I have a new battery and I’m not getting any lights on dashboard cluster nor ignition so can’t read anything in osb for codes. Brake is hard to press and steering column is locked. Radio turns on light by shifter knob turns on but no control on lowering or putting up windows
i have same problem but lock WONT engage. steering turns fine nothing is locked but i have the same symbol, no crank, and when input my key nothing the steering wheel doesn't unlock since it never engaged
I have the same problem my bmw was driving perfect then it went to steering lock sign we have a new battery the problem been we got it towed to a auto shop that has the worst service every car been sitting for a year I feel like it’s a easy fix like this I don’t know what to do
Hello Mate, I have the same problem. I replaced the battery 6 months ago from firestone. Until last week car was working fine, suddenly the car didn't start when I put my key in, there was some sound when I press ignition key but it didn't turn on. Then after a day or so, the lights were also not coming, the key got locked inside, was unable to pull it. Yesterday, we tried towing to bmw service center and he tried jumping, the lights came on but car didn't start although their was some sound trying to start. Today, bmw saying they need to replace the entire electronic steering column because they say its locked. I told them why don't u unlock it instead of replacing and they say it can't be unlocked but I believe it can Please let me know how you can help, thanks in advance.

Still no mechanic in the area I live in can fix it, tried diff shops it looks like I have to take it ti the dealer but I know they charge over a grand smh

For the elv emulator does the steering wheel have to be unlocked ?
Yes if you put it the car will start but you have to remove it from the lock state

How do you bypass the system ??
There is a bypass on ebay saying ELV bypass orders it and see if you can get some video support it on how to install it
