The main issue for me is the limited torp salvo weight. You can only launch 6 torps at a time, taking 20 odd seconds to turn to launch the other side - the enemy has already turned after the first set. It is also a really slow DD which means if you are being chased you struggle to torp because it makes you so slow that almost all BBs can run you down. Would be a truly terrible ranked DD. Slow and eaten alive by other DDs. Everyone runs RPF (gold) so enemy DDs know exactly where you are and will be positioning to minimise risk of being torped. Cassard is a really easy mark for the most commonly played DD, Shima is fast and stealthy and will just slowly chase you away and out of the game.
I recently unlocked it and my guess is that the skill floor for the ship is pretty high. You need to play it really aggressively but you have slow speed, no AA and no smoke. If you fire torps at long range you are just a gimped halland. I have to say i prefer the halland because of the AA and the awesome consistency of the torps. Cassard at long ranges just do the same damage than halland with more reload.
Hey brother. I just came back to the game after a couple years hiatus and your content is great. I’m a 60% WR player who, like you, has loved DDs since day 1. Trying to learn about all the different lines that have come out is crazy. Also trying to to figure out where to spend my DD grind time! So thank you for all this content. It’s so helpful.
I absolutely love Cassard. Took me (embarrassingly) too long to realise it does more torp damage at closer range. But knowing that, i've done some great yolo run's with it on solo BB's.
Rippr, thanks for the nice video. Cassard is not boring, you just need to risk more and get closer. Do not be scared the ship has French saturation. Once a section of the boat got hit and turns to a gray , black colour it collects no more damage. I you turn away from the enemy and show the nice 4barrel back the might hit you, but will hardly brush off HP from you when they keep hitting the tail. So do not finish a Cassard game full HP, you missed the fun part. I saw so many enemy players getting annoyed about it. The run after you in despair.
Guns ale almost like Marceau but has 50 less demage on HE and much lower drag coefficient. Meaning they don't lose speed as much as Marceau guns. So you flight time of shells is much better than Marceau.
I like the concept of those torps and played it for a while.. What stopped me was a few things - all making it difficult to get close for those torps: - Bad AA and no smoke. CV's don't actively avoid you like, say a Halland. Makes it VERY risky to play in CV games - Poor stealth and no smoke.. I mean it's not bad, but its usually worse than you opposing DD - and the lack of smoke makes it very difficult to disengage quickly (while they usually can while also being effective with long-range torps) - Massive reliance on speed boost - which has limited uptime.. If either of the above two points are true (or there is radar you havn't found yet) - which is practically every game, you have to rely on speed. So you end up engaging, running, then hanging back and waiting for your cooldown. Gets a bit boring, tbh.
Ive had ok games in it Im personally thinking about putting a different capt and trying a gun build but idk how well itll work the gun velocity isnt good
Maybe because the ship have no smoke? But I have played the ship and I played Pan Asian DD with Radar and I can confirm that sometimes ditching the smoke make the gameplay much much faster. Also Cassard is very good in my opinion. The fact that you can wipe out everything in this game with 6 torpedoes close range make this line more fun to play Yolo than even Yolo Emilio herself.
From all the CC's I watch, very very few even like Torpedo DD's. Unless they also have gunslinger shooting ability that is. For some reason everyone wants to be a gunslinger. Personally, I'd rather be the stealth ninja dropping torps into unsuspecting BB's and CA's.
I loved the line until T8 where you are up tiered all the time and it’s super hard to play. All the guys I watched before the line was launched said it will be a high skill ceiling ship.

I think you answered the question as to why no one plays this ship in the first 2 minutes.. Quirky torps that do less damage the further they travel.. Could you imagine a BB player's damage being penalized for taking a sniper shot across the map?
No its not that. Its very good ship but very few people have it researched and bought. Most people play just Shima, Gearing, Halland and some of the coal DDs.
For a Supership, it’s an automatic 360K service credit fee just to play in randoms. That’s stupid and if you want to sit in the back knowing you’re going to lose credits, then…..well you’re just stupid. BBs want to sit in the back with their anchors in the water, using their 3 zip code dispersion playing sniper at 25KM lol.

What is that "potantial radar" mod?
The base speed is to low for me. When radar-ed, air spotted or hydro-ed. To hard to dodge incoming fire or planes for me

I'm working toward the high tiers of this line, but the Tier V and VI are god awful. Folks may quit the line at those ships...

Nobody is playing this DD on EU servers either. I prefer my Gearing for torping so tbh I don't see any reason in going up this line
