My friends son was just diagnosed at 3 years old. I just realized this year that I am probably autistic. My friend used to play her music so loud I could barely stand to be at her house. Now that she has been educated about her son't autism, the music is way quieter and sometimes off. Also she decluttered and painted the walls a more soothing colour. Something she told me one day made me happy, so I asked "do you mind if I flap my hands"? She knew what is was because her son did it. She said of course you can. So I flapped my hands in excitement. It felt so good to do that around someone other than my husband and somewhere other than my own house. I can see how people think autistic people are immature and want to infantilize us based on that, but flapping in excitement does not make me less logical. Even a neurotypical person would do it if they won the lottery or they were told they were about to become grand parents or something big and life changing. We do it because a birthday cake is arriving, or our favourite show is coming on.

Squealing and hand-flapping when extremely excited about a person place or thing.
Other odd one is crying when happy...confuses people when it happens.
Have adhd/dyslexia, gifted and talented during school years, been tested multiple times and told I'm too smart to be autistic. Have autism on both sides of my family men and women on dad's side. Women only on mom's side.
Thank you for sharing this important information!

My eleven year old daughter is going to get checked for autism through the school. There are so many signs, we just never saw them, even though I have suspected that I myself am autistic but cannot be checked as there is no place in my local area to do that for adults. The thing is, it is going to be about 22 months before she is diagnosed by which time she will be halfway through her first year at high school but definitely needs the support through school before that. We were called by her teacher last week saying she had been disrespectful and disruptive, so I told her her situation and she told me she knew. Yet still said what she said.

That’s crazy she has to wait so long for accomodations. Maybe try getting her DXed with something else in the meantime so she can get accommodations right away. I was DXed with “test anxiety” (what nonsense) and OCD at my high school, which didn’t screen for ASD. I got accommodations almost right away.

Would anyone else agree that chewing on the inside of their mouth as stimming because i’m constantly doing that ? also I tap my foot alot if i’m standing in the supermarket staring at products or waiting to be served, and I sometimes tap or flap my hand when walking down the street listening to my music 🎧

My wife came accros your channel and forwarded it to me, thinking you might have an idea of my situation.
Stimming ... yes l rock back and forth even now while commenting here. So l am wondering if you know anything about head rolling prior to going to sleep and waking. I have been doing it for as long as l remember. I am 65 years old now and still roll my head most time l dont even know it until l am aware of it.
What are your thoughts on this?

    I was a gifted one till 21.
I have 2 higher educations. A teacher of English and German and the second one is Economy. In Ukraine it was hard to find work corresponding to your education, so that you could earn money. Know Norwegian and French a little. But Asperger's added a lot. I just want to work on my own and till some time there were no job as to be like that.
And it is hard to change my routine, to move along.
Now I am stuck between my work (13 years already) and towards Web Development (JS, Node.js, React, Python a litlle, Django) which I have learnt by myself.
I am 40. Constantly anxious. Conscription officers say, 'You are OK'. My heart, lungs, mind say, '100 BPM, we are exploding now, where am I'.
    Just stuck.
Used to have IQ135. Now it is unreal.

In a relationship, why does the neurotypical spouse have to do so much. The autisic person in The he relationship has work to do also.
    I know you say that.
I did not choose this in a spouse.

Sometimes it’s the opposite, where the autistic spouse does all the work. Autism probably doesn’t explain everything about your marital problems.
