    I purchased one of these in Dec and I'm pretty happy with it overall. The eye sight driver assist system is super annoying and WAY too cautious, but I leave it on because I often drive late at night when I'm tired and the system does keep me alert, even if also annoyed. I love the turbo engine and overall comfort/luxury of of the touring, and the saddle brown napa leather seats in my magnetite gray example look and feel great. ALso, love the heated steering wheel. I live in Ohio and I always wanted that feature for the long winters here. The CVT isn't bad, probably the best one in the industry. I almost got the wilderness, but I'm so glad I didn't. Any Outback with decent tires will do just fine in mild off-roading, so the wilderness just isn't necessary for most people and it isn't worth the huge fuel economy hit.

    Just got one of these, the Touring XT. Blue with black Nappa leather seats. The back seats also recline. It is very nice, practical, and yes, more than capable. The leather is soft with off white contrast stitching and the seats, both front and back are super comfortable. The car has all the comfort features any reasonable person could ever need or want. I also have a 2018 BMW X3, which is nicely equipped and I enjoy driving, but I get greater enjoyment from driving the Outback. It just feels more engaging to drive, and handles beautifully, the steering is precise, and the Turbo engine delivers a health boost of power when needed. The tech is thoughtfully designed and works well. Honestly, it’s difficult to find fault with the 2023 Outback. Additionally, I like that it’s somewhat of a unicorn in what is now a sea of SUVs. It’s a wagon with plenty of storage capacity that has a lower center of gravity than most SUVs and yet it handles more like a car, but with plenty of ground clearance. Subaru has really landed on what might just be the perfect vehicle with the Outback.

    I bought a used 2020 Outback Touring XT half a year ago so I can now compare mine with the 2023 model shown in the video. Gotta say - not a fan of the front mascara styling (very apt to name it like that). The side cladding is also larger, might not stand out so much with darker colors. In terms of interior - I like the rear view mirror camera (I think they took that from the Ascent). The center interface has a cool update, but I heard that it will be also available as a software update for older 6-gen Outbacks as well, so that won't be a old-new difference for long. One thing that Zack didn't mention is that they upgraded the Eyesight camera hardware. The 2023 cameras are sleek and hidden behind the rear view mirror. On older Outbacks these were pretty bulky and stood out, so that's a plus as well. Front fog lights are a different type as well. That's all the differences I can see based on this review video. Zack also didn't mention this but I think this one finally has wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto support. If it were me though, these updates/upgrades wouldn't be enough to get over the mascara look up front so I'd most likely again opt for a pre-2023 model if I was looking for one. It would be great if Subaru left the "more cladding" aesthetics as an option instead of standard.

    Great video, also just realized I've been saying "subtle" wrong all these years. Got the 2023 Onyx XT edition in Green which stands out, but gets dirty only a few days after washing. I had a Forester and it's nice, I do miss the ride height, but the tech on the Outback to where you really don't need the display (I often turn it off) because my directions, music, etc are all on the center dash. I feel a more luxury trim, and I like when losing cell signal I'm able to use the Tom Tom GPS that's included in the XT models. Only beef..being 5'6" I have to crawl in the back to remove the cover if hauling large items. Also the mfr installed wood trim doesn't really go with the interior, I don't get it why they'd even go out of their way to install that, only to add $300 to the mfr price, I've seen the install instructions it would cost $200 in labor alone the soft "Vegan Leather" was good enough. having a 182HP for 4 years then going to a 260 turbo got some time to get used to, felt my head go into the back seat almost because I was so used to the sponginess with my Forester.

  • @tomdfrog
    @tomdfrog ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I love and loathe my 2020 Outback Touring XT. Engine and Transmission are awesome. The beefed up CVT pairs well with the 260hp Turbo. The headlights are amazing. Main reason I upgraded from my 2015 Outback. The EyeSight is annoying. If you try to pass, it kicks in and robs you of power...so plan ahead as the power won't come back until you get into the adjacent lane. The driver distraction system (center display) sucks. That is what I loathe. I could write a small book about all of its flaws. Still slow after all the patches to fix speed. Buttons are small (but images are large, like the image of the seat is big but the button for the heat/cool is small). Driver distraction system does not like country roads with little to no shoulders. Constant squawks about staying in your lane. Also gets mad if you veer to avoid a pedestrian or cyclist in the road. Basically, the EyeSight system has super basic programming. Would I buy again...absolutely. The IIHS safety rating is tip top. Would I recommend it...based on IIHS, yes. Based on use...I would caution anyone to try for an extended overnight test drive. The Driver Distraction system sucks IMHO. Also, the Touring seats, since they have cooling, are extra thin on padding. Any road trips...we take memory foam cushions along. My 2015 was firm...but this goes even firmer. Oh, and my 2020 has the Baby Diaper Content brown Napa leather. The all black looks better though it is horribly depressing. If I did it again...I would buy a Limited XT and get the beige interior.

    Back in 2013 I was ready to take delivery on a 13 Outback 3.6R Limited. At the last minute, the dealership I was working with started playing games with my trade. The deal fell through and I wound up with a Jeep Grand Cherokee. These are still good cars in 2023, but I’m not sure where they are going with the styling with the latest update. That, and the mandatory CVT would be dealbreakers for me.

    • @bwofficial1776
      @bwofficial1776 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a 2022 Outback before it got the weird cladding. The CVT is fine except that it fakes a downshift to "first" as you're coming to a stop so the car lurches forward. It's comfortable and quiet.

    Got issues with my 2022 2.4L DiT leaking oil at 800 miles. Took a month for parts to arrive for warranty service on the oil level sensor. They resealed the lower oil pan as well. Infotainment 11.6" screen is terrible. Glitchy, slow and cumbersome. They just dropped the update a few days ago to match the 2023 UI to the 2022 and lower. We will see if this update helps. MPG is horrible in the city. I am barely getting 16.5MPG on the city. Highway only, I can hit about 30MPG. Lots of interior rattling from the eye sight, moonroof, above the center channel speaker and passenger side door and B pillar. Grainy front camera. Rear is decent but its time for 360. Ventilated seats are meh and my 2022 heated steering wheel barely gets lukewarm. I expected more from a 40k+ highest trim Subaru. No hate, we own 4 total Subaru's that we still drive between my siblings and family members.

    My '22 Outback is a great car. It's quiet and comfortable and the Eyesight is great. This new one is a bit overstyled but like the BMW M3 it looks less bad in person. I can't wait for mine to be updated with the better heated seat controls because like you said it's really annoying. Climate control on the screen doesn't bother me because the auto setting works very well. Android Auto sucks, it only uses a third of the screen and it's low resolution. Apple Carplay generously gets half of the screen. The base engine is barely adequate but I've heard that the turbo engine gets significantly worse fuel economy in the real world and the boost curve is not well matched to the transmission curve. The CVT is fine. It fakes a downshift to first as you're coming to a stop so the car lurches forward and it fakes gearshifts under acceleration but it's otherwise fine. I wish they'd gone with an 8 or 10 speed though. I'm surprised that it has yellow parking lights, my '22 dims the white DRL boomerangs and uses those as the parking lights.
    The tailgate on/off button controls the proximity sensor behind the Subaru logo. If you walk up to the car with the fob and put your hand over the logo the tailgate will open. Those chrome things look ridiculous and the dealership shouldn't have put them on.
    It's a shame wagons are hard to find. It's either this, a Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Audi A4 Allroad, Audi A6 Avant, or Volvo V90 Cross Country. Longroofs just look good and lifted wagons look cool.

    • @waynereilly9750
      @waynereilly9750 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I've got a 2022 Outback Sport. The tailgate coming up is a pain when you have the key in your pocket and you're hooking up the trailer next the tailgate is wanting to lift. I throw the key on the front seat now.

    For the past few years, I've been drooling over a Crosstrek, but it occurred to me that if I ever wanted to do a road trip with my friends, the space in the outback might not be a bad idea. The price is hard to swallow though, even though you get all the bells and whistles. Is it worth the price to have room for occasional road trips?

    I love my 2023 Subaru Outback Touring, but for what it costs the front seats, especially the drivers seat is the most uncomfortable seat I've ever had. It's pitiful that they don't listen to customer complaints. This is my 4th Outback and the nicest one except for the drivers seat which is the worst one out of all 4. Again Subaru, this is pitiful and this will probably be my last one. Come on replace the damn seats already.

    I thought they were lying to everyone (including themselves) and calling it a crossover now, not a wagon. Pathetic. Subaru has the Forester, Ascent, and the Crosstrek to serve as crossovers. Just remove the "Outback" nonsense and go back to Legacy, and go for Volvo's niche wagon segment.
