchALLTheThings  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Marthese! No, you don't have to fold the fabric to cut it when it's that size. It's harder to get straight cuts when you have a fat quarter sized piece of fabric. It's already been pre-cut, so I would just cut as many squares or pieces out of it as I could. You aren't doing anything wrong at all. Cuts from these pieces of fabric will always be a little different!

    I was just thinking, can't you get a table that can be raised and lowered?

    • @StitchALLTheThings
      @StitchALLTheThings  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's an ikea table that I would love to get that can be raised and lowered! There's just not room for it in there. There's actually not a place for the table I use now, it's on castors so I am constantly rolling it around the (very small) room to keep it out of my way. I'm not quite ready for a room re-do yet, but when I do I am definitely getting a table that can be raised and lowered!! I think that's a genius idea!

    Hi, I’m from the UK, can I ask what a jelly roll is please.

    • @StitchALLTheThings
      @StitchALLTheThings  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nicky Grainger A jelly roll is 2.5" x WOF (42") strips from a collection of fabrics. Moda came up with that name and it ends up being used for all fabric manufacturers who put that size strips of fabrics together from a collection.
