    Back in the 80's my folks neighbor had A 555. He was A general contractor and worked her hard. Never had A problem as far as I know. The neighborhood was sad to see him go as he cleared not only the driveways for free but A half mile of road out to the main highway every time it snowed.
    I expect you will become very popular with your neighbors soon! I did when I brought home my Case 1845 C skid loader!! Good luck!!

    Those are great machines. My grandpa was a logger and in the spring before he could get in the mountains he would do backhoe work. Anyways, I ran those backhoes lots back then. They are really good machines. And much much better than a case 580.

      Thanks! Injector pump needs a rebuild. It leaks like a sieve! but other than that she runs strong!

  • @operatingengineer520

    I put many hours on a 655D. Good ole machine, finally sold it with 6,900 hours on it. Love that back bucket, the length on it was nice digging around pipe. Could really get cored out under things with that length. Could install it backwards to dig under pipe/foundations. Just time and technology made us upgrade. Run that throttle on high, controls are more responsive.

    Go easy on the extendahoe - its the longest one out there. When the internal cylinder or hose goes, you have a real fun repair on your hands.

    • @RRaucina
      @RRaucina 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, its a great hoe, but I try and dig 98% without any extension. Mainly use it to drag stuff into range. The only other thing is the brakes are inside the rear end, and I hear its big $$$ to repair them. I try and use the tranny and bucket to stop or reverse. I am at 8000 hours and they still seem good.

    If you're use to 3 or 4 lever controller valves, it's hard to get use to 2 sticks. Even hoes with 2 sticks often have the sticks operating differently than other 2 stick machines. It takes time...

    Just bought a old 5550 D Ford backhoe not running, bad injector pump. Everything seems tight on her, hopefully pump will get back next week and I will know what I got. I am no professional either but have run them off and on over the years.I would like to fix it and maybe sell it and buy a mini excavator which I think would be handler around the farm. Your 555 sounds great and after some hour you will become a lot better running it.

    You got a good rig! I have a 710d john deere, 22,000 pound monster with a turbo 6 cyl. My Ford 655c 4cyl. non turbo can out dig, outwork and outlive it any day. The JD 710 is a death trap because the outriggers are about a foot shorter than the Ford, or as they should be. The boom is so big and heavy, that a fast swing to one side with a bucket of dirt stands you up on one outrigger. or a little more and then on its side. Most of the Case and JD guys think this is a "farm tractor'. I am glad they are so ignorant because the price of these Fords is so low on the auction market. The JD boom is so massive that you can't see what in hell you are digging. 555 c through e and 655 ditto are some of the best ever made. They moved production from Belgium to Italy sometime after that, and they are really a CN or Case unit now. Don't know how they compare... JD 310 is a great rig, but if you are on a JD 710, bring your life insurance policy. Got a case guy on my 655c and first thing he said was, wow, what outriggers. After a few minutes operating, he was shocked by its power.

    I have a 555a and it does pretty good for a two-wheel-drive 3 cylinder diesel most problem's I've had is from blowing hoses because may were from 1984 which is my model so far I've only had the injector pump built and I do have power steering and some other leaks but it runs and does the job the only thing is if you blow any hose except power steering you better shut it down or you will pump all your hydraulic oil out and can damage the pump the other drawback like any equipment is if your on side of a hill because you have to keep eye on rear bucket swing location or you can turn it over very quickly I usually try to leave a leg down about a few inches off the ground but you have to remember this as your moving or can hang it on a tree or other things turning you sideways or flipping you

    Nice backhoe, the 4wd is essential for any digger, I think.
    It's interesting ( being from Ireland/Europe) to see the centre mount back actor and the outriggers.
    These are almost never found here, everything has side shift and what we would call "jacks".
    Never drove a Ford digger, had Masseys and now have JCB 3cx's.
    This is a typical European spec. 555 digger.
