Seeing IMSA at Kansas is crazy.
They should bring it back fr
But remember what SouthPawRacer said in his video about it..

The first couple of years of the ALMS, when they were using rovals, were amazing.
A lot of those rovals were on the EA NASCAR games.
Some of them are on iRacing and that’s the only reason I’ve heard of them before this.
Not exactly. But there fantasy tracks
If I remember right, Charlotte's roval was in one of the EA NASCAR games before the renovation in 2019, or so.
I remember Talladega having a fantasy layout; it was pretty wild but I don't think it was the same as this one sadly
I'm about to give you enough for a part 2.
Homestead-Miami Speedway
Atlanta Motor Speedway
Texas WORLD Speedway
Indianapolis Raceway Park
New Hampshire Motor Speedway
Pikes Peak International Raceway
While we're at it, lets get international!
Rockingham, Corby, England
EuroSpeedway Lausitz (Lausitzring), Germany
Calder Park (The Thunderdome), Australia
The new Hampshire one always fascinates me because I wonder if it'll have better races than the oval
I feel the NHMS's RC is only known for legends car.
@@Kakert420 Look up AMA Superbike there and you'll get a better perspective.
Homestead, Indianapolis, Rockingham and Lausitz are forgotten?
Homestead roval maybe, if it wasn't featured in the last 4 Forza games.
Indy roval hosted F1 and still hosts both Nascar and Indycar.
Rockingham and Lausitz are mostly known for their roval courses, it's the oval that gets forgotten.
I would like to add the Charlotte Roval that IMSA used in 2000 to the list. One of the wost chicanes I've ever seen lol
I always knew Iowa had a roval because when the track first opened there was a blurb about it accompanied by an aerial photo where you could clearly see the infield course in a Racer magazine I had back then, and probably still do somewhere.
Speaking of Homestead, if you haven't seen the Max Papis vs. Jan Magnussen battle from the 2004 Grand-Am Rolex Series spring race (yes there were two GA races there that year) WATCH IT. Stuff got crazy.
Michigan International Speedway had a road course that took it outside the oval. Can-Am races were held on the road course setup.
Indianapolis Raceway Park's short track feature had a hard left, then a 90° right, then a hard left returning to the oval.
Came here to mention IRP, you can actually still see part of the outer course from the grandstands
The USA has some of the most beautiful race tracks in the world but none of these rovals are on that list. ALMS and Grand Am spent had a strange obsession with them instead of real tracks.
You missed:
-Homestead Miami Speedway Roval(which held Grand Am races),
-Eurospeedway Roval,(DTM raced there)
-Brooklands(The first purposed built enclosed auto racing venue)
-Jacarapagua(A Brazilian road course temporarily configured into a trapezoid flat bank oval, CART raced there)
-Racewaypark-Indianapolis(Yes i said that backwards on purpose) (This mini oval has an infield used for road course racing, a young Jeff Gordon once tested a junior Indycar there)
-New Hampshire(Has an exterior roval layout)
-Thunderdrome Australia(A Charlotte Speedway copycat built in australia with a drag strip built outside once held road course races by blending the interior oval and outer drag strip, Sedona speedway in FM4 was inspired by Thunderdrome, but the oval was based on Bristol motor speedway)
On the Eurospeedway you can also count in the definitely not to be raced on super long version that goes outside the trioval and into a 2x bigger "oval" on the outside of the track which just looks like a modern and safe version if the AVUS.
@@duckheadgaming Except Michele Alboreto was killed testing on it.
I live about 10 miles away from Pocono Raceway. I think almost every weekend there’s multiple people using the raceway. A couple times I was there there was people using just the oval with the track cars. drifting on another course and then racing school in the inner road course. There’s almost something going on there every weekend and nothing major, though besides, NASCAR is the only major event and an airshow.
New Hampshire and Homestead also have road courses. Homestead, you can drive the road course in Iracing and Forza Motorsport. New Hampshire has a road course that was used too, but I don't know what series still uses it or not.
Some various small series use the New Hampshire Road Course. No major racing series have raced in it (from what I’m aware)
As for the Homestead Road Course, I see why you brought it up, but…. I know the Road to Indy Series test there and Trans-Am raced there in 2018. It’s…. Debatable to be in a (possible) Part 2 of Forgotten Rovals
@@IanTheMotorsportsMan_YT grand am raced homestead for years
Very insightful video! A few more "lesser known" rovals to add to the list.
Rockingham (both USA and UK)
Pikes Peak International Speedway
Michigan
Indianapolis Raceway Park (both the short track and external road course)
A ton of interesting tracks in Mexico
Calder Park Thunderdome
You could probably make a video about international rovals.
Thanks, I appreciate that!
The British Rockingham is more known for the roval layout than it is for the oval. Conversely, there's a roval layout of the rock?
Yes! It is even on I Racing, Mainly used for track days in real life.
There are some more. Pikes Peak Raceway has a Roval, Milwaukee Mile has a Roval and last but not least Michigan Speedway has also many Roval layouts.
I know this isn't technically a roval, but I would add the Chicagoland Speedway SuperMotocross track they had last year, I was kind of surprised it didn't get talked about more considering how many people (understandably) want to see it back on the schedule. I only found out about it because I was watching a Cubs game & they had an ad for it randomly pop up between pitches
Atlanta and most famously Daytona have also hosted SX races, and Chicagoland was another entry into the list with some motocross elements thrown in.
The Legendary Milwaukee Mile also has a road course in it as well.
Probably the wildest configuration I have seen or heard of for a roval layout was when TORC Offroad visited Dodge City Raceway Park. They run most of the 3/8ths mile dirt oval with added jumps, then proceed to run two straightaways on the inside of the oval, hitting jumps and driving over the small pavement oval they have there, while rejoining the track. I remember hearing about it a while ago and had to hunt for it after seeing this video!
Texas World Speedway was my favorite roval ever. Sad that it's gone now, I wanted to visit it one day.
If anyone played Sports Car GT, you remember Las Vegas Motor Speedway. But it was called "Desert Speedway" in the game.
Great video; I've never actually seen racing on many of these. That Iowa course was crazy
I really appreciate that! I think the Iowa Roval might be the main reason why I decided to make the video :)
This is awesome! I never realized there were rovals on many of these tracks!
2:21 That 1987 #2 Budweiser Can-Am car is just a 1985 March 85C Indycar with fenders. It actually looks sweet. I don't remember ever seeing it race. With the front wing tied to the fenders, I bet it was a safer car to drive than an Indycar.
There were also lots of fictional road courses in NASCAR 2005 Chase for the Cup and NASCAR 06 Total Team Control.
If you do a second part you could add the Atlanta Roval (which hosted IMSA GT back in the day), Michigan (I think it also hosted IMSA), Nashville Superspeedway (alhough to my knowledge that roval never hosted any relevant championships), and the Autódromo Miguel E Abed in Mexico (though that one is quite known as it hosted a Formula E round in 2021)
Bristol technically has a roval. Stadium super trucks ran a course there 2 years ago that basically did u-turns off the track onto pit road and cut across the infield. I'm pretty sure videos are out there.
How in the heck did you not include the American Le Mans Series racing in the Las Vegas Motor Speedway roval from 1999-2000?
From what I’ve researched, I only knew the IMSA GT Championship Series raced there. Looks like I must’ve missed something from a Vegas Roval event. Thanks!
Hell yeah I love (shitty) rovals. Some of my favourite tracks to race Prototypes on on iRacing
If you do part two, you should add Atlanta Motor Speedway
i had no idea some of this were even real and great video keep it up
Thanks!
I want the texas roval ALMS version in a racing sim so bad
Homestead was a big one you missed, Trans Am races there
Part 2 coming soon
WWT Raceway has an infield road.
enjoyed this
Rockingham has a roval. when I took a visit I saw cars running on the roval
Formula drift some what used the taxes road course when they went there
New Hamshire has one too
Whoa. I had no knowledge about these road courses. #SurprisedandAmazed
Homestead-Miami has one as well.
Ah I won my first race ever in betril roos racing school f2000 on the pocono south road course! Dinky little 1 mile course, it is on racing though!
Congratulations!
I wish the Talladega road course was still used.
My dad and I went to both Le Mans races at TMS. Those Audi TT's were bad fast from what I remember at a little kid.
Great vid!
Thank you!
New Hampshire motor speedway has a road course
Pocono has at least 2 road course layout raced on last year but I don't believe they are the lay out you showed. They are smaller and run on the infield mostly. Very minor series.
The infield was a little oval for the Modified Series and their Race of Champions. Not a Roval tho.
Unless you’re referring to another little road course that I’m not aware, or the one in Turn 3
the auto club speedway and the road course aviable in automobilista 2
Good video Ian
Thank you, Erich!
Michigan international speedway has a rc
The Asian tamales on hard buttered bread are coming!!!!!!!
0:46 he said Talladega four times
Also a part two would be cool
Man it’s been a while since I’ve worked on my script for Part 2…
Been working on Racing Stories scripts mainly. Hopefully I’ll get back to that asap!
@@IanTheMotorsportsMan_YT That's awesome
POCONO REFERENCED BABY LETS GOOO BEST TRACK
Calder park
Milwaukee mile
Michigan speedway
Texas world speedway
Walt Disney speedway
Nashville speedway
It is a shame that IMSA races on the Indianapolis roval. It is not an awful track but there are plenty of better rovals.
I honestly despise the Indy Road Course because the races are so boring when it’s hot and sunny.
But IMSA does it best. Especially the Pilot Challenge.
I wish they raced at the Charlotte Roval again, permanently
Iowa road course needs to return
Charlotte has had 3 different layouts
That is indeed correct. But no major racing has ran different layouts. Only the regular Roval even before 2018.
@@IanTheMotorsportsMan_YT world challenge race and grand am raced on the pre 2018 layouts
Im sorry it was imsa in 2000 on the Original layout
@60nascar which was the infield-only track (and a crappy chicane backstretch from the World Challenge Race)
Dude muwakie had one
monza 10km
Pikes Peak?
Part 2 potentially coming soon
I figure that since we cannot have a superspeedway race, at Talladega in IndyCar, why not have a race at the Talladega Road Course?
Side note: I am in 100 percent agreement that Phoenix Raceway should have been left alone....
Did you have some cotton balls in your mouth while making this? Cool video but hard to understand at times
I recently got a new phone yesterday, and that video was completed on New Years Eve when I had my iPhone 10. I recorded with no headphones because my headphone plug from my phone wasn’t working
@@IanTheMotorsportsMan_YT Your video is really well thought out and prepared, maybe just slow down a little bit when you're talking and try to enunciate your words better.
Thanks, I’ll do the best I can do! :)
@@IanTheMotorsportsMan_YT Really like the idea for the video though!
Thank you! :)
Hopefully I’ll make a Part 2 soon!
