How to Apply Chrome that will last!! (until your next appointment)

- Hiya Duck in today's video it’s all about making chrome last! Until your next appointment let's get cracking!
So I have a black nail here Chrome always works best over a dark color so I have used Void I have also given this a base coat and ill be doing 3 nails on one nail ill be curing for 10 seconds this will really under cure the topcoat and prevent the Chrome from being as shiny as well as leaving bubbles in the surface of the topcoat that will be able to see after the chrome has been applied
Then ill cure the topcoat on my nail for the full 30 seconds and this should look pretty good and shiny but that chrome will be sitting on top of the cured topcoat so it won’t have the Chrome locked into the nail and will be exposed to the same beatings your hands take and because its a topcoat adding topcoat again won’t stick.
And then for my final nail ill give the topcoat a 20-second cure ill apply the chrome powder and then I can cure the topcoat for the remaining 10 seconds and really lock that chrome powder into the topcoat and will have a really high shine but it will also last until your next appointment
Now at this point I take my base coat and apply that make sure you got to get any chrome in your base coat else it will be ruined and then you can give that a final topcoat and that’s it I hope this helps you get a nice long lasting chrome and that’s it for this video and ill catch you in the next one! That’s exactly the little bubbles and imperfections is exactly what I get on the nails when I’m trying to do chrome. I thought it was the product. I thought it was lint. I just couldn’t figure it out but now I watched a video and I’m understanding.👍

I tried this technique because my Chrome always chips, and I haven’t had a single spot chip off. I do my own nails and work in a restaurant so usually by a couple hours I have multiple spots chipping off of my chrome. Very, very helpful! I did some chrome nails on a cliente and just used two coats of top coat. The chrome started to come of the next day. I'm definitly going to try your method.

Thank you for that,got chrome nails that I could seethe particles on all nails wanted the mirror effect.
That sucks.. Seems like there's lots of nail techs that don't do chrome correctly and can't do cat eye gels either 🤷🏼♀️
I did a Chrome set a few days ago. I clean just under the free edge with a few swipes of a 240 grit to encapsulate the Chrome then cover with a regular tacky layer top coat running my finger lightly down the sides before curing and then again with a no wipe top coat and they last for 2 to 3 weeks.
Do you wipe off the tacky layer before the final top coat? 🤔

Thank you for your helpful explanation and tips, it worked really well but for the gold chrome powder there is a little bit of black in it , like not pure gold finish ,it is not strong as the silver one came out. I don’t know why.

Questions: if you are wanting to apply chrome to detailed nail art, say flames for instance. Would you draw the design out in black gel, cure, then go over the design carefully with top coat? Or can you mix black gel n top coat to save time? Love you and you videos

I'm not quite sure if you just solved my problem. I'll tell you, and then maybe, you can tell me... lol
When I use chrome or chameleon powder, sometimes foils too, getting the top coat to go on, is impossible. It won't stay in place, it retreats back the center of the nail, kind of how water and oil react to each other. Of course there is no oil, my guess is it's to shiny and well buffed from my burnishing.
So, is this the same as you were talking about??
Now I have always under cured my no wipe for chrome as the time they said should work, is - as you had it, a struggle.. What i didn't do was put it back in the light after chroming - now if I were to do that, and then do a layer of base coat, I should be able to top coat - yes?? Is my problem solved??
But how would you solve the problem over foils? We have glue that you dont cure. I mean, i know there is curable glue but it should work with the normal stuff too. That stuff is so shiney, that trying to get my topcoat over it, doesn't work. And I've tried then all. Hard gel, no wipe, shiney in a bottle, they all pool back in spots over the nail. Trying Tack from L.E and Protein Bond from Y.N, just dulls and mutes your beautiful shiney finish - that top coat doesn't bring back.
Sorry for this being long, I just realized as you fixed the chrome problem, I'm still stuck with the foil problem. Which might also be a nail wrap problem, but I don't use them, so I don't know.

Could you use clear construction gel instead of base coat?
I've heard that several times (Chrome looks best applied over black) but if your nails aren't black, should I use a uv gel gloss black finish first and then apply a uv gel chrome after it is fully cured?

some years ago I also did the base coat trick after applying the chrome but it also chipped off after a few days. All it was left was the color underneath idk why. I have tried so many thing but it always get chipped off
So true what you say about mistakes have already been made and unforgivable ones at that. It reminds me of a situation, a situation I’ll never be forgiving and karma will show them people that their a disgrace and shame on them for their disgusting false accusations. Their mistakes are to much to forgive. And that’s all I have to say on the matter.

1:06 what do you mean when you say you base coated it because you don't want it to be sticky? Isn't the base coat sticky?
Does the top coat have to be a no wipe? Or can the tacky type top coat be used for chrome?

What do I do if the little applicator gets nail polish on it while I’m trying to apply the chrome?
Hiya Kirsty can you tell me why when I put black gel polish on my nails it's not taking properly, it's rippling even when iv put a thin layer on.
I keep going back but I can't find why the sprinkles of chrome on the basecoat brush is a problem. Help!
So this needs to be done on gel not regular polish?

How much is a full cure and an 'under cure' in seconds for this particular case? And what kind of cure is a 20 sec cure compared to the under and full cure? I need that info 😢
I used the clear bonding gel polish before I use the chrome powder. So, I apply the gel cheat base coat coat then cure it for a minute. Then, I use my black gel polish and cure it. Next, I apply the gel Bonding polish and cure it before I use my eye shadow applicator to apply the chrome powder. The last step is to apply my Gel Top Coat and cure it. Then, I apply my rubbing alcohol and wash my hands.
Is this a non-wipe top coat you are using or a wipe top coat?

If our top coat is a 60 second cure on the manufacturer label, do we cure for 40-50 seconds then chrome ? Or still do 20 seconds

There's no universal answer to this, the ideal thing would be to test different timings and pick the shortest time you can get away with that doesn't dull out the chromr
