mrbalshott. My old team partner (Team Guzzini ) was a woman driver and multi open Australia Kart AND Superkart champion, so don't think this is just for us boys. 1983 she won the Australian Superkart Grand Prrix and in 1984 I won it.
I remember John Denton from the early 90's at the British Kart GP's at Silverstone. Names like Martin Hines, Perry Gronstra, Stuart Mead etc too .... great days
I have race 125 laydowns now for 10 years, this is real racing, until you shift gears you have no idea how intense this is. This will prove a real driver!
I raced in this race , managed to get a 6th place . It was my second year in 250E karts and I loved it. The hardest thing was the jump on the Peel cross roads , boy it was sore on your back , no suspension! The peel event was stopped a few years later as someone was killed. A local young lady! I remember her at the Andreas kart circuit each meeting but did not know here personally. How sad.
Wow that was really intense and interesting. I love the announcer's line at 4:32, "The power-to-weight ratio is extraordinary of course in karting, no weight and...oodles of power." ;-)
From Wiki: Powered by a 2-stroke 250 cc engine producing 62 hp for an overall weight including the driver of 205 kilograms, Superkarts have a power/weight ratio of 440 hp/tonne (330 W/kg)(c.5 lbs/hp). Superkarts can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).[8] Their low weight and good downforce make for excellent cornering[9] and braking abilities.[10] A Superkart is capable of braking from 100 mph (160 km/h) to standstill in around 2 seconds, and taking corners at nearly 3 g (30 m/s²). Bloodyhell!
NIGEL MANSEL, DAVID COULTHARD BOTH TRIED THIS AND SAID IT IS THE SCARIEST EXPERIENCE OF THEIR LIFE. THIS IS A REAL MANS SPORT AND NOT FOR THE FAINTHEARTED.
@Wizzes1 i used to race cadet 50cc and later on i did some tkm100 in the uk, i remeber watching these guys at my local circuit and just thinking holy shit thats fast!!! especially when you're arse is only an inch off the ground!!!
these guys must have some steel balls of fire..i mean from superbikes, side cars, and cars i don't see any "safety" stuff...this is just hardcore balls out racing....which is good :)
My favorite part is the cam close to the pedals/feet racing with 150mph through narrow streets, every bump means airtime and I wonder if someone could reconstruct your legs at an impact at 30mph... I raced karts but 125cc max that go maybe up to 90mph max. We had one circuit with bumps like that. It sucks so much and eats parts for brakefast. I'd still try and take one of those to the nordschleife. That would be my way to go out in style. I'd add a front wing...
i just done my first race in tkm at the weekend n i woke up covered in bruises. imagine how bad it would be after your first run out in one of them :P and thats before i even think about doin it round peel haha. its amazing how they learn to take the impact and g fprce pf the corners coz i assume they are just standed fiberglass kart seats?
The beauty of kart racing is that you can be a 7 year old racing 50cc karts or a 70 year old doing 160 mph on a 250cc death machine. It's one of the only forms of racing where anyone can join.
eh i own a kart but the tracks i go to let you go at a max speed of 90mph, and trust me, with no suspension already at that speed you have a lot of corrections to do with the steering. i wonder how it is like when you go 150mph
Roger Goff did race at the IOM GP one year, but didn't finish, Roger was one of the Greats IMO, and a real nice guy & fantastic engine tuner, we were racing pals & both enjoyed a beer together on many occasions lol...He's now working for one of the F1 teams I last heard...
Yes Roger Goff, is a great guy, and extremely quick, certainly one of the very best n fastest drivers in his day, Roger and I drank many beers together lol, normally the night before the final and both got tested in Le mans world championship one year lol
Hi Im a Hobby karter & im thinking on movin on up to the geared 250cc engine but im weary of the engine due to gear changing i've never driven a manual engine before but have know how in in racing lines etc... could u enlighten me with more details of shifter karts
No they would be slower with suspension on them. No suspension is what gives them there incredible steering accuracy. I would probably be more comfortable though .... but comfort comes second to speed. These are pretty quick but we are quite a lot quicker now.
Yes that's true, in 1986 I was invited with 9 other superkart drivers from all over the world including the great Martin Hines, to do a 3 lap demonstration run at the Formula 1 British GP. On our 2nd flying lap we were all individually electronically clocked in excess of 160mph near to the end of Hanger Straight. we were all using Rotax Twin Cylinder 256 90hp motors, (not the little single cylinder 66hp motors that the young pretenders use today lol) & some of us our flying lap times would have out qualified some of the slower F1's on the day! & we were visibly far quicker through the newly establish Luffield Complex than the F1s on the day.

My rival “John Denton” actually passed the chequered flag just in front of me at the very end of the race (please see the closing stages of the race).
Your the man
I remember John Denton from the early 90's at the British Kart GP's at Silverstone.

I had no idea they even had Karting that was this intense. This is probably the coolest racing I've ever seen in my life.

That's the single cylinder machines, the 250 Formula E's are 250 twin, 80+bhp and up to 180mph depending on final drive ratio.
ive an anderson cr250 , not sure i did the right thing buying it now LOL!
cant wait to get it out
+Mark Faulkner These are excellent karts. I will like to drive one of these...
Do those things have any kind of suspension? The camera kinda look like it's a back-breaking expirience.
NIGEL MANSEL, DAVID COULTHARD BOTH TRIED THIS AND SAID IT IS THE SCARIEST EXPERIENCE OF THEIR LIFE. THIS IS A REAL MANS SPORT AND NOT FOR THE FAINTHEARTED.
The race announcer couldn't be any less excited about anything.
@Wizzes1 i used to race cadet 50cc and later on i did some tkm100 in the uk, i remeber watching these guys at my local circuit and just thinking holy shit thats fast!!! especially when you're arse is only an inch off the ground!!!
now thats insane. really amazing driving

damn this is insane. thanks for uploading!
brings back memories
Wow man, you are amazing.. I know that it is obviously built up over time, but man that looks scary as hell.
I have a 1989 zip arrow with a rotax 257 motor. Amazing power, but will kill you if you take your eye off the ball for even a split second!
That commentator is awesome!
i just done my first race in tkm at the weekend n i woke up covered in bruises. imagine how bad it would be after your first run out in one of them :P and thats before i even think about doin it round peel haha. its amazing how they learn to take the impact and g fprce pf the corners coz i assume they are just standed fiberglass kart seats?
100% sick drivers, 100% sick karts, 100% sick video ;-)
that is awesome! your really cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You sir have balls the diameter of a pie!!!

this is sick ! XD but awsome karts, love the spoilers :P
eh i own a kart but the tracks i go to let you go at a max speed of 90mph, and trust me, with no suspension already at that speed you have a lot of corrections to do with the steering. i wonder how it is like when you go
150mph
Do they still race these things? There pretty awesome karts would love to have a go in one
@ThunderkartKing
I would say you have to have more then ONE pair of balls ... Its madness .... this is ISLE of MAN !
my god that must be insane at 45 odd miles per hour!
Wish they still did the peel racing
Back in 1990 people's lives have no value? racing in such bad road circuit, and no crash barrier in a superkart is damn dangerous.
either way. i take my hat for you.
excellent.
do you have any pictures you can share ?
@Wizzes1
True it's a very intense sport!
damn he protected his line no matter what
Hello Alan !!!!
Hi William, hope you keeping well, its been a long time, are you still racing?
Nice ..
you really don't want to crash in those things!
vaya locura!!!como tiran
@manorcraft64 That's what it's all about! Having a good time!
hello mate, just wondering if you knew someone called Roger Goff. think he was on that number 5 kart?? might of finshed 3rd??
Roger Goff did race at the IOM GP one year, but didn't finish, Roger was one of the Greats IMO, and a real nice guy & fantastic engine tuner, we were racing pals & both enjoyed a beer together on many occasions lol...He's now working for one of the F1 teams I last heard...

Btw Roger never finished the race that year, something broken on his kart, luckily for me lol xx
Hi Im a Hobby karter & im thinking on movin on up to the geared 250cc engine but im weary of the engine due to gear changing i've never driven a manual engine before but have know how in in racing lines etc... could u enlighten me with more details of shifter karts
Bit of a random question, but don’t suppose you are the person I met in Perth today ? So wish I’d got your name ,
The Comer engine used for cadets was 60cc
No they would be slower with suspension on them. No suspension is what gives them there incredible steering accuracy. I would probably be more comfortable though .... but comfort comes second to speed. These are pretty quick but we are quite a lot quicker now.
how much hp? where would you race a kart like these in th states
@5959512 A 250cc motor doesn't make 150hp but a really one will make 90hp at the wheels. And thats alot when the kart weights about the same.
@Wizzes1 What were you reading some google articles 0-60 3 second are possible with 150cc....
@wogga8 even 90hp is fucking bananas! how much do these things cost???
i'm going on 9 years lol
noce karts!!!
Kartrider 2004 formula e
so whats it like in one of these?
Galen Nazareno
Like a ride on a bullet.
Hi got anymore IOM vids !?
Hi Adam sorry for very late reply (only 8 years or so lol), sorry m8 I dont have anymore vids, please say hi to your Dad for me please.
@G0dF0ther my 1500cc car makes 105 hp, how would a 250cc engine make 150hp?
2 strokes rule
@5959512 they dont race them in the states as far as i know. and hp i have no idea probly like 100-150.
these karts need a suspention mi ass would killing me after the race but id still do it for the adrenaline of getting 3 inches close to the wall
@5959512 About 15k for a quick twin engine and 5k for a chassis
Hi Alan , no facebook account sorry , just Tube account at
jpwilliam batmalle .
Best Regards W .
@Sleepinglion22 and it hurts when you crash as well :P
If one would hit a curb at like 100 mph or something, wouldn't that means instant death?
2020 anyone
however, how the top speed that kart
I hear these karts can reach at least 160 mph
Yes that's true, in 1986 I was invited with 9 other superkart drivers from all over the world including the great Martin Hines, to do a 3 lap demonstration run at the Formula 1 British GP. Alan Pritchard that’s absolutely amazing. You must have so many amazing stories.
im gonna move to IOM
Wohl das "Härteste" Kartrennen der welt?
F1 guys should be evaluated for Formula E, they'd be noobs compared to these guys!
uhh... that's 130 MPH dude. 130 km/k is really not that fast, you would do that on the motorway. Even sprint karts are capable of 130 km/h.
@5959512 Well I guess that your car doesnt make 18000 RPM ;-)
Why would anyone want to be Hamilton ( an average driver)?
Not the smoothest surface ever.
Hvc 5
a bit of plastic is not going to save you at 100 mp/h.
yep, and about 100 times more dangerous.
Just toss a Yamaha banshee 350 twin in a ordinary kart and see what it does
this has to be the most dangerous form of racing ive ever seen... moto gp is safer than this.
