- Welcome back to my Breath of Fire Binge! I’ve now played through the entire series, so it’s time for a Know the Facts video for Dragon Quarter.
Today, we’re going to look at all of the facts, trivia, secrets and easter eggs that you probably didn’t know about the black sheep of the series; Breath of Fire 5.

There is a dialogue box that is supposed to happen when you meet Odjn for the first time but the game is not flagged to show it. "Distant thought it maybe, it is your fate. But death is only the prelude to renewal. Your life will be my fire and my fire your strength. Choose when to meet your gate and find a new life with me. I am Odjn" Then the dialogue with Bosch saying "What's that !?" when looking at Odjn is where the game carries on
They're justifying Restart. How'd you find this out? Very interesting.
It's always a breath of fresh air to see some new Dragon Quarter content. Thank you for this!

This game can be very brutal for people who don't abuse the SOL system and the dragon system.
This game so hard. If only they add more save tokens, that can be acquired not in normal way, maybe in the form side quest.
Hmmm ? Love for BoF DQ ? I thought I was the only one left alive that rates the game as one of my all time favourites (and I still like the old games esp III )
Despite everything, I still love Breath of Fire 2. Ryu x Katt are my favorite couples!

I never beat this game and I've tried many times....now that I know this glitch I might have a chance. Thanks for the upload and thank you for representing this amazing series to its entirety.
I knew all of these minus the tidbit about the employee who passed away. Here is a fun fact for you: The idea was played with for Odjn to be a small pet like companion who would be on your shoulder. Odjn would have looked like the BoF3 pygmy or BoF4 Punk. The idea was scrapped and instead the pet companion was given to Cupid. Rasta kind of looks like a little dragon, doesn't he?
Random statement: I am creating an indie game inspired by bof series and other older rpgs. Dragons will be a focus

I'm playing this game right now and I'm having a blast doing, I can understand most of complains, sad to say that the fans of the olders games kinda helped in the process of killing the series but I think the biggest to blame is Capcom, sure the game did't sell well, but they could try making more Breath of fire in the vein of the originals.
My two biggest complains that I could say about Dragon Quarter are:
- The game is obvious rushed, the fact that higher D ratios don't add anything to the game is probably the most obvious one. Would be awesome to see the surface if you manage to get the d-ratio 1/4.
And the other one is how information is given to you, comparing weapon to see which one is better is clunky, you cant see which room in the colony is which, as a example I wanted to change the Ryu weapon shop to a lab, but accidentally change the skill shop. And other small example that I could elaborate that affect game.
But even with all this I think the game is really good, I probably liked more than IV (is the only one I played). And Dragon Quarter actually bring to the table a unique Rpg, contrary to the other games in the serie that don't stand out a lot from other more traditional series.

@@rudidellama3718 Higher D Ratio's unlock certain doors in the game called D-Ratio Doors. You can get some extra skills and a backpack page for going through them. It is nothing amazing besides main shaft but it is something
@@dynenuitari8930 from what i read online after 1/256 you don't get anything new (apart from the best sword), so earning better ranking is only for the challenge with no story bits as reward, which is a little sad, by the way I finish for the first time the story a couple of hours ago, really enjoy the ending :)
@@rudidellama3718 You get access to the dragon sword at 1/128, for every ration increase after that it goes up by 1. at 1/8 You get the Dragon Blade +9 (27 extra attack). If you play through the game again you will unlock some more cutscenes called SOL cutscenes. When you play through it a 3rd time after beating the game twice you can see the whole story unfold instead of just small bits here and there. It was a nice addition, the game wants you to focus on learning how to play and deal with the game first instead of throwing everything at you at once
I think the higher your D-Ratio, the stronger the Dragon Blade.

This is one of my favorite breath of fire games. I like to think that it's a prequel to all the other breath of fire games. Only because in every other breadth of fire your going deeper into the earth, while in this one your escaping from deep in the earth to the surface.
Technically it is a prequel. BoF4 take place shortly after.

@@Dreydan The obvious fact is technological awareness of people in shelter, what disappeared after people left it. Dragons in DQ actually has numbers as names (in Russian).
@@TheRezro Is that a quote in there because I couldn't make sense of it. What do the names have to do with it?
@@Dreydan Those names are reference to known world. We do known that "magic" in BoF is actually technology, what was mentioned in many places (and also final of BoF3). In such case it wouldn't be farfetched to assume that Dragons in DQ actually were created by Russians.
Dragon quarter really cursed me so bad, because it's genuinely one of the most incredible settings and games ever made, but it's SUCH and obscure game that I feel like no one ever knows about it, meaning we will never see any more of it..
it was too "experimental" for this series and kinda destroyed it... sadly.
it could have been a cool original title on its own tho, as in, not with the BoF label...

Informative! I like Ryu's design at the bottom right as well 2:33. They implemented the names in an interesting way, only knew about the dragons - but didn't know how to pronounce them though -> the singer at the end looks like Yuna from ffx.

Thanks for the video! Pretty cool. And yes, I am one of those people that absolutely loves BoF Dragon Quarter. One of my favorite Jrpgs and a decade + ahead of its time in terms of game design and themes. Brilliant game if you ask me.

Love this game, though I agree it’s rushed. Another fact of the game you didn’t mention is they changed some characters genders in the English translation. Cupid is male in the original Japanese game for example. I wish they’d rerelease the Breath Of Fire series with better translations
I'm a little late to the party, but I have a small note regarding Cupid. There is actually no evidence of any gender change in the English localization. I've played through the game and seen all SOL sequences. He isn't referred to by any pronouns, nor as a girl/woman or boy/man, in any dialogue, nor while using Lin's Profile command on him. The only English source that has ever gendered him is the BradyGames guide, which does refer to him with female pronouns. Given that BradyGames guides were often full of misinformation, it's likely that this can be qualified as just one more piece of it on the pile.

Один, два, четыре. Didn't know about that. U know that the intro is too in Russian. The man say's something like: "это маленькая история", that u can translate to English like: "this is a little story". I'm Russian, and that fact kills me 🤣

its a shame that the next "Breath of Fire" titel had been a game on mobile and just for japan :,))) which didn't survive for long
My fav in that series? Number three, while I still do HOPE that Capcom will redo the first two titles in the styles of 3 and 4.
For number 5 here... Never had an ps2 ^^° so can't say much, just that sadly it didn't poked my interest character design wise.
i think its because the writer is change unlike bof 3 and 4 makoto ikehara is the writer but in bof 5 they change the writer and the director or designer need to adapt with the writer story

The names Odjn, Dover and Chetyre resemble the Russian words for One, Two and Four, respectively. This suggests at least four dragons were created, but I am not aware of any construct named Tri.

Fun Fact: the game is unbeatable if your D-Counter is too high since you have to use D-Breath on the Final-Final boss.
Pretty sure this is wrong, after you beat the final boss (I beat with something like 97%) the rest of the game is script, it doesnt matter how high you D-counter is
@@rudidellama3718 you can hold D-Breath as long as you want and not die?
@@Allplussomeminus I dont remember exactly, but in my second playthrough I tried the dragon fight with different D-counters and that didnt change anything, so thats why I pretty sure is script
The final boss requires d-breath, but his defenses scale with your remaining d-counter. Whatever you have left is always exactly enough. You've won the game if you face Chetyre at all, but Ryu has to sacrifice himself to win.

I'd certainly say so. The game might not be perfect, but it takes alot of risks and based on it's own merits I think it holds up well enough.
This is probably my favorite game of all time. Bof series lovers and people who like easy games hate it. It's pure awesomeness. Also not hard if you save all your dcounter for the end game battles and bosch battle #2.
Kokon horay is enough alone to put this game in the top ten. Also up there is gladius. Check them both out asap!
The fact is that Breath of Fire was an awesome series from 1 to 4.
I hated this stupid game so much. I felt so ripped off when I bought and played it right when it came out after being so excited about the new Breath of Fire Game. This game punishes you for using your dragon form. In a series about changing into different kinds of dragons. Whose stupid idea was that?! I also hate time limits a lot. I also don't like depressing dystopias. I don't know what they were thinking when they decided to call it a Breath of Fire game.
All you really said we're all the reasons it could have been better but wasn't. The save tokens concept was terribly implemented, and the countdown to death because of your dragon was also terrible. It's the only game in the series where being a dragon was bad for the player and that's, in my opinion, why it failed.
I hated this installment so much, and I struggled to embrace it...
