  • Ever wondered how the F-35B can take off and land vertically? In this video, we dive into the fascinating lift fan system that makes it possible. Learn about the three main components - the lift fan, roll posts, and 3-bearing swivel nozzle - and how they work together to provide the necessary thrust. Discover the impressive capabilities of the F-35B and how it achieves a total of 40,000 pounds of thrust when hovering. Don't miss this exciting explanation of advanced aviation technology!

    fun fact: Yakolev was the first one to make a sistem like this, a "early/protoype version" with the Yak-38, and the ACTUAL thing with the Yak-41, whom's blueprints and such were sold to lockheed, meaning russia quasi-created the jet they fear the most

    • @pootmahgoots8482
      @pootmahgoots8482 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Lockheed financed the latter part of the development of the Yak 141 in a partnership with Yakovlev because funds had run out and they needed help to further development so in exchange for helping with development Lockheed acquired the design of the 141 when Yakovlev scrapped the design.
      However, McDonnell Douglas had the Harrier II out in 1978 when the Yak-141 didn't take its first flight until 1987. So it's not like the US was new to STOVL aircraft when the 141 came around.

But no one fears the Harrier because it isn’t stealth and isn’t going to be dodging 6 Stinger in a row while hovering about like in MW2(2009) (that Team Death Match round on Overpass was ridiculous). The Russians fear the F35 purely for stealth and electronic warfare capabilities, it will NEVER use hover in actual combat.

      The 'smaller' LH type carriers that the US Marine Corps operate from, (USS Tarawa, USS Beleau Wood, USS Saipan, etc) don't have catapults on their flight decks.
      Because the ships I've mentioned, also carry several US Marine 'Helo' (Helicopter) Squadrons, and Harrier jump-jet Squadrons. Those Harrier Squadrons are being trsnsitioned to the 'B' (Marine) version of the F-35 multi-role Strike Fighter.

The airframe, landing gear, that's all got to be reinforced to the point that it can withstand a carrier landing, let's be honest. Now, I don't know about it having a tail hook, but at the very least I'm pretty sure it could handle a carrier landing otherwise

    So what I dont understand is how the lift fan produces 20,000lb thrust in addition to 20 from the rear nozzle for the total of 40 when the F135 in military power can only produce around 29,000? In full reheat it can produce just over 40 but that boost is only at rear nozzle. So can someone help me and explain how is the lift fan making 20 (I accept that it must to balance the thrust front to rear and have enough to lift the aircraft but I sont know how). Is it just highly efficient and uses gearbox to optimise mass flow at a very narrow and known operating window (hover at sea level basically) to generate thrust much more efficiently that the engine core can manage over the wide operating range that it has to tolerate?

      @Typexviiib 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I realize this is a month old post, but ive got an answer to your question.
      The f35b is designed to support amphibious landings. It has a combat radius of 500 km with a strike loadout, thats 4 1k lb jdams and 2 amraams.
      Compare that to a super hornet with a 390km range with 4 jdams, two sidewinders, 2 1800 liter tanks, and targeting pods.
      The f35b has more range, more maneuverability, and more speed than the f18 with comparable load-outs, while using less fuel.
      Your number is wrong. The f35b loses 33 percent of its fuel capacity compared to the f35c and only 25 percent of its capacity compared to the f35a.
      External fuel not only ruins stealth, it also severely impacts speed, acceleration, turn rates, etc. for example a clean f16 can do 9g turns all day, but it cant pull more than 6 gs with the above loadouts. The f35b can pull 7 gs with any internal weapons load out. This is because theres no drag, the weapons don’t effect wing loading, and the weapons are carried center of mass.

    I love everything about the new F-35B except for one thing, I don’t like the way that the main flap directly behind the pilot when it opens up facing forward. Seems to me that the aeronautical engineering department should have turned it facing towards the rear. Because you’re going to go forward correct? It’s the same principle on your vehicle, if you’re going forward and the hood fly’s up, what’s going to happen? Same thing applies to the JSF. It will still get the same exact amount of air to the fan motor, except it won’t look so retarded when you’re going forward

      1. It's not going to go fast
      2. Even if it was, it is going to scoop more air this way
