Poison the Well is probably one of the most underrated bands of all time. That album was deep lyrically, and instrumentally they were experimenting with new sounds and ways of writing songs. Anyone that hasn't heard You Come Before You should quit whatever you are doing and listen to that album. You can get a new job later.
@TheWellDisease hell yeah. Definitely. You Come Before You has some bangers, but some of the songs have bad connotations for me so I can't listen to them (Loved Ones and The Realist for example). Love them, though. Got to see them on their reunion tour. It was a lot of fun.

Favorite trustkill albums. Tear from the red. The truth. Obsession. The Caitff Choir. Dreamers and Deadman (who else listened to nora). The satellite years. Forever. Merciless.
I love Bedlight for Blue Eyes and pretty much no one knows about them. They were so good! So glad you mentioned them. Trustkill bands are amazing. I was into them in the golden years and I still jam them.
Suffering Brings Wisdom In my early years I was in a local band and we were asked to play with Bleeding Through but it was like a 2 hour drive and I remember not liking the band (then). That same year they took off and here we are 2019 and they are still one of the biggest bands of the scene. I don’t even play music anymore. Sometimes I find myself asking “what if we had played that show with them?” Back then Mike Hasty used to handle all the WoJ booking and we shared a stage a few times with them and Brothers Keeper. In fact, my first band played our last show with Brothers Keeper and Disembodied. Good times!
Yeah for sure. I listened to it dies and bleeding through because of that recird label. Them tooth and nail and victory bands were what I was into in my hs days. Nostalgia man.
I was obsessed with Poison The Well’s Opposite of December and Bleeding Through’s Dust To Ashes during this period. I made many of trips to SF to see them and those albums still kick ass even today.
Love a lot of these bands, specifically Poison The Well. Met those guys back in 2003 at a music festival in Germany. One of my buds knew the guys and met up with them backstage. We told them that there was a US Air Base close by and asked if they wanted anything from there. First thing they immediately snapped to... Taco bell, so we drove out to Base knowing that we would miss Saves The Day, Thrice and part of Boy Sets Fire, but was well worth it. The dudes were awesome to us, funny and generally good dudes. Been fans of them and their ilk since then. Trustkill had some amazing acts and they really did have a specific sound and you always knew what a Trustkill band sounded like (In a good way)
finn, i love your videos. most of my fondest memories are from being a scene kid in upstate new york around 2002-2004. i would go to shows constantly, play shows sometimes in my own band and basically live and breath this lifestyle. watching this shit brings me back to the good old days. i still jam most these trustkill bands on my iPod to this day. I'm 34 now and none of my friends listen to this stuff. thanks to your vids i'm able to find new bands like turnstile and vein. keep it up man. i can get lost in these videos for hours.
I don't know if you read comments, but I am a similar age to you. I was growing up in my parents house when Trustkill Records had a functioning website and had bands such as Eighteen Visions, PTW, hopeskill on their label. I remember saving up my money and buying PTW CDs and posters, I can't remember what else I purchased. They sent me either a free pin, cd or poster. Wow, my memory is terrible. It's great that you made this video. Its highly nostalgic for me. I remember singing Nerdy in the hallways of my high school.
Trustkill also signed Fightstar in '06-'07. Their story's fucking fascinating to me. Former boy bander gets fed up with the pop industry and starts a post-hardcore band. They had a really killer debut record too
The Opposite of December has always be my favorite album! Not only the music that was amazing, but its something about the album artwork that is just beautiful! All of the best TrustKill bands came through the Glass House in Pomona, so those were the good old days.
Thanks for making this video. I saw Roses Are Red open for Millencolin a week before I graduated high school in 2005. Their performance was electric and they were the band that introduced me to Trustkill. I got really into It Dies Today, too. I still listen to The Caitiff Choir regularly. Keep up the awesome work.
I loved TK records! I preordered ‘The Caitiff Choir’ from It Dies Today my senior year in high school in my Digital design class. It was DOPE. PTW was another huge band in my area (south Florida) along with NFG and a smaller but amazing band called DKLIMB I think kind of shaped the local/bigger music scene from that time frame. Finn, I’d LOVE to see a video like this on Eulogy Recordings.
This was an amazing video, Trustkill did got me into bands like Bleeding Through in 08 then to Throwdown, PTW, 18V and so on and so forth, never forget the awesome records, EPs and splits this label did
Great piece, I listened to a lot of trustkill bands late 90s early/mid 00s, Harvest, Nora, Most Precious Blood, etc. I get why a lot of people didn't like Brothers Keeper but I loved them.
Killer vid my guy! I had no idea about the early years of trust kill. Just the last decade 2000-2010. So cool! Insane how influential all of those bands are on hardcore/metalcore.
Thank you for talking about Poison the Well. I asked in a comment once for you to touch on them and was really happy when I heard you talk about them! I remember also mentioning HORSE the Band in that comment, and even though you already discussed the whole trancecore thing in that Attack! Attack! video, and gave a shoutout to Enter Shikari, I would be interested in a video on why Nintendocore never took off. I was a 15-16 year old kid in Romania that was really into retro gaming when I first heard HtB and the gimmick really clicked with me. And that band kinda got me into metalcore (at the time I kinda only knew about nu metal being a thing). That made me wonder if other oddball/gimmicky/novelty/niche bands, like iwrestledabearonce, Okilly Dokilly, etc have acted as entry-level bands into hardcore/metal/heavy genres in general, for other people?
Here's a topic: what were your people's first bands that got you into certain genres? Like, my first skramz band was Circle Takes the Square. An older high school friend told me about them, saying they were a real emo band lol. That band then got me into Converge, which got me into Dillinger Escape Plan. On the metal side of things, Mastodon and the band Isis got me into sludge metal/post-metal.
I like that you brought up Walls Of Jericho. They where on of those bands that I saw dozens of times in shitty little venues. I was pretty mind blowing to then see them play at Ozzfest and see their videos on MTV just a few years later.
As someone who went to Hellfest back in 2000, I can say that it ranks very high among the many live music performances I've been to. Never heard of Poison The Well and was blown away after seeing them. Also the first day of the fest was cancelled due to issues with the original venue and still had a great time. Great work on this vid!
Thank you so much for the truskill episode! I've been jamming Poison the Well since I was in middle school and they're one of my favorite bands of all time and deserve so much recognition. I'm 30 now and still listen to them on a daily basis. Along with Alexisonfire who I also think deserve so much credit!
I skipped out on my High School Prom to go to Hellfest '03 with my friends. Trustkill was seemingly at the top of the world at that time. Great to see coverage of the bands from that era.
Awesome video Finn - really appreciate all of the historical and behind the scenes looks at a lot of the I enjoyed in my younger days. Opposite of December and Tear from the Red were two really influential albums for me and my friends in the early 2000's. Both records are still getting lots of playing time to this day. Keep up the great work.
Would you ever do a video on Coheed and Cambria? Coming up in the woodstock/NY hardcore/emo scene up to making some of the most ambitious prog projects around?
Man I had completely forgotten about It Dies Today. I definitely came around in the later years but I do remember seeing that Trustkill logo all over the place. It's great to hear stories from this time in music. As a young music fan you usually start out listening to current music and then dive into really classic stuff so these videos definitely fill a big gap in between.
Awesome video! It brings me back to the late 90s when I was living in Vegas and my band played a bunch of shows with some of these bands. We played with Throwdown and Bleeding Through at the Sanctuary and Eighteen Visions at Tremors.
Do a video on Victory Records! Atreyu, Silverstein, Hawthorne Heights, among many others. Huge hardcore/screamo label who would also give you a sample CD with different songs from bands on their label. Great marketing concept!
Your video really brought some nice memories like traveling by bus from my hometown (Monterrey, Mexico) all the way to Syracuse, NY for the Hellfest 2001. Then again going to Hellfest 2002 and 2004 in Jersey. Trustkill actually delivered some great records and bands as well as the Hellfests Festivals back in the day.
Wow, seeing BFMV and Eighteen Visions supporting 36 Crazyfists in 2004 set me on a path to discovering It Dies Today, Hopesfall and everything. Yup, trustkill probably got me on the hardcore conveyor. Good vid dude.
Dude, you have encouraged me to start checking out a number of bands I would've never otherwise looked into. Thanks for the great videos and keep up the good work!
i know this video is old but i felt like commenting after just watching... my introduction to trustkill was bleeding through who had a write up in thrasher around 2004 or 2005 and i found their music on myspace and I saw they were coming to Jacksonville,FL and saw they were touring with It Dies Today so i checked them out and instantly fell in love with that sound. I still jam The Caitiff Choir in 2021. That was my first real show i ever attended and it was an insane experience and introduced me to a lot of what i like to this day
Finn, you knocked it out of the park once again with this video. Fantastic watch. Trustkill was an awesome label. I interned for them in my senior year of college. Josh was a really nice guy as was his staff. Great experience for sure. Still a huge Most Precious Blood and Poison The Well fan and I have a much larger appreciation for their earlier catalog now in my older age, especially Turmoil - The Process Of. What a banger!
You should one of these on how Solid State Records impacted heavy music, it ties in w/ your Christian metal/hardcore/metalcore and it still a pretty major player to this day
THANK GOD FOR TRUSTKILL! I found “The Opposite Of December” clicking around on Amazon back in the early 00s and the rest was history. I was so happy to find this whole genre/scene because the radio was so saturated with pop punk that it made me feel OLD even though I was only in my 20s. I spent most of the 00s listening to stuff like this and underground rap from Rhymesayers.
My old band flew up to Alaska (of all places) and opened up for Walls of Jericho for two back to back shows in 2015. And they still kill it with stage presence and raw sound. Those shows were a lot of fun. Cool to see a bit of how they were part of musical history.
Awesome video that brought back a ton of memories! My friends and I went to HellFest in 2003 and had a great time seeing a ton of bands over the course of 3 days. We even randomly made it onto that years DVD,which was a cool surprise!
I was so happy to hear you mention the almighty Affiance! My all time favorite band. Wish they would come back! Great video, as always! Bleeding Through is what got me into hardcore/metalcore back when they opened for BFMV in like 07. Great times!
And It Dies Today is hands down my favorite Trustkill band haha. I wish I could like this video more than once, it REALLY hit home. Syracuse, NY in 2005-2009 was practically run by Trustkill bands, and frankly, I miss the hell out of it
so glad i found this channel, as someone who got into metalcore and surrounding genres in the mid 2000's its very interesting and informative to hear how it came about and what influenced it all :)
Trustkill was my favorite label growing up in the California hardcore scene. I always looked up to the big Eighteen Visions. Bleeding Through and Throwdown. I'm glad there's people keeping the memories alive from the time period. That was such an important time in life. Shaped who I am today.

Watch this and tell me theres a reason why they were very popular until nick fucked his voice up through a horrible drinking problem
th-cam.com/video/hKmFIfMZJyY/w-d-xo.html
man, they didn't fizzle out in my eyes . think SIRENS was way better than Caitiff Choir. and the third record with the new singer (Lividity) was heavy and fun as hell. I wish they were still putting stuff out. not a bad record, IMO
@@M_reapr i mean, i saw them in person myself and he was awful. i guess it was after his drinking problem, but i heard him firsthand. i can't remember what year ozzfest it was, but they played the small stage early in the day, and it was so bad they got booed off. just telling it like it is.
Trustkill was my gateway label and I had all the Hellfest and Bleeding Through dvd. Super stoked you coved this. Also, Most Precious Blood was a big favorite who doesn’t get the hype they deserve in my opinion.
You are a must watch. Great job, and anyone who puts respect on PTWs name is good in my book. ❤
Don’t you ever damn think about stopping this type of content. It’s pretty valuable man.
Opposite of December
OMG. Memory unlocked: Bedlight for Blue Eyes! Loved The Dawn album!
This is perfect. I feel sorry for the kids that didnt get to experience this growing up in the tristate area in the 90s and early 2000s. 🤘
Wow! This was a great vid. I remember being a freshman in high school and sneaking onto the ptw website in 05. A pretty cool site for the time....great memories
Favorite trustkill albums. Tear from the red. The truth. Obsession. The Caitff Choir. Dreamers and Deadman (who else listened to nora). The satellite years. Forever. Merciless.
Yoooooo huge Nora fan over here. Stoked to see someone actually remembers them.
Nora!
Loser’s intuition was a way better Nora album. “Nobody takes pictures of the drummer” was life changing
verajune I agree. That album was iconic amongst my group of friends!
I love Bedlight for Blue Eyes and pretty much no one knows about them. They were so good! So glad you mentioned them. Trustkill bands are amazing. I was into them in the golden years and I still jam them.
seeing Walls of Jericho and Bleeding Through at Ozzfest '06 was my introduction to metalcore. Haven't looked back since!
Another great vid!!!!
Sometimes I find myself asking “what if we had played that show with them?”
Back then Mike Hasty used to handle all the WoJ booking and we shared a stage a few times with them and Brothers Keeper. In fact, my first band played our last show with Brothers Keeper and Disembodied.
Good times!
Yeah for sure. I listened to it dies and bleeding through because of that recird label. Them tooth and nail and victory bands were what I was into in my hs days. Nostalgia man.
Wow. I’m 26 and just now learning The Poison was on TrustKill.
Gimme that Emmure video! Ha. Thanks for the content as always.
Yeah me too. I don't even know The Poison on Trustkill
I was obsessed with Poison The Well’s Opposite of December and Bleeding Through’s Dust To Ashes during this period. I made many of trips to SF to see them and those albums still kick ass even today.
nice recap dude - have to check out some of these bands
Happy to hear you mention Bleeding Through
Love a lot of these bands, specifically Poison The Well.
Trustkill and ipods... it was a simpler time!
Victory Records next please.
Which sucks now
@@johnpollaro8059 missing the point much?
Victory has always been anything more than a trend label. They went from producinh pop punk to ska to metalcore to emo. No real identity
higler I know exactly what you meant but I was just sharing my opinion of them now.thats all
@@JL-tj9hi tony brummel also screwed a lot of bands over hes had numerous lawsuits against him
So happy Hopesfall have popped up on one of your videos!
I haven't watched it yet, but I already think it's dope
i bet you also pre-order EA's games, mate? 8)
@@alexandersokolov4992 I don't
I don't know if you read comments, but I am a similar age to you. I was growing up in my parents house when Trustkill Records had a functioning website and had bands such as Eighteen Visions, PTW, hopeskill on their label. I remember saving up my money and buying PTW CDs and posters, I can't remember what else I purchased. They sent me either a free pin, cd or poster. Wow, my memory is terrible.
It's great that you made this video. Its highly nostalgic for me. I remember singing Nerdy in the hallways of my high school.
I read all of them!
Trustkill also signed Fightstar in '06-'07. Their story's fucking fascinating to me. Former boy bander gets fed up with the pop industry and starts a post-hardcore band. They had a really killer debut record too
Glad someone remembers Fightstar!! We loved that record. And Charlie was such a great guy. His story was inspiring for sure.
The Opposite of December has always be my favorite album! Not only the music that was amazing, but its something about the album artwork that is just beautiful! All of the best TrustKill bands came through the Glass House in Pomona, so those were the good old days.
I've been waiting on this trustkill records video for months thanks a bunch Finn
Thanks Joey!!
Hopesfall's song The End of an Era still holds up. The shoegaze aesthetics in their music were exactly on point and super fresh at that time.
I named my dog Nora after the band. She died.....I shouldve sent flowers.
BKs vocals are rough but everything else was great about them
Killer vid my guy! I had no idea about the early years of trust kill. Just the last decade 2000-2010. So cool! Insane how influential all of those bands are on hardcore/metalcore.
The Caitiff Choir still goes so hard!
Absolutely a classic
That took my heavy virginity.
Absolute killer album
Shit holes like pharoah's
Glad to see you mention it dies today. They were one of my favorite bands from trustkill
Jesus... I laid my hands on many of those flyers... gonna go cry now.
I remember ordering some band shirt from Hot Topic and I got a Trustkill compilation cd and that forever changed my music world.
PTW's "Apathy is a Cold Body" was my emo anthem back in '06
What a fucking song!
You try so damn hard to be... so happy
Great song/ great band...?
Is that the " I apologize ..Apologize..." song? I love that song
@@jayybirdberg6545 that's The Realist. same album (you come before you)
As someone who went to Hellfest back in 2000, I can say that it ranks very high among the many live music performances I've been to. Never heard of Poison The Well and was blown away after seeing them. Also the first day of the fest was cancelled due to issues with the original venue and still had a great time. Great work on this vid!
You need a vid on From Autumn To Ashes and how they changed the game.
They were good and influential, but I wouldn't go so far as to say they changed the game
Yah PTW changed the game. Plus FATA does not hold up at all.
@@fearforger
One of my favorite shows of all time were FATA and Throwdown when they toured together.
Great story, bro!
NO RAGRETS! Ha Ha. That's great.
Thank you!
Would you ever do a video on Coheed and Cambria? Coming up in the woodstock/NY hardcore/emo scene up to making some of the most ambitious prog projects around?
Chris Stroud this guy has the right idea
I saw them in 2002? with Shai Hulud, Unearth, Underoath and Zao. Finns dream show. Needless to say, the show blew my mind. @@Celicagame13
You should do a video on Atreyu, I feel like they don't get enough recognition for their contribution to the sound of metalcore
Threeper210 atreyu 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah their first record was incredible, second one was pretty good too. They really shit the bed after that unfortunately.
Great marketing concept!
yes! victory records!!
Victory did get a lot of great bands out there, but they sure screwed a ton of them bad such as Hawthorne Heights and A Day To Remember
Dont forget 'The Bled'!!
How Victory ruined themselves?
Your video really brought some nice memories like traveling by bus from my hometown (Monterrey, Mexico) all the way to Syracuse, NY for the Hellfest 2001. Then again going to Hellfest 2002 and 2004 in Jersey. Trustkill actually delivered some great records and bands as well as the Hellfests Festivals back in the day.
i remember the day
the sun went out
it halted all progression with all its beauty
it just sacrificed
we fell apart.
As I ask
Why ask these questions?
Sincerely yours I've disowned you
Wow, seeing BFMV and Eighteen Visions supporting 36 Crazyfists in 2004 set me on a path to discovering It Dies Today, Hopesfall and everything.
Yup, trustkill probably got me on the hardcore conveyor. Good vid dude.
Do a "How Hydra Head Records Changed the Game" video! I think that would be interesting
They were a brilliant label
Dude, you have encouraged me to start checking out a number of bands I would've never otherwise looked into. Thanks for the great videos and keep up the good work!
Some members of Brother's Keeper are in a new band called Human Animal. Highly recommend 👍
You know where I can find any of Brother's Keeper's music? Not on Spotify :(
Bob Ward it’s on Spotify for me
THANK YOU FOR GIVING THE OPPOSITE OF DECEMBER THE CREDIT IT DESERVES!!!!
I would search hellfest on limewire every single day when I was in middle school.
The only search that matters tbh
i know this video is old but i felt like commenting after just watching... my introduction to trustkill was bleeding through who had a write up in thrasher around 2004 or 2005 and i found their music on myspace and I saw they were coming to Jacksonville,FL and saw they were touring with It Dies Today so i checked them out and instantly fell in love with that sound.
Hey man!!! Thanks for all the kind words.
You should one of these on how Solid State Records impacted heavy music, it ties in w/ your Christian metal/hardcore/metalcore and it still a pretty major player to this day
Oh why not? Also a lot of these Solid State bands also appeared on a game, Killing Floor 2. That would be a nice idea!
Solid State is one of the best labels out there
THANK GOD FOR TRUSTKILL!
I really enjoy historical analysis videos like this. Keep killin it, Finn!
Thank you!
This is so goddamn good. Thank you Finn. I feel like without Trustkill, I wouldn't have gotten into Hardcore.
Hellfest in my hometown. Man, file that under things I would kill to have back. Another banger of a video, Finn! Well done!
And It Dies Today is hands down my favorite Trustkill band haha. I wish I could like this video more than once, it REALLY hit home. Syracuse, NY in 2005-2009 was practically run by Trustkill bands, and frankly, I miss the hell out of it
I bought a Trustkill records sampler at Sounds of the Underground. Less than a year later I saw many of those bands on the Dunn and Don Vito tour
so glad i found this channel, as someone who got into metalcore and surrounding genres in the mid 2000's its very interesting and informative to hear how it came about and what influenced it all :)
Trustkill was my favorite label growing up in the California hardcore scene. I always looked up to the big Eighteen Visions. Bleeding Through and Throwdown. I'm glad there's people keeping the memories alive from the time period. That was such an important time in life. Shaped who I am today.
