    Advice I always give as a former CPA( but no one listens, lol) is you must be able to support yourself and the business outside the start-up business for two years minimum. I’ve seen multiple businesses fail right before they might take off pre- two year mark because they run out of funding.

    It's a business and it's a service like anything else. We have to stop thinking of death services as volunteer work unless you specifically want to get experience. When you offer a service free you devalue the service. This is a specialty service. My trainer told us not to quite our day job and said there isn't much work in this field and should think about volunteer work. After paying 800.00 for a course that they promote having a trainer say that is a disservice to the profession. I'm in Canada which is a little less open than the US but if we don't change our attitude to death services then it won't change. Death Doula should not be a volunteer service no more than being a funeral director is.
