I am happy to report that I am one of the 'rich people' who did not die thanks to my Apple Watch. That first part really had me tearing up. My watch told me to get checked out as I was tachycardic. Then it told me in a more urgent manner. I was some 140BPM at rest. I called the doc, gave them the news and they told me to hang up and call an ambulance. Straight to hospital, where I spent the next week. Without my watch, I dread to think what would have happened to me.

@@akfortyfo7024This happened to me as well. I was at a restaurant and I felt a little off, but I wasn’t sick or anything just sitting there. My watch went off alerting me that my pulse was 150. When I stood up, I felt like I was gonna pass out. I stupidly drove myself to the ER. After a battery of tests I’m not only healthy and normal, but they never figured out what happened. I was inspired to get in better shape and have done 3 5k’s and started weight training. I lost 80 pounds and I’m not longer overweight. So there’s that. I may never have known and just gone home feeling weird and like I was gonna pass out without the watch alert.

The biggest "watch this space" moment is the hardware ray tracing on the A17 Pro. This means that the odds that the upcoming M3 will have this just got really good. So good that it may be a reason to upgrade for many, especially gamers and people who work in graphics intensive workflows.

So, if you’re considering getting a new iPhone just because of this button, remember that with the back tap feature your iPhone can do the exact same thing as the action button does.

I think once the A17 comes to the Apple TV it could become a legitimate competitor to game consoles if they can get the developers to come like they did with the iPhone 15 pro. The current Apple TV already has some great gaming experiences but bring the AAA games and you really got something going. Especially for the price point.

@@B.D.F. I mean we don’t currently have confirmation that the iPhone 15 pro has hdmi support over usb-c, it seems unlikely they wouldn’t have support as the iPads do but it’s not confirmed. However one downside is interface, the iPhone doesn’t have controller navigation while the Apple TV does. To be a significant competitor I think an always at home setup where anyone in the house can pickup and game rather than everyone needing an iPhone. The main question would be if Apple splits the Apple TV into a set top model and a “Pro” model(perhaps bringing back the fan for better performance).

The iPhone has a much larger user base than Apple TV though, and a lot of people already play full games like Fortnite and Genshin Impact on mobile (I can't imagine doing it, but a lot of people do). In other words, I see how they could convince game developers to pay attention to the iPhone, but it would be a much harder lift to convince them to seriously consider Apple TV as a serious gaming device.

I have a iPhone 11 with a busted camera (unless I set it to 0.5). The sensitivity to vibration on all these new cameras (with some phone features) is a major issue for anyone that is rough on their devices. Tradespeople, outdoor sports enthusiasts or anyone that rides a motorcycle and wants to use their phone as their navigation and entertainment device.
I have to continue to live without a working camera on my phone, taking a seperate action cam with me or roll back to the good old days of pre-optical stabilisation. A basic digital camera that is not sensitive to vibration takes much better photos than a new fancy camera with a impact/vibration damaged lens that cannot focus.
Maybe apple will release an ultra variant that is focused on battery life and durability or a new version of the SE with Face ID and a basic camera. I really want to stick with iOS for my phone but they are increasingly heading in the wrong direction for me and many others.

Keynote was lackluster to me. Especially disappointed only getting 5x optical zoom on pro max. Despite the Apple Store saying “up to 10x optical”. I assume that has something to do with how it crops the 48mp sensor down. They could at least add that 5x to regular size pro phone. I bet that happens on next years pro model…

Regarding the f-ratio comparison between iPhone 15 Pro Max and S23 Ultra, one thing to note is that the f-ratio is the ratio between aperture size and focal length, while the aperture size is what physically determines how many photons hit the sensor, hence the SNR and raw noise level, so you cannot directly compare the f-ratio and need to also take the focal length into account, as they are at different focal length (120mm vs 230mm, or x5 vs x10).

The keynote itself was even more cringy than normal, which is saying something. Whilst Apple's efforts in the environmental and sustainability arenas are praiseworthy, it's not just their anti-repair stance than sticks in my craw. They make most of their products in sweat shops in East Asia, using poorly-paid and exploited workers. They promote frequent upgrades (e.g. iPhone), which is wasteful (even if you give your old phone to someone else or trade it in). And they continue to be anti-union. All of these things are at odds with the progressive image they try to project.
