    *I'm deaf in my right ear which is why I'm not wearing headphones. I know, it's a bummer not to get the panning sounds. It's also been a bummer to only have one ear my whole life for lots of other reasons, like, playing telephone growing up, I was terrible at it. But, I'll be ok, and I'm getting both channels in the earbud, thanks for your concern :)

    Dollhouse is about a family that appears to be perfect on the outside looking in, yet it's far from it. In Dollhouse, Cry Baby's mother is an alcoholic due to her husband's infidelity, and her brother has been engulfed in the life of drugs, visualized when they portrayed him smoking weed. The daughter, who is named Cry Baby, is the only one that sees the tragedy surrounding her. Her family is visualized as the dolls living inside of a dollhouse that belongs to a little girl. Since the daughter knows the truth about her dysfunctional family, she narrates the song in an attempt to get the girl to see and understand her reality.
    This song has another meaning: how people view celebrities. In an interview, Melanie said, "People put them in glass boxes and think they are perfect and when something happens that shows when they are humans, people don't like that."
    (and yeah it's not about her own family life her family is very supportive and they have a healthy relationship. she just loves story telling she wrote this song from the perspective of ppl who have dysfunctional families)

    Idk why this made me laugh as much as it did.

    • @rileybrown8971
      @rileybrown8971 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Hardly Quinn, probably because I understand sad broken families and tragedy. I have my own broken family. I also have a dark sense of humor because of the tragedies I've lived through due to a family member, the same family member that tore apart my entire family. It's mostly because he compared dark themes of broken families to rap battles. Since rap is a genre of music that typically is superficial (these days) and not really dark (considering most rap songs these days are about superficial things) and doesn't usually carry as much deep emotion... well the comparison was slightly ludicrous and therefore I found it funny. Hope my explanation helps you understand my perspective.

    • @rileybrown8971
      @rileybrown8971 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Hardly Quinn, thanks lol. I don't think I'm strong for saying it really. It's just a fact of ly life at this point and I've been open about it for quite some time. Therapy helps. I agree, some people speak before they even know what they're talking about. The Trisha Paytas drama going on is a prime example of that.
      Regardless, thank you again, and have a good night (or day, depending on where you are in the world).

    She said she like to bring topics up that no one would talk about for example child neglection and a disfuncional family. She doesn’t necessary have a personal contraction with some of the songs but the purpose is to help others that may be going through these themes and in some way say that they are not alone and that people go through the same things. The topics are so diverse that it’s hard not to relate to at least 1 song.

    I like Melanie's music because I'm a teenager still in school, and I see all of the shit that goes on. Even with the Cry Baby Album, I see girls getting plastic surgery, girls fighting over the same boy, boys who hide their true feelings behind a tough exterior, I've boys almost murder their ex's, and I've even been through all of the themes and messages of K-12. I've called out the principal out on they're bullshit, I've have been fun of like a puppet, I've even thrown off friends because I don't want a real friendship with that person, and I'm sure everyone needs a break from the toxic and shitty people in life.
    My point is that a lot of people know what Melanie Martinez is talking about, and it's good for her to talking about such subjects, because this is a generation that needs someone to just say what she is saying.

    The different between Melanie 'sad' and Lana 'sad' is that Melanie's lyrics are very obvious and easy to understand and she sings about life. While Lana's lyrics are not so direct, more poetic and focus on more about love. Which gives her this mysterious Femme Fatale vibe(especially in her Ultraviolenve songs). Plus, Lana paved way for artists to write more openly about their emotions and things that are not happy. She's like the original "sad girl". Nevertheless, both are EXTREMELY talented artists and I love listening to them both. Please react to more Lana Del Rey too! And if you do, please do "Blue Jeans" next!

    So for instance alphabet boy is about Melanie but pity party is about Crybaby

    I always wonder if the Dollhouse music video is based off of the book "among the dolls" which is a story about a haunted dollhouse with a dysfunctional family of dolls who abduct their owner and forced her to live in the dollhouse with them until she finds a way to escape

    Melanie Martinez writes songs to bring light to things people dont really like paying attention to because people love seeing perfect lives, but once something wrong goes on, they look away and bring hate. There's this one song called " million men" its not in this story, but its about human trafficking and theres others talking about dark subjects people ignore in the world

  • @MariaTraversTW
    @MariaTraversTW 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    She’s telling a story throughout all of her songs

  • @jazzroxx98
    @jazzroxx98 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yes, she discusses very deep topics such as neglect and dysfunctional families but with her new K-12 album people were going to see her and you don’t even know how intense those topics are yet you’ll see when you finish Crybaby album, I know I was supposed to go, but with everything happening she’s rescheduling her concert dates and people sing along it’s good I love Melanie because to me she’s not the bubblegum pop singer as others call certain singers, Melanie just isn’t afraid to show how dark topics can have people open up and realize wow

    I know i might be a bit late to explain things but, the girl you see in the videos is Melanie's character Crybaby, everything that happens to Crybaby has happened to Melanie in real life except for in milk and cookies/Tag your it where Crybaby gets kidnapped. That was one thing that didn't happen to Melanie in real life she never got kidnapped. This is a series of emotional events for Melanie and her character Crybaby reflects on her.
    if you see this comment i hoped this help explain a little bit.

    Are people in a good mood when they listen to Melanie Martinez? When I started to listen to her I was going thru some family bs and started to have anxiety and suicidal thoughts... this album made realize I am not the only who's ever felt like that and that everything will not always be perfect as I'd been raised to believe, and that's when I started therapy.

    I see Melanie Martinez? I like the vid and subscribe! ❤️ I like that you are reacting to her videos and yes her songs have a beautiful rhythm and although they are child related the meaning behind is far more deeper, expressing problems all people experience. It's really unique. I believe the world needs more artists like her. The next one is sippy cup! ❤️

    I have seen both Lana Del Rey and Melanie Martinez live and they and the crowds are always high energy. I would categorize them in the same genre. Alternative pop. Fans of both artist have a lot of overlap. Also I'm think melanie made a cover of a lana song. But yeah Lana was the og sadcore, than you got melanie, lorde, marina, etc. Billie eilish is probably the most recent addition to that genre

    Please do the rest of the album in order! The songs tell the story of Cry Baby (Melanie) and how she grows up. It’s is partially inspired by Melanie real life, not necessarily the bad family life but how she was always very emotional and people called her crybaby. And I suggest also watching the K-12 movie once you’re done with this album.

    After the Crybaby album she has another one called K-12. Its goes along with the story of Crybaby’s life. In K-12 she is going to school. And that album also tells a story when watched in order! So please also react to K-12 when you are done with Crybaby!!!

    The main character in this album is Cry Baby which is represented by Melanie Martinez. Her songs are histories that complement each other and where she criticy the society and things that usually people don't think about.
    I hope this helps you a little to understand what is it about and all :3

  • @jimjimcherie
    @jimjimcherie 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It's a concept album! So it's technicaly all fictional but it is inspired by secrets in her neighborhood, tho the recurring rabbits are from something that happened in her childhood that she saw her pet rabbit decapitated after an accident, or something like that. The next video is Sippy Cup, which is one of my favorite songs jsjsj.
    Actually, a lot of the time I need to get into the mood to write or paint, I listen to Melanie Martinez, Taichi Mukai, or BTS. They all both make me sad and happy at the same time.
    Which leads me to my next point, seeing as you are a narrative and lyric junkie, I think you'd enjoy reacting to BTS' "Bangtan Universe", basically, their music videos connect and they've been telling a story since their I NEED U music video (actually since before, but you would only notice until watching the main videos). They have good lyrics, and their fictional universe is amazing, we (the fans) have been trying to decode it for years, we have plenty of theories (yes! you NEED theories for it). If you ever decide to react to them and need an order to react to the videos.. I can help you :)
