A lot of these reactors are too young to know that none of the actors in "Airplane" were known as comedic actors when they were cast. The Directors only wanted dramatic actors who were told to play everything straight (dead-pan delivery). Leslie Neilson is a perfect example of this approach.
Lloyd Bridges had been on the set for a few days before Robert Stack arrived. Stack was confused about the movie being a comedy, when there were no jokes in the script .Bridges had thought the same until he started shooting. He explained to Stack, we're the jokes.
The egg trick has been around for a long time. It was old even when this movie came out, perhaps from the Vaudeville days. The woman only has one egg in her mouth and the magician has one in his palm.
Yeah but the nature of the joke is different though.. a sick passenger ... who gets an egg out of her mouth but the egg has a bird that flew away.. ..it's a visual joke ... the bird flew.. but there is a disease called "bird flu"... the joke is in the bird not egg.
Back in 1980 the audio headsets that the airlines passed out looked very much like a stethoscope. They were basically hollow tubes that plugged into the seat armrest and carried the analog sound content.
6:04 That's a little pet peeve of mine when it comes to reactors, because they watch movies by request or votes it's all mixed up timeline -wise and they get their references mixed up
First person i have seen on tbe comments that completely understands the visual joke..it's rare but people can get "bird flu"! And I am serious and don't call me shirley!😅
I have watched this movie....and watched many reactions to it....and the one joke eneryone seems to miss is that throughout the movie....a jet airliner is making propeller aircraft sounds....
Does anyone notice that the engine noise is propellers from piston engines, rather than jets? I assume this is a reference to the film 'Zero Hour!' (1957) to which Airplane! is an affectionate parody.
The egg scene itself I've never found funny yet it seems to be left in by every reactor, but the scenes either side - with the reveal of Nielsen in the stethoscope and the "big building with patients" line - are both hilarious. 🤣
The egg is part of a visual joke but the joke is slick.. I did not get it till later... the joke is not the egg but the bird... the literal visual joke is that she has "bird flu"...
Peter Graves and Leslie Nelsien almost cracked up because they were serious actors can u tell me when we can land not sure tell me I’m a doctor not for 2 hours u can’t tell me for 2 hours they could handle it
nobody picked up on it the passengers had the choice of chicken or fish she had chicken so she is laying the eggs of the chicken, also nobody picked up on in this movie everytime they show the plane outside flying the noise of the plane is a propeller plane and not a jet engine making the plane noise
I'll take it a step further... the egg that came out of the mouth is a visual joke.. but it is not the egg that's the punchline but the bird that flew away... the passenger has "bird flu".
Nobody... got it, unless someone said it in the comments..... everyone was concentrating on the egg but it is THE BIRD that is the visual joke... she has "Bird Flu!"
The egg is part of a literal visual joke... the joke is not the egg but the bird... the bird flew... but there is a sickness called "bird flu"... it's a corny joke is know.. but that's the joke.
I find it annoying when one of them either doesn’t get the joke or they totally misinterpret the joke or they take the scene so seriously that they can’t believe a joke is even being made. And you’re right it’s not their fault but It’s still so annoying to watch!!
@@sweiland75I’m Gen X, I’ve seen this movie probably 80-100 X and I still don’t find the egg scene funny. Nice screen name btw. He was an amazing musician!!! His interview with Stern that he did 5 yrs before he died, was good.
The irreplaceable Leslie Neilson. Just classic.
Dawn Marie gets the award for the best laugh. ❤
Yeah, isn’t she just adorable?
@@mattslupek7988 Dawn Marie and Cassie are tied for first place in Most Adorable Reactor.
8:57 _Movies with Mary_ reigns supreme for both cutest laugh and cutest reactor. It's not even a contest.
And Leslie Neilson's career turned into a comedic one, and we got Police Squad and The Naked Gun series.
When asked about playing against type after this movie, he said he was cast against type before. Comedy was his natural form.
Damn it, Jim! I'm a doctor, not a magician! 😂

All the reactors asking why his stethoscope is out.... its out because he's a doctor, obviously
@slider954 Surely you can't be serious?!
And a locksmith!
@@OgreProgrammer CALL THE LOCKSMITH!
The key to the comedy is that everybody is playing their role straight.
"I haven't seen anything this bad since the Anita Bryant concert."
Best. Joke. Ever.

Airplane! is a GREAT MOVIE!!!!!!!!!
Back in 1980 the audio headsets that the airlines passed out looked very much like a stethoscope. They were basically hollow tubes that plugged into the seat armrest and carried the analog sound content.
Those things were awful.
A good ole magic trick I saw years before seeing this movie at the drive-ins 1980.
Classic comedy gold. RIP Leslie Neilson.
I love how obvious that magic trick is.

Cigarette?
Yes, I know.
Is this some kind of bust?
Very impressive, but I’d like to ask you a few questions first.
That was the sound of the hospital joke going right over Asia's head.......WHOOOOOOSH!
The king of deadpan delivery and Canadian treasure, Mr. Leslie Nielsen 😅
This was Julie Hagerty first role and her boyfriend
Airplane is an entire movie of Dad jokes!

dang I even missed that 😂

The Cine woman gives Emo Phillips vibes!
You should do one of all of Johnny's scenes.
The movie is loaded with gags, but you have to pay attention. A second watch is sometimes needed. Love you Leslie Neilsen. RIP.
Sometimes a 10th watch... The one that is hardest is when the plane crashed into the terminal.... A baby gets thrown in the air😮😂
Yes, we are addicted to silly.
"Why does she have so many eggs in her mouth?" Because one isn't one too many?
It's a visual joke ..but the emphasis is not on the egg but the bird that flew away... the passenger has "bird flu"!
A comedy classic!
Naked Gun came later.

The eggs are reference to the Bird Flu which was floating around
