Dutch, a word. When exploring unexplored areas that are known to have limestone caves and sink holes. Carry a long pole capable of supporting your weight perpendicular in case you step into a hole covered by leaves. We used to have the point man do this when we were patrolling in the mountains. I still do this when exploring.

When hiking my property, I carry a walking stick. Poke before you touch. Never know when there’s a snake! If I’m walking into a rocky area or see a hole, I grab a handful of dirt and throw it in the direction I’m walking, it scares away critters. I would have definitely thrown a handful of dirt in that hole before exploring!

The sink-hole cave that is identified at 12:53, looks as if it is a stump hole and here's why. There may have been a tree that blew over and there was a large root ball attached. If you look at the side of the hole as you approach, it looks as if there is a mound of dirt. This could have been where the tree roots decayed and the dirt settled. Hardwoods have shallow, wide root balls compared to softwoods. Fun video. Keep up the great work!

How much land do you own? We have our own woodlot. The big ‘dents’ you see are where old trees used to be. Long ago, the tree was cut for home building or firewood, or the tree just died, then the stump decayed away leaving a big dent. It’s called displacement. We have a lot of rock here in Pa on our mountain, what I usually do is fill the dents with rock, then sticks. Over time, fallen leaves and old sticks create soil. When we first bought our farm, I had to fill a bunch of holes with rock then topped off with a bit of soil and grass seed. Something I do in my woods is nip soft wood saplings whenever I see them, and plant gensing seeds. I used to belong to a woodland owner’s association and they always had good tips regarding stewardship.

Being a hunter myself for decades I’d probably say the reason the deer aren’t touching that one corn pile is because of that Buck decoy being so close to it. That would be my Guess, I’d like to add a good place for the decoy in my opinion is your grassy areas you planted with the feeder in a distance from it. Also if you had a life size Doe Decoy to put with him like a Buck is Tending a Hot Doe in Heat and spray him between the legs with Dominate Buck and spray her rear area with Doe in Heat.... Then have a blind set up where you can see them well you can draw out that Big Dominate Buck in your area to get a shot on him coming to them. Just a idea 😉👍
PS: The ones who make Ever Calm sell the real deal Rutting Buck Urine and Real Doe in Estrus Urine. I’ve had awesome success using their products.

Was that a natural spring I heard, flowing in that cave? Having flowing, clean water on the property is great! And I would be interested in seeing the shed converted into a cooler.

those can be made in different ways.. rotted out tree hole..underground water moving..animals digging..depends on how big they are..what started them and then what made it bigger..You would have to be VERY careful going into one as it could collapse on you..but also heavy rain can make them fall in also..I would put a camera down there first to watch the opening and then move it farther in and see what you get..all kinds of animals can move in and take over those..with that hill you have there you could dig out a hole and build a cement house in the side of that hill and make you a cooler house in a hill..or a storage building..really cool..GBY ML

Had a realistic bow target for deer in my patch. Every year had to put it back up due to the bucks having a go at what they thought was a rival. Took a lot of damage over the years from antlers, not my arrows.

Consider putting a bike flag up to mark the entrance to that cave/tunnel. Also a trail cam so you can see if it is in use.

New sub here. Time to add a few more cameras , one at the cave for sure. If I was walking around like you did, my right hand would not be empty, my 45 would be in it, spare magazine in my pocket. Because you never know what you may run into. Stay safe out there, God Bless.

Definitely camera the cave!!! That'd be AWESOME to see what goes in / out of it for sure! Also, yes, take a few friends with you! NOT your daughter,... you're gonna need some adults with you, in case you run into any type of trouble. Poor thing would just flip out, and might not be capable of saving your life, or hers for that matter. ;) Please be safe out there! Nature can be unforgiving! SUPER jealous of that gorgeous property of yours though! 😍🥰

I can't imagine how the early Cherokees used those caves for hunting, living, hiding, batting animals etc etc. Sooooo cool. My 5th generation grandmother was full blooded Cherokee I just found out. Its fun to track your heritage.

Put a good cage out there with some bait and also a camera that doesn't have a backwards memory card in it would be amazing. Then you can see if there is or isn't anything living in there or maybe get a gopro to look into the cave.

@KeepingItDutch, hey there found you thru Arms family Homestead. You have a great channel and ive been watching for a bit now. Id love to see what you decide to do to the shed. You dont see mant folks doing that sort of thing so it would be great to see it. Also please put a camera where the cave is, I think we would all like to know whats coming and going. Its too bad you couldnt clear it out and reinforce it and toss some doors on it, it would be a great cellar or blind. Reminded me of the shipping containers people bury in the ground and make sliding door blinds out of those or even tornado shelters. Just an idea.

I’m glad to see that you use an Olight flashlight! They are the best around! I’ve never been afraid of very many things in my life but you couldn’t take a stick and beat me enough to make me go in that cave! As loose as those rocks are around the entrance the probability of a cave in would be very high! There are several spelunkers around that would just love to explore that cave! I would definitely put a camera pointed at the entrance! Thanks for sharing!!!!

Dutch that decoy may be spooking the deer off the corn pile. They see that decoy and it never moves and don't want anything to do with it. The younger ones maybe but not the older deer. But I'm by no means telling you what to do on your land just suggesting it might be. The cave is really cool. You did the right thing not exploring by yourself. That's the coolest piece of property I've ever seen It has a little of everything.

take a thermal camera down the cave if you have one. i have a few caves on my property in SW Missouri. Also, since you are in the vicinity of a creek and bluffs/rock outcroppings, you may have some old indian burial grounds. it is possible to find large rock mounds or similar along river/creeks on bluffs which are likley Osage indian burial sites.
