I'm an American ex-pat living in Newcastle, you got some really good places in, but there is so much more. We are partial to Tynemouth as we live down the road and my son goes to school there (also his school has been a school there longer than the United States has been the United States!). You should time a visit to check out Tynemouth Market, it is more antique and collectables than Quayside but it does also have a good selection of food stalls as well. Whitley Bay is great to get a gelato and walk on the beach up to the lighthouse. I also always suggest the Ouseburn, which is right outside of the city centre and has loads of art studios as well as music venues and good eateries (for kiddos it also has a city farm and independent children's book centre Seven Stories). The Ouseburn is especially great if you can time a visit with either seeing a concert at any of the venues or time your visit to coincide with an open studio or late night show event when many of the artists open up their studios to the public for tours and demonstrations and interactive fun.
I always love to see our city from the perspective of visitors, it makes me feel proud to be from here, and I often find out more about new venues this way
Genuinely love just kicking about the Toon when I visit there from Edinburgh. Down to the Quayside for some food, meandering the streets for pubs. The Geordies are the friendliest folk.
As a born and bred Geordie I’m so pleased you enjoyed your visit to our beloved city 😊 there is so much more to do than people realise and you certainly packed a fair bit in to your weekend, our part of the world is a hidden gem with beautiful sandy beaches, picturesque countryside, good eating and warm friendly people, I’m sure you will enjoy your trip to Beamish open air museum and will be pleasantly surprised as there is way too much for one day, enjoy and thank you for your beautiful video 👍🏻
I've traveled to Newcastle (from USA), 3 times in the last 17 months. Love it! I always take the metro to Tynemouth on the weekend when there too. I haven't been to Jesmond Dene, but I'll be sure to check it out next time (this coming August). Thanks for the tip!
There is a market on the bridge at Jesmond Dene's Armstrong Bridge on the first and third Saturday every month, I believe it is mainly food, but it means you can grab some fresh food to have a picnic by the waterfall. There is a lovely grassy area just to the side of the main waterfall that is really nice for a picnic.
I am a Czech-American ex-pat living in South Shields. You captured beautifully what I love about living in this area. Subscribing rn, Beamish is one of my favourite places and can't wait to see your take on it.
My son and I love Newcastle. It’s so easy to get to via train from Edinburgh. It’s a lovely journey along the coast as well. I recommend the Biscuit Factory. A wonderful arts and crafts museum. It’s in a very cool old warehouse building. Highly recommend.
You should pop down to the Ouseburn on your next visit then; there are loads of independent studios like Mushroom Works, great little pubs that do nice lunches and a city farm to explore as well as Seven Stories. If you time a visit during one of the open studio nights you can go and wander through all the art studios and a lot of the artists do activities.
After watching this video the first question that came up is - Why haven't I heard more about Newcastle, it seems to be such an interesting and colourful city. Added to the list for next years tour of northern England.
It seems to be falling through the cracks when it comes to people's interest 😭 but hey, I enjoyed feeling like I had it all to myself, plus people were genuinely jazzed to see someone come over to enjoy Newcastle as a tourist! (As opposed to, let's say, York >.> No sir I don't want to wait in a line for 2 hours to get into your cute shop!)
The things to do there in Newcastle looks so amazing! The Museum inside is so much like the Natural History Museum here in London, UK which has the same displays of Dinosaurs & others too! I'll definitely put this city on my to list soon!
Got to say this is one of, if not the, best travel vlogs I've seen of my home town! Really showed the city's true character (plus the often overlooked surrounding area). Though I would say that we did give a hell of a lot more to the world than greggs, Ant and Dec and lucozade!
I want to go to Newcastle for the bridges alone...wow! The drone shots through the garden were spectacular (i even ducked my head as it went under the bridge).
The swing bridge (just the other side of the Tyne bridge to the Millennium Bridge shown here) was the world's first bridge that "swings" open. It basically pivots in the middle and swings round so it is facing up and downstream. Sadly the gears seized up a few years ago and they're still trying to find funding to get it fixed, but hopefully they'll have it working again someday soon
Engineering marvels in the bridges, Millennium - worlds first tilting bridge Tyne bridge - worlds first single span Swing bridge - worlds first rotating High level- worlds first dual level and dual purpose Proud to be born and bred in the city when you consider the impact on the world the city and it's residents have had.
Thankyou for visiting our city.....as a born and bred Geordie...And I am named Geordie , I love seeing people visiting our city. You should also have visited St James Park , for any football fans looking to come to away games here. 👍
Once again, another awesome video, Thank you! I’ve been on the fence for a while now about spending a couple days in Newcastle when I come over the pond next, but I think your video just solidified my decision: YES to Newcastle. And the park also stays on my list too. Beautiful 😊 🥰
The Glasshouse International Music Centre - the huge glass building on the Gateshead site of the river - is one of the best venues in Europe and Saltwell Park in Gateshead is amazing.
Excellent video of our great area. It is fairly easy getting from Newcastle /Tynemouth to the South of the Tyne. A19 Tyne Tunnel (toll) by car. Ferry from North Shield to South Shields 9Ferry landing is not too far to walk to from Tynemouth) metro from Newcastle to South Shields 30 mins. Coleman’s Fish Restaurant and Seafood Temple are definitely worth a visit. Places to consider visiting in Newcastle, Biscuit Factory (art gallery and eating place)Fish Quay at North Shields popular area for eating and drinking especially at weekends. Beamish is a worthwhile visit. Once you get out of Newcastle heading north you are spoiled for choice .Market towns and castles galore along a beautiful coastline. Cragside is a great visit as is Wallington Hall( both National Trust).
Found it eventually , Damn internet providers , Spectacular presentation of Newcastle and some of the outlaying areas. Your remark about Jesmond Dene was canny spot on , as whatever time of year and whatever the weather it always has that calming effect . Keep up the Great work , now to watch some more of your vids .
I went a couple of years ago with my dad. He’s from there and I’d never been. I was expecting a dirty northern industrial town. It was not that. It was clean, amazing architecture and friendly people. Love it and can’t wait to go back.
Thank you for painting such a beautiful view of our city. Fantastic video editing and presentation by you. I loved every second i may have to go to some of those eatng places that you tried . you may like to try out Newcastles nightlife. 500 pubs in the city centre its when the locals known as Geordies come alive. Hope you enjoyed your stay in the Toon ( I believe from The Scandanavian word tun or town ) and hope you come back someday to enjoy it even more 😊
Great video. As someone who lives in Gateshead I tire of watching videos on TH-cam from non-Geordies who mis-pronounce place names or show the awful parts of the North East, your video is quite the opposite. You nailed it and it paints our city in a very flattering light, so thank you. I saw your video as an education too because there are alot of things in it that I didn't know, even as a born and bred Geordie. Thank you very much, good work!
You appear to have enjoyed my home town. I really don’t appreciate it enough. Thank you. I live on Ouseburn so I don’t appreciate just how lucky I am. You need to try tiny tiny and the cookhouse, also the art around Ouseburn is great.
LOOOVEED IIITTT!!! ❤ Newcastle upon Tyne, together with Durham, Alnwick, Berwick upon Tweed and sooo many more beautiful places in North East England are on my bucket list since forever! 😍 I’m happy I got to visit York (OMG a dream come true! It’s magical!) and Whitby! Would recommend both to anyone!! Robin Hood’s Bay as well 😍 But THANK YOU Kat and Simon for this AMAZING video! Definitely following your tips (as always!) my next time in Northern England❤️ You rock guys! Ps. All those pastry footage…my goodness🤤🫠
Awwww so glad you enjoyed it, especially as you are already such a North England fan!! I will be posting videos from more spots in the area soon, so keep your eyes peeled! .) Did you have any favourite spots in York? We will be going back there to get some more footage soon! .)
Would have been great to hook up. Newcastle and Tyneside is amazing. You were right next to our stall at quayside market. Can I say you did a good job on this one.
I really enjoy when you do videos about different cities from the UK in general, your format has always that cozy atmosphere and order that I find riveting I look out for in such content. Eager to see what’s next to come (:
Welcome to my City ... Nice to see lovely people like yourself enjoying Newcastle. Lived here for 40-plus years, and it is nice to see a tourist perspective of our 'city with its little quirky eateries. Exploring our history and little local areas like Tynemouth & South Shields, Jesmond Dene is beautiful. Thank you for showcasing our area.
It was great to see you in Newcastle especially because you had nothing but great things to say about it. I'm a native of the north east (County Durham but now live in Worcestershire) so I particularly enjoyed this one. Beautifully shot as always. Looking forward to your further NE adventures.
Nice video, thanks for sharing. I’m from Norway and visited Newcastle last week. It’s a lovely city with many interesting features. I’ve been in Newcastle many times and I keep coming back. Much more to do. If eating out, I do recommend strongly going to Babucho. Also I do love visiting Whitley Bay, a bit further north the coast from Tynemouth.
Hi there! New viewer, just followed you a couple days ago, while searching up info on where I’ll be moving to! The move is still a little bit of a ways out, cause I’ve never moved internationally, or different continent. 😂 But I’ll be making a trip out there in coming months to hire a realtor and get the processes started. I’ve been binging through your videos, and really love them! I enjoy learning not just about Edinburgh, but about all the surrounding areas, and the UK in general. I have family and friends there, but I’ve never been. Plus you’re similarly interest minded to me, so that helps(I’m Japanese American, so love all the Japanese food and culture bits! I’m excited to go to conventions out there, that my friends have told me about!). This was extremely informative and enlightening, because I’m a complete nerd for museums and anything of cultural and historical significance. I’m also an architecture nerd. It’s nice to see multiple Tsujiri locations(saw one of your earlier videos in Manchester), as we have a few where I’ve been living, and I love them! And a side note, I really love your umbrella! ^.^ Thanks for such a well constructed video! ❤
Aw, thank you so much!! That really means a lot to me - so glad you've been going through all the UK content as it would be a pity to miss out on all the cool places outside of Edinburgh (even though I GET IT, Edinburgh is pretty, it's easy to not want to leave >.>). Maybe we'll run into each other at one of the conventions!
@@Kakibot Oh, you attend the cons?? If you have videos about them, I haven’t seen them yet. 😂 I cosplay and attend, have been doing cons for 18 years now(I’m 36), and am very excited to start attending all the ones over there, after the move. I’m hoping I can get settled in Edinburgh in the early part of next year. 🤞🏼
I had to chuckle at the FenWick bit! 😅 It's a shame you didn't venture up the Westgate Road (?) and experience some of the local cafe's or the new bakery. Moulin Rouge is delicious and the bakery around the corner is spot on.
I was in the Grainger Market last week and love the whole of Newcastle, I live in Blaydon, 5 miles west of Newcastle and often pop into town with my family for meals etc, great video, thanks Kakibot
I will echo the comments below, that say, thank you for visiting the North East. Us Geordies are a very friendly bunch, we take great pride in the area we live in and love when folk visit. Glad to hear your having/had a great time. I sincerely hope you enjoyed Beamish Museum. I love visiting the place. The Discovery Museum is a good place to visit too. Thank you for sharing this video and please come visit again.
The shields ferry links north and south tyneside and isnt a long walk from tynemouth. Takes about 5 minutes to cross and then you can go from Tynemouth to Arbela in reasonable time. South Shields beaches are fantastic and a curry at one of the insane amount of curry houses on ocean road is a must.
@@cruel_brittania Yes and because of that, it was the first house in the world to be entirely lit by incandescent bulbs. The house in Gateshead was just one room.
Most people insist still that Edison invented the incandescent bulb, but no. It was, of course, proud Mackem Sir Joseph Swan (not quite a Geordie, but you can't have everything Joe...😂😂😂). Great vlog. ❤
Lovely video! Newcastle is definitely interesting city to check out! For me is one of the two cities we tend to go with our friends from Edinburgh if we want to meet half way through 😂
Forgot to add the first light bulb & the first train engine was invented here plus so much more and did you know northumberland has more castles than anywhere else in UK..
I haven't been back in the Toon for 15 years. Born and raised in Gateshead Town. I'm typing this from Guangzhou China where I've been teaching (Geordie) English, fairly successfully since then. As I watched this I was so hoping you would mention some of the other classic places,; but then you did, the Crown Posada. You might not have had time to mention The Free trade pub, (killer view and pub), The Cluny (the best 'on the way upl' for Bands since the Riverside closed) and of course World Headquarters (easily one of the best clubs in the north of not just England - the whole fricken island!). Canny effort though! Across the city centre you can walk from east (Gallowgate services garage) to West, (Sandyford services garage) in 35-40 mins. And from North (Saint James's park aka Mecca) to the foot of the Tyne Bridge (the greatest bridge ever!) in the same, if you keep your pace up. That's how I remember it back in the late 80's/early 90's. Newcastle is trully the jewel of the North and the capital of the north east of England. GEORDIE CAVALIERS! XX PS to walk from the North of Guangzhou city centre to the south or from East to west, you need three hours or a fricken helicpoter x
@@KakibotI was go a mention you missed that in the video about it being the most inland Kittiwake colony 😂 their nests are protected, which makes updating the Tyne bridge tricky, but they've built a special area so the birds can still nest whilst the bridge is being updated over the next 3 years
The Hancock Museum has unlocked a childhood memory. I must have got it mixed up in my head with the National Museum of Scotland. We went to both when I was a kid, but I had completely forgotten about it until now. Anyone remember if this was the museum with the bird stuck in the jet engine... I swear I'm not making that up.
I was in Newcastle once. Loved it. Thought this was one of the best travel docs I’ve ever seen. You missed out Newcastle’s night life / club scene which is really wild, but sounds like you wanted a quiet time
I love this video makes me proud to be from Newcastle. Saint Paul’s church in Jarrow is the monastery that the monk Bede stayed and the writer Catherine Cookson :) please try going there.
Glad you liked your time in my hometown ❤ Ooh, you put some memories in me with the Lit & Phil!! That was where I did all of my piano grade exams when I was young
North Shields to South Shields is just a 5 minute ferry ride away so not all that difficult however if you don't know where you're going then I'd agree, not that easy to get from north to south 😬 the ferry isn't all that well sign posted.
If you find yourself travelling to the North of England, there are lots of places I recommend in Yorkshire! There are lots of small but beautiful seaside towns that are worth a look (Whitby, Scarborough, Robin Hood's Bay, Helmsley and Malton to name a few).
I'm a Geordie from Gateshead. So many more successful people have come from Newcastle, Tod slaughter (30s) horror actor Sting (singer from the police) Jimmy nail (actor spender) Eric. Burden (singer the animals) PAC (wrestler aew) A episode of Geordie cop show spender filimed in jesmond dene park, Great video. I hope you enjoyed yourself Stay safe 👍
Sam Fender. Plus if you visit the Low Lights pub in North Shields you can see his Brit award that is now the handle of a beer pump (he used to work there before his music took off)
If you had more time you could have taken in a show at the Theatre Royal or the Tyne Opera House, or even the University Theatre. I think you missed out the Discovery Museum and also the Victoria Tunnel as well as St James Park. There's also the O2 Music Academy and Newcastle Arena. The Centre for Life has a great visitor attraction for kids. The City also has some good parks such as Exhibition, Leazes and Heaton, not forgetting Gosforth for horse racing.
save your pennies... pick up a show at the Northern Stage, currently my absolute favourite place. Also the weekend music scene in Hexham this summer is pretty amazing, most of it free too.
Newcastle is a wonderful city but then i would say that as i'm from Newcastle :) you did miss a good bit out in this vid but i guess with only 48 hours it was inevitable, for instance while the Hancock museum is very good the Discovery museum is awesome and shows what the city gave to the world , it is also 3 times bigger than the Hancock ;) the Crown Posada is a great pub but the older pub 'The old George Inn' is even better, it was frequented by King Charles !st on his visits to the city ;) then the Centurian bar in the Central station is stunning inside ! i could go on and on so will leave it here lol.
Looking forward to seeing you explore more of the north east I live about an hour away from Newcastle and it's cool to see these videos from a tourist perspective because I often see stuff I didn't even know was there, it's a really beautiful part of the country with some amazing history but it's sadly underfunded by the government and often overlooked by tourists, you should definitely check out Durham the cathedral is amazing one of the best in the world, seaham has one of the best seaglass beaches in the world people come from all over to collect it and the beach front is lovely just stick to that area 😅, Hartlepool headland has the Heugh Battery Museum that's located on a ww1 battlefield they say to be the only one in Britain and the beach there is where the first death in action of a soldier on British soil in World War I happened they also have the National Museum of the Royal Navy where you can see the HMS Trincomalee, Whitby is amazing there's the famous Abby and tons of fresh seafood Scarborough is equally as beautiful and was the first proper British seaside resort, Barnard castle has beautiful architecture the high force water fall the bows museum with the stunning silver swan I could go on and on hopefully you found some of these places and I'll see them soon in a video if not maybe you'll come back to visit more places 😊 Beamish is one of my favourite places so already looking forward to that one 😁
A city like no other and it stands alone so it actually doesn’t matter what type of break you desire it has it all, fine dining for sure I can show you, art & architecture sure I can show you, sport well of course I can show you, beaches & castles wow you need 6 months here to even grasp it. What is Newcastle and the north east ❤️? Come and find out for yourself and take a few days to explore and you can then perhaps share what you find and confirm just how special Newcastle really is.
South Shields is at least 25 minutes by Metro. Should have visited the Oldest Pub the George down the big market area, just long the lane from the Bee Hive on the right. It is said this is where we got our name Geordies from, as we supported King Charles during his plight.
As a born and bred Geordie, I’m glad you enjoyed your experience of our part of the world.

As usual a very well presented video.
Just a pity you didn't visit my home town, Whitley Bay, just 3 or 4 miles north of Tynemouth
If you want the easiest way to make it from where you were in Tynemouth to South Shields it’s the ferry across the river. It’s cheap and takes 7 mins!
Thank you for sharing loved the library with the Occult Section
A lot of good suggestions and a couple I've not seen before from being a native here for some time. Hope you had a fantastic time! Great video.
I live in Newcastle but I’ve never been to Pure Knead. Very intrigued.
the lit and phil was where the first incandescent light bulb was demonstrated
Yes. And the first house to be lit by incandescent bulbs was in Gateshead.
@@TrepeGB And the first private residence in the UK to have electricity was just up the road at Cragside in Rothbury.
@@cruel_brittania Yes and because of that, it was the first house in the world to be entirely lit by incandescent bulbs. The house in Gateshead was just one room.
The first street in the world to be lit by incandescent light bulb was Moseley Street, just along from the Lit and Phil
Glad you enjoyed the North East a wonderful place to live and you showed it off so well 😀
We just experienced Newcastle a few days ago. Loved it, such a great city!
Very happy you enjoyed our lovely town
As a born and bred Geordie you hit some good spots the only thing that you said wrong was …it’s pronounced Fenicks 😊
Simply brilliant vlog . Great place and greater people. A safe city with so much to offer
Bessie Surtees House - is a good visit, too.
Jesmond dene is our happy place 💚
XX PS to walk from the North of Guangzhou city centre to the south or from East to west, you need three hours or a fricken helicpoter x
love the soundtracks transition around 15:03 ,and thank you for making such wonderful video❤❤
Bold to assume I wouldn't be buzzing for a Ted Talk about Newcastle's bridges...... next video idea?
Only if I'm allowed to sprinkle a whole lotta fun facts about the most inland Kittiwake colony in the world! 🪶
We don’t say Fenwick, we pronounce it like fennick.
Aaaaaah I totally forgot in the vacuum of recording my voiceover at home! Thanks for the reminder!
I was in Newcastle once. Loved it. Thought this was one of the best travel docs I’ve ever seen. You missed out Newcastle’s night life / club scene which is really wild, but sounds like you wanted a quiet time
In my opinion, the best part of the country. But im biased. Did you get to visit Cragside near Rothbury?
I love this video makes me proud to be from Newcastle. Saint Paul’s church in Jarrow is the monastery that the monk Bede stayed and the writer Catherine Cookson :) please try going there.
The deep north cinnamon donuts are lush ❤
Aren't they just! Getting a railcard just so I can justify more donut trips! 💃
Sorry about the rain .ive lived here all my life & its great plus a brilliant night life vibe so much more to see.
Best place to eat with plenty of options is Grainger Market there's something for everyone catering for all dietary needs
Glad you liked your time in my hometown ❤
Ooh, you put some memories in me with the Lit & Phil!! That was where I did all of my piano grade exams when I was young
I did my violin grade exam there too 😂
Beautiful, as usual! I need to know...what was the beer you tasted in Newcastle's second oldest pub? You made it look so delicious 🩷
North Shields to South Shields is just a 5 minute ferry ride away so not all that difficult however if you don't know where you're going then I'd agree, not that easy to get from north to south 😬 the ferry isn't all that well sign posted.
That’s great to know! Didn’t notice it while spending time around there 🫥 next time!
If you find yourself travelling to the North of England, there are lots of places I recommend in Yorkshire! There are lots of small but beautiful seaside towns that are worth a look (Whitby, Scarborough, Robin Hood's Bay, Helmsley and Malton to name a few).
Video on the coastal towns coming soon!! ♥️
Thanks for the tips, we are going there today ❤
Hope you had fun! 🔥
Great vid, made me very proud to live in such a beautiful city.
What a superb video of my beloved city - thank you ❤
I'm a Geordie from Gateshead. So many more successful people have come from Newcastle,
Tod slaughter (30s) horror actor
Sting (singer from the police)
Jimmy nail (actor spender)
Eric. Burden (singer the animals)
PAC (wrestler aew)
A episode of Geordie cop show spender filimed in jesmond dene park,
Great video. I hope you enjoyed yourself
Stay safe 👍
How did you forget Alan Shearer and Ant n Dec? 😂
@@Danoona22 I said a lot more, like Elvis Costello,
@@da90sReAlvlocElvis Costello was born in London and brought up in Liverpool.
Sam Fender. Plus if you visit the Low Lights pub in North Shields you can see his Brit award that is now the handle of a beer pump (he used to work there before his music took off)
Really enjoyed this - thanks.
The waterfall 15:42 is 10 minutes walk from my office, I love going at lunchtime to refocus
best small city in england everything you need in walking distance
Also Northern Stage and Live Theatre for original productions. Lots of small independent venues too.
You missed out St James Park, but apart from that you got it spot on!
Newcastle has a castle … no kidding! 😹
I love Newcastle and this video makes it feel so luxurious.
Really though, it is in many ways. I wouldn't live anywhere else than the North East.
Another amazing video! Booking a trip now ✅
Newcastle is "quiet and chill". Hmmm. That has not been my experience of Newcastle on a boozy Saturday night. It's a terrific city.
Very good thank you so much keep it going
Newcastle is a bit like Toronto.
Why go there when NY is so near 😉
Edit: This made me want to visit.
High Quality
fantastic.
South Shields is at least 25 minutes by Metro. Should have visited the Oldest Pub the George down the big market area, just long the lane from the Bee Hive on the right. It is said this is where we got our name Geordies from, as we supported King Charles during his plight.
