What’s Happened To Newcastle?

  • So we thought we would check out the Empty shopping centre in Eldon Gardens and apparently the most dangerous places in Newcastle. Alone the way we found loads of abandoned buildings n the area and we haven’t even scratched the surface. Are places like the center centre & Arthur’s Hill dangerous? #abandonedbuildings #explore #buildings #abandoned #newcastle #property #wanderingturnip

I used to work on the West Road many years ago and to see the state of the old bowling alley, police station and nurses home is heartbreaking. The nurses home was always fully occupied but with the General Hospital being gradually closed down and demolished the home was handed over to refugees/asylum seekers who wrecked the place. Such a shame.

I've lived in the west end on and off for the last 25 years. So the bowling alley used to be the one that was used for local competitions, even after the big modern out of town places opened up in the 90s). The building after that was the West end Police Station, then Angel Heights was originally nurses accommodation, then was used to house refugees, a lot of whom I'm led to believe didn't get on very well and it got slowly trashed.shame beautiful building. The Hospital on the other side of the road was the general hospital, local A&E etc but is now owned by one of the universities and will get developed in the next few years.

Cracking video again lads, always enjoy your outings.
On Westgate Road, the white building was the police station, Angel Heights was a nurses home. Police station has permission to become flats and shops and nurses home has permission to be flats. Hopefully both starting soon. The hospital is the old Newcastle General. Closed gradually over the last few years but now owned by Newcastle University and they’re about to start redeveloping it for a mix of housing and research/uni buildings. Massive site so will take years to do. Hopefully the area will look a lot different in the next few years.
Can’t see much hope for Gateshead mind. It’s been slowly dying ever since the Metrocentre was built in the 80s. No reason to go there.

It's a shame to see all the places closed, it's not likely to return to what it was. The bowling alley was canny actually though it became the go to place to pick up various drugs.. not that I would know. It's the general hospital that's closed down, the Royal Victoria is futher down towards the city (next to the uni capmpus), another shame to see.
