welcome back. I managed to find the game from one of the old PC game installers my dad used to own and preserved it with an ISO burner. Only challenge left is to get the game to work, all thanks to your video. 😁 and yeah, this version is dope but the music is great 😂
This is very cool! I was never able to get the DOS version to run at the correct speed so this is the first time seeing the game running properly. Lots of obvious cutbacks from the Jaguar version (missing bosses and phases) though it doesn't have that giant overlay in the way. Music sounds pretty nice too. Thank you for recording this, and if you plan to do them I can't wait to see the FM Towns and PCE CD versions. The final two stages they added to Super Raiden are very difficult. Also, LOL that snipe at 16:06. I would've been salty as hell.
Imagitec developed also the Jaguar and Amiga versions. The assets look similar to the Jaguar version but there are a lot of cutbacks, like missing parallax, no shadows, no bomb animation. I guess it's incomplete?
Oh man I can’t believe I missed this! Oh well. I’ve watched it now. What an interesting port. I don’t think I ever saw it on any PC my friends had. They were always playing this other vertical shmup that was popular at the time. I can’t remember the name. I did enjoy the music, but it seems like it’s missing some of the charm of the Genesis port.
I never knew this existed on DOS. Looks like it was a rush job - many small background details are missing (e.g., the two people running on the bridge at the beginning of Level 1.) Multiple background layers (Level 2) would have taken a little bit of effort but would have been doable. At the very least, they should have been able to render the trees atop the tanks as in the original.
considering in the Dodonpachi Unlimited video you said that will be the only mobile game you played on your channel ,does that mean you wont play the mobile version of this game?
It doesn't mean I won't play mobile games, just they are pretty low on the list. I did have a goal to clear all the different versions of raiden so this would be on the table. To be honest I had no idea a mobile version of raiden existed.
This game always gets stuck loading level 4 on the floppy disk version. I tried to solve the issue with an older version of dosbox (v0 65) but it froze anyway. Too bad cause i wanted to do a playthrough of it while showcasing the MT-32 version of the soundtrack.
It will not work properly in versions of DOS after 6 (this was played on an old PC running real DOS 6.22). I have also played it with the MT32 soundtrack and it is quite good but the issue is you cannot have music and sound effects at the same time unless you run the CD audio version.
@@PEG I know,i read the description. I thought an older version of dosbox would solve the problem. I don't care about not having both music and SFX at the same time, i just wanted to play the game with the MT-32/LAPC1 soundtrack. I wish someone made a patch for this game so it doesn't crash loading level 4 while also adding more lives cause this version is very tough due to having no continues despite being based on the Atari Jaguar version. But oh well,at least there's finally a video like this one showing the rest of this version of Raiden.

I have Super Raiden for PCE CD so it will happen at some point. FM Towns i dunno, that thing costs a fortune now.

Yeah they probably rushed it out before it was finished. Fortunately we got the incredible CD audio OST out of this version.
It's rare to find PC games from the DOS era that had smooth scrolling. First one I remember was Jazz Jackrabbit.
Yup, this game came out right at the very end of the DOS era (1994), so perhaps that's why.

It's not the best port gameplay wise, but the sound track is probably my favorite out of them all.

I remember thinking the game was very visually impressive at the time.
Man I thought this wgame was so fucking cool when I was a kid. I must've thought it was going to be a mortal kombat game when I first booted it up

Ehhhh...it's just a poor emulation from DotEmu's early days. Not worth it.

I feel like the sound effects are too simplistic and not as dynamic and intense as the arcade.

No manual unfortunately, but who cares.
The version I have has some lame copy protection which requires the manual. I guess there are copies floating around online if you need it.
