This game made such a impact on my life. I would have never played music if it was not for this game entering my life. I still remember being 8 years old, and being given this game by my grandfather (FFIII on the SNES). It was scaring me because of the moogle holding a dagger on the cover but I still wanted to try it. It was a preplayed copy, so when I turned on the SNES, there were games that were already present. I loaded one, in the world of ruin, and "Searchin for Friends" started playing. I still remember that feeling that got me when I took the Falcon to fly with that song in the background. 4 Years later, I would learn all these songs ;p. Sorry about that bit of life story, I felt like I needed to share that with other people who loved that game as much as I did.
I have a story too. I was about 5 or 6, and my older sister contracted lice from a friend. I remember my mom washing every item of clothing and every sheet, and for the first time in the game I was about to face Atma Weapon. So imagine the song, "Floating Continent" which to this day is still hilarious to think about, given the memory and context. Here, Kefka is about to rip the world asunder, and all my mom can think about is lice and shampoo. Lol. But seriously, Uematsu did the same for me. I'm not much, something of an amateur. I wouldn't have pursued music but for his compositions. Love the man. And you too, sorry for the two years late and way too long comment. Thanks for sharing your experience. If you haven't, check out Patti Rudisill and Erutan. They are amazing. th-cam.com/video/hMvZoc-Gwh8/w-d-xo.html, th-cam.com/video/qmbgCBZ86z4/w-d-xo.html
That's pretty cool... seeing the game for the first time in the world of ruin at 8 years old. How long did you play that before realizing you had to create a fresh new game?
@@MichaelButlerC Not long. But I was really confused when I did made a new game. I was used to the open world of the end game content. I did not speak english back then and I was extremely confused (and frustrated as I did not understand how to beat the first boss in the mines of Narshe). Eventually, I made it to the first time you leave narshe and, again, I was taken away by the music (terra's theme).
I heard final fantasy V is extremely good but I've never put aside the time to play it. Same goes w/ final fantasy VII and onwards, I keep playing like 3-4 hours in and just lose interest because I remember how good final fantasy VI was and I feel sad that the series changed so quick like that. I'm a minority here, I know, but the change in art and story from VI to VII just upsets me so much I can't even play FFVII, but one day I will, hopefully. (it's kind of draining too since you already know what the final boss looks like lol)
If some say that people love FF6 the most due to nostalgia, I played it on the GBA in my early 20's and I immediately fell in love with it, and now I consider it the best FF and possibly best JRPG of all time. It's just a really good game.
Same here, I played it in my early 20's on the PSX port. I learned to read by playing FF7 (really!), but 6 is a stronger game in just about every way (music excepted, FF7 is the greatest video game score ever). Two of the GOATs, as far as I'm concerned.
Best RPG of all time? loooooooooooooooool. FF6 is really good, and it's influence was obviously one of the factors that kept JRPGs coming to western markets during a huge lapse in the games. IN terms of the quality of the writing and the themes challenged in the story, it was a very bizarre game for its time. It was astounding in 1994 --- in 1995 you had Chronotrigger which is another amazing RPG. Both easily in the top 10 most influential and easily the best of their era/ Best of all time, no, not by a long shot.
In January, 2015, I had this lifetime opportunity to attend a performance from the Distant Worlds Tour Orchestra. It was in New Jersey, USA, and for me it was a big deal; every single South American knows that this type of shows are almost impossible to happen down here. Anyways, I was there, the curtains were opened, and Nobuo Uematsu was in the first row. I was like 10 rows behind, and the ticket was a salty USD 120. Whatever, what is the price for the best night of your entire life as a gamer? Then, Nobuo was invited to the stage, then started playing on the piano Dark World, from FF6. I am typing this now and crying almost the same I cried that day, and I didn't have to feel ashamed at all. Even though I was probably most emotional than most of the audience because of this single tune and my endless affection towards FF6, I knew that everybody else had their own favorite FF tune to cry on. Thanks, Mr. Uematsu, for making this world a little bit softer, more livable. I believe that a part of the man I am today is thanks to these feelings I have felt my entire life playing Final Fantasy.
More than 20 years ago, when I became 12 years old, I was given this masterpiece as a birthday gift from my parents. I will never forget the excitement that I had experienced after swtiching on SNES this software is installed. And now, I'm happy to share that excitement with people around the world. Thank you for making this movie. From Japan.
I got it for Christmas, from my grandparents when I was 11! Its still. Y all time favorite game! I'm pretty confident that I had over 270 hours, on my main account! They also bought the game guide for me! And I got that awesome glitch, that gave me a lot of extra items! Some of them the best in the game. I believe that I had 9 Atma Weapons, as well as multiple Gengi Gloves and Offerings! I leveled my characters all to at least 75, in the desert, where the Cactaurs were! I wrecked through just about everything at that point! We have FF6 on our SNES Mini. I need to play through it again. I also put a lot of hours in FF12, and had a lot of fun doing so!
I gotta say I got major chills when Celes jumped off the cliff. It was crazy effective with this music. I've started listening to TPR music on Spotify at work.
One of the best games ever, one of the best stories ever told. Only fitting that it should have some of the most beautiful music ever written. Brings tears to my eyes and takes me back to when I was a teen. Anyone who doesn't believe video games can be art has never played this game.
The best thing about this game is that the older you get and the more life experience you attain, the game takes on even more meaning, the emotions hit harder, and put that with nostalgia……Magic! Pure magic. And just when you think you’ve seen it all, sometimes you missed something. I never knew Celes could actually save Cid until so much later. Things like that. I’m going to find my game, or maybe I’ll finally try the iOS version, I just love my controllers I’m old school. ❤ I think if they did a VII-style over-remake I wouldn’t play it. It’s absolutely unnecessary. This game is perfect all on its own. Yes Treasure of the Rudras was the last snes RPG by square (went unreleased but there’s well done translations available), but this imho is the last great full RPG for that wonderful system that gave me so much joy.
After spending the past hour listening to your Chrono Trigger soundtrack and now this, I am ridiculously impressed. You've captured the feel of the original material faithfully while imbuing it with so much emotion. Wonderful work.
I was writing while listening to this. At 50:36, I stopped writing. I love Terra's Theme so much, and this is the best version of it I've ever heard. Kudos.
You are criminally under viewed. Your take on the music gets me through my work days often enough... or gives me peace on my drive home. My only wish is you had an album for FFIV as well.
To me, I have a bigger attachment to the ffvi than all the other ones. Terra being a favorite of all the franchise characters, I often felt that her character hits home to me. Her heritage and her sense of belonging, the fact that she had a detachment to all sides of the world made her more or less tragic in a sense. I love how even in the end, she didn't come to end up with anyone. Not because I don't want her in a ship, but because she was the first of the few characters who somehow found herself and found confidence in herself and not be emotionally dependent on someone else. I know this is an unpopular opinion. But of all the melancholic characters, Terra's to me felt more assuring compared to Cloud's melancholy or even for the likes of other tragic characters that I've played in other ff games (played iv, v, vi, vii and seen the gameplay of x, xii and xv)
TheSingingBUn Not an unpopular opinion at all! You'd be surprised with the VAST number of people - more specifically older gamers - who prefer Terra over Cloud and 6 over 7. 6 is more realistic and elegantly down to earth, and I believe that's why.
Why don't they make video games like this anymore? It has a great complex story and an extremely sophisticated musical score that actually makes you feel it. It was challenging and you actually had to figure things out not like in new games with tutorials and marks babying you all the way through. Video games are so easy and predictable these days I cant get hooked on them like I did on this one.
You need to check out Undertale, Transistor, To the Moon or Life is Strange. I assure you, they still make games with complex stories (and I'm glad they do!). Hell, Undertale even parodies Celes' musical performance.
There are good games, but Squeenix certainly isn't making any of them. The more control Tetsuya Nomura has over the direction of the company, the worse it gets.
Interactive Stories sprites don't exist in modern games anymore so the kind of storytelling in this game can't be fully replicated, which is why remakes can't just be an update, they have to change it
Only idiots say things like this. There are plenty of genuinely challenging games out there. Are they the most popular titles? No. The games of the past had abysmal quality control - Final Fantasy 6 was unique in that it restored the JRPG's popularity to Western Audiences, because previous installments were precisely that: the conveyance was so shit you had no idea what to do, or where to go, and you were often left speaking to every NPC in every town, until you had exhausted your options. The games of today are hard because they're well thought-out. Difficult games in the past were usually due to limitations of the technology at the time, and the fact no one had any real idea what they were doing. Anyone who says "why don't they make video games like this anymore?" clearly hasn't dug much into the medium.
@@KupoKaachan yeah but I was referring to videogames in general. The only enjoyable games in modern times were well made difficult ones like the souls games, that actually posed a challenge and didn't lead you by the hand.
This is so good. In particular the cover of "From that day on..." I remember playing the game and finding that song a little jarring and obnoxious when I went into the towns in the World of Ruin. But your version of it is so much more somber and understated and it really makes me realize how nice of a song it is.
Aww, that bums me out that you don't like the original "From That Day On." It's such a great relief when you hear it for the first time - your first indication that things are gonna be alright. It's a great little song to rally around.
I loved how not only one character was the main who the entire game revolved around... Celes, Terra, Locke, Sabin, and so they all such great stories that intertwined and were amazing each.. and can't forget about one of the best villians you will ever encounter. The opening scene of Magitek heading to Narshe still gives me chills when i think about all that is going to happen.
I found real life Magicite in the form of this video. I still have my SNES cartridge of FFIII. This game and music means a lot to me. How in all my time searching for FF3 music and covers of FF3 music has this channel not come up in any of searches???!! Instant fan and subscriber! This is beautiful!
My favorite piece from this melancholy remake is "From That Day On". The original piece is so melancholy already, and you did a good job remaking it along with everything else. Thanks from Portland, OR.
I promise... Relm's Song is amazing. Gives me goosebumps hearing it. The story between her and Shadow made the series for me. Had to beat it a 2nd and 3rd time to make sure I didn't miss anything. Working on my 4th time currently on my channel. I just Love this game and TPR... keep up the good work. This is amazing!
Ok take my money... Wet in tears... The best game ever... And thanks for this masterpiece, it takes me back in time. I totally love every single aspect of this game.
"You must cast off the anguish you've been harboring inside for so long... Today I set your heart free. You must learn to love yourself again, and regain your self respect." Manly tears...
This is the most masterful collection ever... I can't believe its all in one video.. Thank you so much for this. I'm sorry but I need to rip it in case it ever gets taken down
You, Kyle Landry and a few others inspired me to pick up the piano recently. I'll be starting my own channel soon, but it will be focused more on just piano learning vlogs and other gaming stuff rather than amazing covers, because frankly, I couldn't cover squat right now. But seriously, your Chrono Trigger and FFVII albums in particular really got me inspired to give this a shot. Bought a Yamaha YPG-235 to start out, along with an M-Audio SP2 sustain pedal. I can play the basic arpeggios for FFVII's Prelude, which, of course, had to be absolute first thing I tried to learn. I always had the inspiration to learn piano because of the original music in my favorite video games, but you folks sent me over the edge. I NEEDED to buy a piano and start learning. Thanks! :)
Dark world was my favorite piece of the FFVI soundtrack. It captured what had just happened to the world in such an intense way. I love your rendition of it and this soundtrack as a whole!
I played ff6 for the first time mere months ago and thought it was an absolute masterclass in musical storytelling and thought it had a genuinely perfect soundtrack all round, so I was absolutely speechless when you actually managed to surpass so many of these tracks. Gonna listen to everything you've ever made now xD
Das Juda My favorite game of all time. Idk which version you played, but this is the definitive version for me right here: www.romhacking.net/hacks/1386/ It's the SNES version but with uncensored, with bug fixes, and dash button if needed.
I emulated the original SNES version and also have the GBA version which I hear has new summons and stuff so I'm excited to give that a try, but I was unaware of any censoring honestly, does this version work with zsnes?
Das Juda Not sure about ZSnes, but try it however you can, because this version is the ultimate one. I have the original SNES cartridge, and a repro cart w/ this version... and I only play this version.
Das Juda Also, in my opinion, the GBA version isn't worth it. Yes, you get a extra content, but it's mostly irrelevant and the GBA screws up the graphics and the soundtrack.
@TPR I would also like to say that you have done this game a beautiful tribute here. Epitaph was my favorite scene in the game, and you did it amazing justice. Thank you.
FF6 was the game that got me into the Squaresoft series. I didn't realize how unique the music was in various location and scenarios until I listened to the soundtrack. Definitely was a masterpiece stuffed into a 16-bit cartridge.
So this rendition of 'Dark World' has me coming back again, and again. I have NEVER heard a version of this song that so perfectly captures the atmosphere of the story that's happening when the player first hears this song. The gentle rolling ambience in the beginning really cranks up the despair and then the subtle bell hits in the background are like the reminder that there are still people alive, and trying to survive, but the indistinct nature of the ring (nearly covered over with the main melody) again highlights the loneliness. I can hear the bell, I know there are other people, but I just can't find them. Just a masterpiece of a rendition of the song. So well done.
Wow! I went to the orchestra showing distant worlds. Mi wished they could have played more of these songs. Maybe not a final fantasy 6-sentric show, as many people love other music from various games, but a few more would have been very much loved by me at least. Fabulous!
Always wonderful to listen to this! There's nothing quite like a TPR album - capturing the tragedy and heartache of the story, but not forgetting the glimpses of hope that find a way to shine through.
Cyan's theme always gets me. Cyan Garamonde, faithful retainer to his family's liege, with the courage and strength of a hundred men...who finds that his greatest challenge is not in front of his sword but within his own soul as he must forgive himself for the deaths of his King, his family and his country. A noble samurai with no leader who comes to find beauty in the world and an appreciation for machines and things other than war. This entire soundtrack's leitmotifs are as instantly recognizable and release as much emotion as any famous classical piece. This is the OST of my entire childhood.
I have... Few words. Expressing what I feel with them doesn't feel like they're enough. FF6 defined me. Defined my tastes, my art, my love of music, my love of stories, my love of tragic, yet hopeful outcomes. I have clinical depression - very likely more things that plague me, and feeling out my emotions is incredibly difficult. But music... music is the medium that brings them out, and helps me explore them. Thank you, for these. Words are not enough to describe how your covers of the game that affected me the most have helped me understand, and push through my sorrows.
i'm such an avid fan of the old final fantasies ... this is hauntingly nostalgic. i've played ff6 literally over a dozen times, and i think this is going to make me play it again. :D
4 years later, I'm *still* playing this for my students while they work. :) My colleagues have often asked me what is the wonderful music playing in my classroom. So, I shared the link with them. Now, I can walk down the halls of my school and often hear this, as well as other TPR albums, playing. It's wonderful. :)
I think this is my favourite FF album that you've put together so far. Might have a lot to do with the base work as well, but I often come back here to listen to your arrangements while I do stuff on my PC. Loving them.
This is actually very good. I have heard many different renditions for the soundtrack or Final Fantasy 6, but I couldn't find any interesting enough to hold onto. This is something I can listen to for days. Great work!
You did it. You properly orchestrated the score in such a way that maintains the feel of the original SNES rendition. The vast majority of orchestral versions, even official ones, don't get the tempo and rhythm right and change the whole thing. You did it. Bravo, and thank you.
well done... one of the best soundtracks and this rendition is epic! i put my baby to sleep with this playlist... my wife and baby fall asleep because of the pure beauty and soothing melody, where i close my eyes and picture walking through the snow on my magitech

Quality of content and popularity are inversely proportional.... barring exceptions that come from time to time

Dont worry, Terra is my favorite character too.
(tactics vii viii ix x x2 xiii) I have v and xii but haven't started playing yet,,,
@@2010MrIsaac I prefer Terra and vi over cloud and vii and haven't even played vi,,,
Why don't they make video games like this anymore?
Why do these RPGs have so beautiful music? It touches the emotions. :')
That's how final fantasy games are,,, pure bliss,,,
This is so good. In particular the cover of "From that day on..." I remember playing the game and finding that song a little jarring and obnoxious when I went into the towns in the World of Ruin. But your version of it is so much more somber and understated and it really makes me realize how nice of a song it is.
YES. This might be the best rcover in this album and certainly the best version of the song I've ever heard.
Aww, that bums me out that you don't like the original "From That Day On."
It's such a great relief when you hear it for the first time - your first indication that things are gonna be alright. It's a great little song to rally around.
Lee Hearts I love that song so much that I had the string quartet play it at my wedding reception. :) It was amazing!
Ugh the scene of Celes attempting suicide.....such heavy stuff for a 10 year old me. This game is still one of the best ever made.
it's the best RPG of all time
I loved how not only one character was the main who the entire game revolved around... Celes, Terra, Locke, Sabin, and so they all such great stories that intertwined and were amazing each.. and can't forget about one of the best villians you will ever encounter. The opening scene of Magitek heading to Narshe still gives me chills when i think about all that is going to happen.
Still getting those good vibes 2 years later!
Funny how decades later Rachel's song still gets me all emotional...
Thank you for this. I’ve never cared much for “re-created” Final Fantasy music, but this is just another level. The feels ❤️
I got chills listening to Awakening.
Ugh... even just watching these little cut scenes again made me tear up. Such a great game and great remix of an amazing score.
best video game soundtrack of all time, wonderful. Great use of the final medley in your compositions.
My favorite piece from this melancholy remake is "From That Day On". The original piece is so melancholy already, and you did a good job remaking it along with everything else. Thanks from Portland, OR.
FFVI and Chrono Trigger are the best RPGs on the SNES and perhaps ever. This is an amazing arrangement :)
I totally love every single aspect of this game.
still listening to this master piece of yours man
this album is so precious. it has a special place in my ❤️ just like FFVI
One of my most treasured pieces.
The Greatest of All Time.
I could listen to it all day long...
I do,
"You must cast off the anguish you've been harboring inside for so long... Today I set your heart free.
You must learn to love yourself again, and regain your self respect."
Manly tears...
This entire thing was amazing, but I especially love what was done with Terra's theme. That harmony bit was so haunting.
Thanks! :)
Coin of Fate will always have a special place in my heart! Wonderful job on the whole album. I listen to all your stuff at work!
I'm at work not working to listen to this over and over,,,, I really need to buy this album but not a fan of digital downloads,,,
This is awesome thank you for sharing, I bought it on bandcamp. Nice arrangements all around thank you again.
Wow - Kefka's theme sounds so beautiful here!
Dark world was my favorite piece of the FFVI soundtrack. It captured what had just happened to the world in such an intense way. I love your rendition of it and this soundtrack as a whole!
This game made me realize that sometimes, no matter what u do, the bad guys win
bad guy win ALL the time in real life
Indeed
I played ff6 for the first time mere months ago and thought it was an absolute masterclass in musical storytelling and thought it had a genuinely perfect soundtrack all round, so I was absolutely speechless when you actually managed to surpass so many of these tracks. Gonna listen to everything you've ever made now xD
Das Juda
My favorite game of all time.
Idk which version you played, but this is the definitive version for me right here:
www.romhacking.net/hacks/1386/
It's the SNES version but with uncensored, with bug fixes, and dash button if needed.
I emulated the original SNES version and also have the GBA version which I hear has new summons and stuff so I'm excited to give that a try, but I was unaware of any censoring honestly, does this version work with zsnes?
Das Juda
Not sure about ZSnes, but try it however you can, because this version is the ultimate one.
I have the original SNES cartridge, and a repro cart w/ this version... and I only play this version.
I'll do what I can, cheers for the link man, I'm pretty okay with anything that improves the best JRPG of all time :3
Das Juda
Also, in my opinion, the GBA version isn't worth it.
Final Fantasy VI is a Masterpiece
I hear this album and all the feels come rushing back! Thank You and keep on making these amazing albums, I cannot get enough of them.
😊
This was one of my most favourite games, hearing this beautiful re-rendering brings back some memories ^_^.
That's a beautiful and very emotional album, congratulations for the big work you've put into this
Wow!
I went to the orchestra showing distant worlds. Mi wished they could have played more of these songs.
Maybe not a final fantasy 6-sentric show, as many people love other music from various games, but a few more would have been very much loved by me at least.
Fabulous!
beautiful
good on channel commentary on a good channel video ;)
Shesez do sonic forces
I love the timing where the music hits, right when Terra is born, at the end of the Esper World theme. Start at 32:35
Ditto,,,
The music is full of sadness, strength, love, and hope.
I stayed up way longer than I should have tonight to listen to this in its entirety. Thank you so much for this!
I've listened to this about 50 times. Helps me through the work day
I'm listening to this while I work on my Final Fantasy VI Webcomic :D thank you for the touching musics!
You actually made Kefka's theme likeable. Not just acceptable but LIKE-able.
i'm such an avid fan of the old final fantasies ... this is hauntingly nostalgic. i've played ff6 literally over a dozen times, and i think this is going to make me play it again. :D
Jealous,,,
Been putting this on while my students work for the last 8 months. I give this video at least 3 views a day. :) Amazing album!!! FF VI is the best!
@@sebastiancampos341 I play everyday too,,,
Soooo good. And that cover of the decisive battle, wow, totally different take on that!
Maybe the best thing on the entire internet.
This is beyond epic... Celes and Terras were amazing.
I think this is my favourite FF album that you've put together so far. Might have a lot to do with the base work as well, but I often come back here to listen to your arrangements while I do stuff on my PC. Loving them.
+Nordlys I agree. Beautiful work, lots of love has been put into this :)
Same,,,
Beautiful. Excellent job on this one, my friend. They should pay you more.
This is actually very good. I have heard many different renditions for the soundtrack or Final Fantasy 6, but I couldn't find any interesting enough to hold onto. This is something I can listen to for days. Great work!
For days,,,,? I'll one up you,,, for the rest of my life,,,
You did it. You properly orchestrated the score in such a way that maintains the feel of the original SNES rendition. The vast majority of orchestral versions, even official ones, don't get the tempo and rhythm right and change the whole thing. You did it.
Bravo, and thank you.
This is one the best videos I ever had the pleasure of listen. Thank you, sir.
Your work is amazing. Thank you so much. I find I am often moved to tears by how soulful you've made these tracks. So again, thank you.
I’m still listening to this atleast once a week. Thank you for keeping my childhood alive. 🎉
well done... one of the best soundtracks and this rendition is epic! i put my baby to sleep with this playlist... my wife and baby fall asleep because of the pure beauty and soothing melody, where i close my eyes and picture walking through the snow on my magitech
Especially,I was moved when Cyan went to see Cyan's wife and child had been dead😭
Sad and beautiful story
I love FFⅥ😊
hey man wtf
Who's cyan
This album is amazing. Thanks for bringing some additional joy to my life!
My lord. this is something else. When i have it i will be supporting this with money.
this is so very very good. my favorite game, my favorite score. done really, seriously, well. love it. thank you.
I still listen to this years later
It feels like a relaxing effect to listen to this beauty at work ;) ! Thank you TPR !
yes!! been waiting for this for a while! thank you so much!
These pieces are fabulous , like them so much !
thanks for making these theme.
