The song and the album it's from is about a fictional character. The song isn't actually about her. It's just part of a fictional story she created
I can’t remember if I saw an interview or if it was something else, but she says that this song is about some people of where she used to live and them being like you said, always worried of appearances and trying to show the perfect family to others when the truth is so far away from that.
Also, I love to see your reactions and the way you analyse the lyrics or the videos, it is so good to share these things creating an space of respect.
My favourite of Melanie it’s “Mrs. Potato Head”, you should react to it. Her videos and lyrics always hide important messages that people should talk about more.

Man, I’m a Preacher Kid (TM) so there was a lot of pressure from my father (not the pastor, mum is the pastor) to keep up appearances, everyone in my family is neuro divergent ADHD, bi-polar, a sister is para-schiz so it was like he was trying to hide all that from the congregation. It really messed with my self worth and the idea that I’m not good enough. Mum didn’t GAF though, if her church couldn’t accept us as we were, she’d flip the tax collectors’ tables and teach them the riotous lessons of Jesus Christ until they either didn’t care or demanded her moved to another church lmao. So there was a lot of mixed messages directed toward the kids. PKs either end up perfect drones, or freaks, almost no in between in my experience 😂

Heyyy I just wanted to come here and ask if you would react to Joshua Bassetts Ep called “sad songs in a hotel room” it comes out September 23rd. It’s only 6 songs long. He wanted to release it before his album. I wanted to give a little back story to it bc it’s important. So he just played his first ever 3 live shows and he played every song from the ep except the title track so that it the first song on the ep and the only one we haven’t heard.
2. So to start the song LA he played it early last year for a virtual concert and put that on TH-cam but never officially released it. To keep it vague this song was just written in a time when he was going through a lot yk in every aspect of his life kind of at the beginning of all that drama and just when so much happened. It’s just more about mental health.
2. The song smoke slow was a single released last month (that’s all I’ll say😭)
3. Used to it, this song we hadn’t heard anything about it but he played it at his live shows but let’s not focus too much on that aspect of the song and more so what he was going through in the song.
3. Lifeline, this song he teased in may and played at the live shows. It’s a song to his mom when he was dying in the hospital last January yk all that awful timing and the drama happening while he was dying. But yeah he wrote it for his mom about his hospitalization and honestly it’s HEAVY. I also prefer the live version. It’s so good live.
4. All in due time he also teased on tik tok in may (he also teased smoke slow) but basically this song is about his mental health during last year when things were super rough for him. Now I’m just going to quote a few things he said about the ep☺️

star did not detail the specific inspiration behind each track, although he noted that the songs are "authentic, honest" and something fans haven't seen from him before.
He said some songs were written as far back as two years ago, while others were composed six months ago.
HOWEVER: if you do decide to react to to this ep it’s very important you know full context and everything so to start he did 2 GQ interviews last year one in June and the other in December. In those interviews he talks about several things he was going through that is important to know to know before listening. If you wanted I’d also suggest reacting or at least listening to his Ep from last December called crisis/secret/set me free. The songs touch on the drama with Olivia Rodrigo, their relationship, his SA and his hospitalization. Also he did an interview With Zach sang where he went even more in depth about so many different things. It’s a great watch and I highly recommend. This Ep is going to touch on so many different parts of his life that in order to understand you have to know what’s gone on.
