Welcome to ace attorney. Where the only way to be an ace is to question everything you’ve ever been taught in school because non of it is relevant to becoming a lawyer in this universe
I love how the second trial of the game shows that everyone involved in the court system is hilariously corrupt, the entire legal system is compromised, and then the game just... Goes on
They do acknowledge the corruption!… uh, just like in the 4th kinda and most of the 5th game… so yeah it takes awhile to catch up to itself funnily enough
This game is utterly ridiculous and entertaining to be sure, but one way I suspend a little my disbelief is by getting into the lore that we live in an alternate America in which system wants all criminal cases to be resolved in only 3 days. So a lot of it is sham and kangaroo court, but because of that system which wants to go through criminal cases so fast. It likely would be a similar sham in real life if "okay you have 3 days from the day of the crime to investigate and prove yourself in court. Maybe why they have badges, lawyers are authority figures who can collect and present evidence just like that. EDIT: Actually at the end of the video this is explained again, but you just skipped at full speed and doubt you read it. 🤨
The 3 days thing is because its based off the japanese law system, which allows shit like surprise evidence that the defense doesn't know about, since every case is "guilty until proven innocent."
@@petey5009 This is bullshit. It's the contrary and there's no 3 days stuff at all. However, no matter how innocent you could be, the judge and accusaion will try to make you culprit in making you admit your 'fault". Yet you are innocent until proven guilty like in usa
19:26 "This is a scam!" Well, not quite. It's called having connections. When your entire company is based on blackmail and underhanded intimidation. You're bound to have dirt on the law. And in White's case, he has dirt on EVERYONE.
Funny thing is... I was like 11 the first time I got this game (the second game actually with Edgy gone and I have no idea who he is) and after finishing two cases, I immediately went "I want to become an attorney". Thankfully I didn't want to anymore because of tha last case where our defendant is actually guilty. I couldn't handle my emotion well in that case, so I thought, "yeah, this is too stressful I can't"
This kind of counts as a spoiler, so warning for anyone playing for the first time... The defendant in the last case isn't actually guilty. She was forced by her higher up to stay quiet and take the blame so he wasn't suspected. She was completely innocent and hated what she felt she was being forced to do. But in real life this kind of situation isn't always the case, so it's good that you went through the emotions while you were young before something like this happened in the real court room. Unless you were talking about the second game, which in that case sorry for misunderstanding that 💀
Ace attorney truly is a ridiculous series, which is why I love it so much! It is however worth pointing out that some peculiarities are more to do with the difference between the Japanese legal system (which is an inquisitorial system) and the American system (which is adversarial) - As an example, finishing trials in 3 days is obviously insane, but presenting new evidence in the middle of trial is not unusual at all, in fact evidence gathering in Japan is entirely a judicial matter which the presiding judge has power over, Japan basically has no concept of pre-trial discovery (They also didn't have Juries until the mid-2000s).
@@usedforks What? Of course it does - the American localization of the game changed the location from Japan to an alternate time-line USA where Japanese culture became the norm, but the series originally just takes place in Japan, the localization and marketing teams just didn't want to alienate US audiances.
@@usedforksthe game takes place in Japan… how did you not know that😭 I thought everyone knew this was a Japanese game LMFAO they mention they’re American in the game in the English version because they changed the translation
@@desteny1393 Of course I know the *original* game takes place in Japan. But this isn't the original game. It's the localization, which both of you admitted takes place in the US. I have only the barest understanding of court procedures, but even I can tell Ace Attorney exists in Legal Lala Land. It's going ot be so fun (an enlightening) to watch an actual lawyer play this game.
Yeah, the game is not a representation of how any court system works. I don't know any legal system that lets the witness continually change their testimony over and over again. But, then again, I've never worked as a lawyer.
It's satire of the Japanese court system... Basically over there, the system is so biased against defendants with it's guilty until proven innocent mindset and allowance of shit that would make an American lawyer froth at the mouth (such as surprise evidence being allowed) that it's common knowledge that if you get all the way to court, you're undeniably fucked.
Idk why but it rubbed me the wrong way when he said a few times throughout the video “I wasn’t reading, what do I say?” But when he did say something about what was happening, it was a little bit interesting. Edit: Nvm. Saw that he was skipping almost the entire interaction with Maya… yeah. He doesn’t really seem all that interested in this game.
