Thanks for the update, my current Honda 4 wheeler is my 9th Honda in my life + 1 push mower, I am thinking of getting the new 4 seater Honda Talon within the year. Key word is bulletproof, I own Polaris Snowmobiles and have had great luck for the last 25 years with them but you never hear Polaris described as bulletproof.
Great video. You gave some good well-thought-out pros and cons. To be honest I think the cons aren't that bad. I think Honda is probably as reliable As It Gets. I'm a big fan of Honda. I live here in Kentucky where everybody has multiple four-wheelers and UTV's and such. There are a lot of polaris's running around. Is die hard as some people are I've never heard somebody say Polaris is reliable. They just buy them because it's a popular name. I think if not for the RZR, setting a trend, Polaris would not be a very profitable company. Just my opinion based upon a long time involved with off-road stuff. Thanks again for the video.
I bought a used pioneer 700-2 and the first trip I took with it was a 700 mile trek around the Frank Church Wilderness in central Idaho aka the Magruder corridor. The only problems we experienced was a failure of the Bronco shocks that I installed ( both Bronco rear shocks failed in the last 20 miles of the trip) and I had a plastic windshield that got very scratched up from all the dust. Mechanically the Honda performed flawlessly I recommend it to anyone who asks me about it. Put new FOX shocks all 4 corners and it rides like a dream.
Good to see how brands like Honda stay true to quality and not cheating out like other brands. Also honda just focuses on reliability not a list of cheap gimmicky excessories. As long as it ran and served its purpose I wouldn't cry about anything.
Just purchased a 2017 Pioneer 1000 LE. We have a Polaris Razor 4 1000. So far that machine has been great. We decided on an additional SXS for other reasons. Kids are getting older & like to ride their own machine so we opted for a machine that we could take our Great Dane with us on. So far the Honda is been AMAZING!!! Put 100 miles on it the first weekend @ I can't wait to put more miles on.
U mentioned about draining other battery but you can put a switch for a sylanoid to put both batteries in use,or switch off and only run on one battery, when you need 2 flip switch
I’ve had my Pioneer for 4 years after owning a Polaris Ranger and haven’t looked back. I had to upgrade to the Honda after the Polaris caught fire and burned my garage down. The power block for the winch shorted out and caused the fire as determined by the fire inspector and lab analysis.
I have the pioneer 700 4 seater I love it. Honda is the best there is. I agree with the herky jerky especially when trying to hitch to something. I wish I had gone with the 1000 but it had just came out and there were not many available. The 1000 would have given me the high/low range and 6 speed instead of 3 speed but I’ve honestly never had an issue on the farm with it and we work her pretty hard. Nice review. Maybe I should do one on ours.

When I bought my yamaha raptor In February of 2007 by may I had well over 1,000 miles on it by the time the time the snow melted here in northern Minnesota. It's 2020 and yes I've freshen up the motor, stroker crank, high compression piston plus efi controller, ect....ive pulled a polarIs ranger down the gravel road faster than my other buddy could go on his polarIs atv 700 twin. I have wore out 3 sets of rear tires so far. Really love the 22" rear tsl super swampers. Great in the winter for running fast on the river passing up snowmobiles. At 75mph in 4th gear I can pull it up shift into 5th and it's stupid fast. Stock gearing? Absolutely not. LOL. If I buy a UTV it will be a Honda pioneer, and I'm sure I will turn into a true off road big bog machine. Warranty on honda? Never.....
Great review. I have a Pioneer 1000-5 and we love it. It’s a wonderful machine in the areas that count...power, torque, hold back breaking, power steering, reliability, towing and hauling, etc. Throttle max solves the jumpy throttle. 👍
@@danielspencer5023 it’s a simple steel plate that attaches to the gas pedal. It changes the angle of your foot and reduces strain during long rides. Also smoothes out the throttle jump when starting out. Search online…lots of reviews.
I don’t have a side by side ( yet) but I did compare the Honda and Polaris 4 wheelers, when looking to buy. I’m an older guy looking for utility and not something to just go out and hotdog on, and I settled on the Honda Rancher 420. In just a walk around and doing the touchy feely it was obvious that the Honda was much more substantial, and costed quite a bit more which got me to looking hard at the Polaris, but in the end it was Honda’s bullet proof shaft drive transmission and I even opted for power steering which is great, it turns 4 yrs old this month and all I’ve had to do are oil changes which I do myself, I do use the Honda oil as not to void any warrantee ,Good luck with those piggys!

i got rid of my ranger for a pioneer. that ranger cost me money everytime i cranked it up.. i sold my ranger at 3 years old. i have had my pioneer for 4 years and have spent zero money on it. way more power more torque and more top end. only downfall is its heavier
I have the suicide doors on our Ranger. They are easier to get in and out. On another note, I just gave away a1985 Honda Big Red 250ES with reverse. Never had to get into the engine or gearbox. Did all the brakes, cables and wheels bearings before I got rid of it.It’s out at a homestead about 15 miles from the nearest road doing fine.
Great video! We’re you able to get the Super ATV plow hooked up on your Honda? I’m in the market for a SxS and one of the main things it will need to do is plow snow. Also love to see you review your plow and winch in a video sometime.
I hunt in eastern Oregon and one of the ranchers I talked to was on a Honda foreman. It was 2 years old and he already had 20k miles on it. I also had a conversation with a Honda dealer who stated that they regularly get these atvs in for rebuild with 30k and more miles. The owner will get it back for a fraction of what a new one cost and put another 20 to 30k miles on it. You can't do that with a polaris or canam.
I have 2017 700 4 love it very good work horse. Not good for trails because of width 60inches most places 50inches limits, so I bought a 16 Polaris 900, like it for that been lucky not major issues, if I had to get rid of one it would be the Polaris, need my workhorse more.
We switched to Polaris after our Honda blew its motor with only 20 miles on it, no rough riding, just cruising at 3000 rpm when it bogged down and blew it motor, our Polaris now has 30,000 miles and can handle full throttle no problem, but I understand your reasons for changing
My experience with Hondas has been great. The thing about Hondas good or bad it will be doing the same thing years down the road. My 2020 700 rides pretty harsh.
We bought a 2019 Polaris XP crew 1000 and I’m pretty sure it’s spent most it’s days in the shop. Hoping one of these trips to the dealer they accidentally throw a pioneer motor and drivetrain in it.
Wes Richards I once considered renting a storage unit to keep it out of the garage at least for the winter months but it’s only been one winter and it’s typically covered at the dealerships garage so in some way I try to tell myself I’m saving money in storage fees. Small victories I guess.
all u hav to do for a small smooth movement is hold the brakes jus a little while applying throttle pedal. u wil learn quickly the balance for smoothness

Try to find a used Honda UTV for sale. Few and far between. Try to find a used Polaris and they're everywhere. Just like Miller welders. When they do pop up they sell in less than a day whereas the Lincoln weld packs you can find all over.
I went from Honda to Polaris many years ago because their brakes on their ATVs sucked on the wet muddy trails I ran. If they couldn’t keep up with tech on brakes what else are they behind on. I’ve towed many pounds on an ATV trailer building a remote cabin and going through deep puddles and up and down steep hills I never had belt problems. The EBS I had on a Sportsman was the great on down hills for engine braking.
One of the cons I was expecting you to have is the extreme heat that comes up from under/behind the seat. I have a 2018 and it is really bad in the summer. I put an aftermarket heat shield kit on it and it barely helps. I have a fan kit that I haven’t put on it because I’m not sure I want to hassle with it now. Other than that I like the machine but it’s kind of a big deal so I’m not sure what I’m going to do.
One thing I realized that alot of people don't is even though the hp is less than the ranger or other competitors, it has way less drivetrain lost. The ranger has a 30% loss especially with the belt/clutch assembly. The Honda only has a 10% loss. So they are basically the same wheel hp
lmao no. the CVT has torque multiplication that FAR exceeds the gear range of a stacked {fixed ratio] trans. "hp" is a complete nonsense term. It does not exist. torque exists. hp is essentially just how often the torque impulse is produced...its a marketing term.
My 2019 Polaris Ranger XP1000 stays in the shop. Broken axles, belts, recalls, rear differential exploded last week. I dont even trail ride on it. Honda Pioneer 1000-3 will be my next SXS. #polarisjunk
I’m not a big Polaris fan either. In fact anything that uses a cvt belt drive system isn’t really something I want. Right now I’m between a can am and a Honda. From what I’ve read the can am is awesome but it is a cvt belt drive like all the other crap out there so I’m leaning heavily towards Honda. Can am does have lots of nice features though and has the rotax motor which I like
The side by side is just so convenient for running around doing stuff. It is also made to carry passengers and cargo and easily hook up to trailers. All that is possible with a tractor but it is a pain to switch hitches, boxes etc. Side by side is much easier to get in and out of and to drive. We have 4 tractors and one side by side. The side by side is used probably 75 percent of the time. Tractor is better for heavy duty work and powered attachments.
Valid question. The side by side allows me to check fence lines quickly. It allows me to get from one end of the property to the other quickly. I can haul more with the side by side and I can have an assistant or two ride with me. The tractor is used more for heavier work - dragging logs, moving heavier trailers on the farm, mowing and other 3 point hitch activities. If I had to choose between one or the other, the tractor would be the first purchase every time.
Boy that just clears that garage door lol I would have been watching close the first time I pulled that in! Somethin to think about if your are considering bigger wheels an tars lol
My dad bought a Honda rancher electric hand shift in 2000 and it had enough miles on it to go from Mississippi to California and back before it got sold
Buy a Throttle Maxx for your gas pedal. Game changer for throttle consistency and smoother ride. Doors are double latch for safety.....when u get in just pull door and it will click again-no rattle

Hasn't been mistreated, but has been rode hard and put up wet.its been in the rice fields of Arkansas duck and goose hunting. But it has been well maintained. @@Guillo78 people trashing polaris left and right here and one dude sticks up for polaris and you go all white knight for honda? Think before you type hombre.
@@tylerchurch4548 I don't know man, the Polaris is objectively bad, why would you defend such thing?
Thank you for your review of the Honda Pioneer. I am in the market for a side-by-side so it is very useful to get first hand experience reviews.
I had a Honda, they are too small. Love my Polaris Ranger I did a video on when I bought it and 1 year later
Doors keep the mud down. I just bought the 700 and love it so far
The 700 is amazing. I have one on my farm it's a highlight!!
I have a polaris ranger 2018 with 8,456 miles on it and never had any problems.
U mentioned about draining other battery but you can put a switch for a sylanoid to put both batteries in use,or switch off and only run on one battery, when you need 2 flip switch
I heard all pros and no cons. Honda blow Polaris away, you will have that thing as long as you want to.
I had a 98 ACE as well and yes a great bike.
I have the 700 and curse honda as they could have and should have put a 4th gear in
Nice review bud. But I still like my Polaris, lol. Great ride we had this week!!
I figured you would trade that machine as soon as you got home! Had a great time too. Need to figure out how to pair up on some future work.
Try a Throttlemax pedal...makes a huge difference in control and smooth operation...
Exactly what i was thinking. Would cure that issue up immediately
I've got a 2020 Honda pioneer 1000 limited I bought new with the extended warranty
I have 10,000 miles
I've done all my maintenance
Kept my fluids changed
Been a great buggy
Just watched your original and now this update. Id love to see another update since its been another 3 years since this review!
Never.....
I have a Polaris General. I've had problems with the power steering. I found that it was caused by a fuse coming loose in my case.
Honda's are bulletproof.
Almost time to make another video for this thing. Looking into purchasing by end of year possibly
WE want a year 3 update!!! please!!
Great review. I have a Pioneer 1000-5 and we love it. It’s a wonderful machine in the areas that count...power, torque, hold back breaking, power steering, reliability, towing and hauling, etc. Throttle max solves the jumpy throttle. 👍
What is Throttle max?
@@danielspencer5023 it’s a simple steel plate that attaches to the gas pedal. It changes the angle of your foot and reduces strain during long rides. Also smoothes out the throttle jump when starting out. Search online…lots of reviews.
I don’t have a side by side ( yet) but I did compare the Honda and Polaris 4 wheelers, when looking to buy. I’m an older guy looking for utility and not something to just go out and hotdog on, and I settled on the Honda Rancher 420. In just a walk around and doing the touchy feely it was obvious that the Honda was much more substantial, and costed quite a bit more which got me to looking hard at the Polaris, but in the end it was Honda’s bullet proof shaft drive transmission and I even opted for power steering which is great, it turns 4 yrs old this month and all I’ve had to do are oil changes which I do myself, I do use the Honda oil as not to void any warrantee ,Good luck with those piggys!
we have a 86 honda sx atv thats still going strong . it was ran hard still starts on 1-2 pulls, never replaced starter, no problems in 35 years besides starter. 04 rancher replaced starter thats it, and 14 foreman
You should wire a trickle charger with automatic shut off and float feature to your battery and charge it on occassions. Your battery will last a lot longer
Can't wait for the 2 year review
i got rid of my ranger for a pioneer. that ranger cost me money everytime i cranked it up.. i sold my ranger at 3 years old. i have had my pioneer for 4 years and have spent zero money on it. way more power more torque and more top end. only downfall is its heavier
Nice to hear good thing about the Honda
Not sure if I should get the thousand cc or the smaller one that’s narrower
I went bigger just due to the towing and payload I needed
I have the suicide doors on our Ranger. They are easier to get in and out. On another note, I just gave away a1985 Honda Big Red 250ES with reverse. Never had to get into the engine or gearbox. Uses the hell out of it hauling materials to a remote cabin site.
Lol what?!?
My experience with Hondas has been great. The thing about Hondas good or bad it will be doing the same thing years down the road. My 2020 700 rides pretty harsh.
Thanks for the update.
You are solidifying my decision!
Awesome video please keep up the great videos me and my family definitely enjoy watching them especially when it has a Honda side-by-side in it 🤠😉
We bought a 2019 Polaris XP crew 1000 and I’m pretty sure it’s spent most it’s days in the shop. Hoping one of these trips to the dealer they accidentally throw a pioneer motor and drivetrain in it.
Eric Mieure 2020 same machine, it’s a shop queen 😫
Wes Richards I once considered renting a storage unit to keep it out of the garage at least for the winter months but it’s only been one winter and it’s typically covered at the dealerships garage so in some way I try to tell myself I’m saving money in storage fees. Small victories I guess.
The doors have a rubber stopper, it can be turned to stop the door rattle.
all u hav to do for a small smooth movement is hold the brakes jus a little while applying throttle pedal.
u wil learn quickly the balance for smoothness
Thank you for the review. I was torn between the Polaris and Honda. Looks like the Honda wins in my book
Honda Honda made of tin. Ride it out and push it in !

Is the battery 12vdc ? I would want to install a powerful CB radio. It's 600 Watts. Needs 12v @ 70amps.
The rubber door stops are adjustable in-and-out to close the gap minimizes rattle
Great follow up review. Thinking about selling my somewhat reliable gator 825i and buying a “23 pioneer 1000 deluxe to go along with my 1200hr “15 Honda p500(replaced starter)... How about another review, if you still have it...? Also because I love

Ha! Perfect! I should’ve been more observant. I’m gonna get one and that’s that! Keep ‘em coming- maybe Honda just might give you one .. 🤞 Thanks
We have a 2013 Big Red MUV with over 5,000 miles on it. Zero issues so far, same battery even. Now our 2020 Polaris 850 ATV has like 6,500 miles and has had several issues each year. Even that being said I'd still get another Polaris ATV, you just can't beat the ride and fun factor of this machine.
You can't go wrong with honda. Just sold a 2003 rancher. Bought a Kawasaki mule. It fit our needs better than the honda. Never looked at polaris because of the horror stories about quality.
How's the Mule holding up?
@@docmadhattan excellent. 100 hrs no issues.
@@mikecox7180 Appreciate the feedback. You mentioned that the Mule fit your needs better than the Honda - are you primarily using it as a working vehicle? Towing/hauling stuff/firewood around the property etc? I'd appreciate if you can elaborate some on how it fits you better. Cheers
@@docmadhattan we have a wedding venue. Haul people from parking to the barn. Fold back seat down and haul firewood to outdoor stove. Mostly work vehicle. Its not fast but does have power to pull and haul.
Great video! I have a 700 Pioneer that I use for chores/projects on my land in northern MN. Like you I had a Honda Forman for 13 years before deciding that a SXS was needed. I have never regretted buying a Honda it's completely reliable.
Have a 16 the only cons is shocks are rough i bought 814 love them
The roll cage is to high for toy haulers
And the throttle a lil jerky
But I love it for dependability and reliability it is a work horse

Can never go wrong with a Honda - their cars, the Ridgeline pick-up, motorcycles, lawn mowers, etc are are great running machines. Like your bike I am sure your S x S will give you years of worry free service on the farm.
I'm with ya on everything but the Ridgeline...that is not a truck
Ridgeline is ugly and expensive.
@@holysmokes9813 Respectfully disagree on the Ridgeline. I have had two since 2007 and love them. It may not be a truck for you but they have done everything I want them to do and VERY dependable.
@@jimh.412 Old Ridgeline was "Ugly" but I loved it. Newer one looks more pickup like. Expensive is relative - I would look at total cost of ownership and would argue they are actually pretty cheap in the long run.
@@dougwilson676 I'm not paying $40,000+ starting for a car/truck that I can't stand looking at. Yes the new ones look a lot better then the old ones.
First thing I did with my UTV was to yank the doors ...I guess if I drove through the brush I might reconsider ....btw storing doors? Just strap up in garage rafters or hang on wall etc
It’s a Honda, a great vehicle manufacturer.
I have 3" of lift, 30" tires and almost 2000 miles on my 2016 P1k-5. Reverse is a little high geared, the heat under front seat is pretty bad here in the Mississippi summers, but other than than my machine has been awesome. I hunt, play and mainly work with my pioneer. The only other machine I'd even look at is the can am defender.
Had the same problems with my polaris. Took our in to get it serviced at 2800 miles. It cost $4000.00 to get it back. There wasnot much left of it. I had it serviced every 500 miles before that. Bought the extended warranty also on the honda. Hope I wasted my money. After all the problems with the Polaris I was gun shy also. Love the pioneer especially in steep country. Don't like free wheeling down a mountain side with no compression.
Hi great video, but what is the top speed on the Honda Pioneer Electric? Tried to google it...........
Yep,toyota tacoma,Kubota tractor, honda UTV.Its called fit and finish and engineering.I work too hard for my dollar, not into gambling.
Amen to that....i own all 3 and won't ever switch back...
Still riding mi 1981 gl 500 interstate only 58000 went 700 round trip to New york up state last summer gowing to TN this year stihl pulling fire wood withe a 86 trx 250 and log arch
My 2013 Honda Big Red 700.. I put a car battery in it! so much better. always seem they sometimes crank slow. even with new starters. but Car batter really did the job.
Reliability.... It's a Honda. What did you expect? Honda isn't the fastest. It isn't the flashiest, they just plain Work.
My 2019 Polaris Ranger XP1000 stays in the shop. Broken axles, belts, recalls, rear differential exploded last week. I dont even trail ride on it. Honda Pioneer 1000-3 will be my next SXS. #polarisjunk
Switch over to side by side reviewing man it really suits u
Awesome outstanding video. Thank you so much for sharing
How much did you pay for it? I can’t find anywhere that they are marked down like the atv”s?
I’m not a big Polaris fan either. In fact anything that uses a cvt belt drive system isn’t really something I want. Right now I’m between a can am and a Honda. From what I’ve read the can am is awesome but it is a cvt belt drive like all the other crap out there so I’m leaning heavily towards Honda. Can am does have lots of nice features though and has the rotax motor which I like
Honest question. Why would you need both a tractor and a side by side, aside from speed? It seems the tractor could do it all.
Often wonder the same thing, maybe could explain to us
The side by side is just so convenient for running around doing stuff.
Thanks, makes sense if you have helpers, work alone so did not consider this. Can understand the convenience as it is like a small truck
We’ve had our Polaris 2017 had no problems with it
Boy that just clears that garage door lol I would have been watching close the first time I pulled that in!
I have a2014 Polaris Ranger570EeFI with 15000+ miles on it .why would you want to buy a Honda,? Hasn't been mistreated, but has been rode hard and put up wet.its been in the rice fields of Arkansas duck and goose hunting. But it has been well maintained. Trying to put a starter on it now, for the first time. ANYSUGGESTIONS?
Now it all makes perfect sense... why I switched from Polaris to Honda... and ended up with a Yamaha (Viking)... hands down the best engineered and designed all purpose (farm hand/trail riding) side-by-side on the market today.
