Eli kills the character voices and Cesar dressed as a Disney Newsie. The bone that Laynes had in his nose I'm surprised it wasn't his famous carrot.
This song was so suited to J's voice and he pulled off the attitude brilliantly. Eli and Cesar holding the middle and storyline perfectly. That background harmony is NOT easy to keep up with when things switch up that fast. Layne and the percussion (loved the bone in the nose) and then Layne and Geoff together for the finale. Holy bass/beat drop Batman!! I had to remind myself it wasn't actual drums and a bank of sub woofers. WOW! I made a bet that Geoff would be some nonhuman color this year, but I'm not even mad I lost. LOL I watched the movie today with my grandson and this is very close to it, right down to the dance moves. The only major difference is Geoff and Layne--their characters were black shadows with no speaking lines but I love they way they did it here. It fits perfectly.
I'm so glad you enjoyed this I think it's brilliant. Yes Geoff's bass and Layne's drums always ridiculously good. I hope whenever J gets shore leave he manages to get a VP song in. Everyone on top form as usual and Layne's great arrangement.
You should do their cover of Phantom of the Opera is an old one but it's very theatrical, this one is when Tony was in the group (he's the baritone that went before J.None, that now has the production company with Layne, where this was recorded) He's also credited as director with Layne in this one.

J None really did a great job and when he first spoke, I swear I heard Eddie Murphy. I agree, Cesar turned out to have acting chops. Eli really got into character too as did Geoff - "The cards. The cards." I wanted another 5 minutes of this! Layne's arrangement and beatboxing were great - not to forget is 'Screamin' Jay Hawkins nose bone!

They filmed it at Pattycake Productions, Layne (and Tony)'s video production studio; having access to Pattycake it a big part of why they can do what they do, I think, as well as the fact that they all bring something to the table, be it video direction, video editing, or Eli's lighting and work with Unreal Engine to create backgrounds in My Mother Told Me. Since you mentioned working your way through VoicePlay's back catalog, I wanted to put you onto a track that is often overlooked because it's on a different channel than theirs. They did a collab with Kurt Hugo Schneider on his channel, a Twenty One Pilots mashup which is short, but outstanding. It's an older piece, after Tony Wakim had left the group and before J. None had joined, so it's only Layne, Geoff, Eli and Earl. Both the video concept and the execution of the piece is super cool, and if you had ever wondered what VoicePlay might sound like if a DJ got hold of them...

They always put their own little twist in every song they do. That way they can make it their own.
