- The prime minister has said that he believes 'a man is a man and a woman is a woman, that’s just common sense'.
Rishi Sunak made the comments during his Conservative Party conference speech.
Sunak was invoking a long-running debate within politics around transgender rights and policies.

In terms of sex, there can chromosomal anomalies where a female can have any degree of male chromosomes and vice versa. There's also no end of examples of females with male markers that on first glance, would make you think they were male, and of course, vice versa. There's also variations when it comes to the production of testosterone and oestrogen. So 'biological male/female' is a very general term for laymen to use, but in most cases, is correct.
Gender is a neurological construct in that, it's hardwired into the brain during gestation. That is the part that cannot be changed, as demonstrated by the case of David Reimer. The hypothesis is that during gestation, the foetus is flooded with hormones from the opposite gender after the primary sex characteristics have been established, causing the cells in the body, including the brain to express and construct according to that gender and this is why somebody can end up with ambiguous, opposite or even both characteristics, externally and internally.
Trying to assume the opposite gender has never worked and costs lives. Transition is the only treatment proven to work.
The son of a chemist with an expensive education, should know the basics of all of this by osmosis, even if chemistry isn't something he was good at, academically. Even then, his parents know enough to tell him that what he's saying is scientifically wrong.
My respect for him is out of this world

Well as a trans person living in the UK this has made me very nervous. I wonder how he plans to implement transphobic policies? Will I lose the right to choose what to do with my body? Let me explain this:
We live in a very cultured and diverse society where as a social construct, we just have ‘man’ and ‘women’ but for one scientists and doctors have proven there is more than 2 sexes, like other chromosomes, like we have intersex and XXY etc.
Boys are associated with blue for example and it’s very hard for people to un-see that since culture has been dug into our skulls, but at the end of the day, I don’t think it really matters what parts someone has, just who that person wants to be, like gender neutral bathrooms would be a good idea since that’s what we have at home, tbh no one should really care what shitter you’re using but oh well.
He’s also just using gender to earn himself more votes and speak to a specific group of people instead of actually talking about problems this country faces, there’s starving people and people who can’t afford rent, nurses not being payed enough etc.
Sex - Reproductive organs you’re born with
Gender - how you identify to better feel like yourself
Sexual orientation - who you love
Gender expression- how you choose to express yourself through culture, clothes, makeup and more.
