- As we wrap up Shalltear's character profile, Djinnfor and I decided to add an a little bit extra to really highlight why, on paper, Shalltear is the strongest NPC within Nazarick (minus Rubedo). So let's see why it is that Shalltear should win every 1 on 1 fight.

In MMOs usually the Hybrids (honestly) are trash both in Magic and physical. Their performance is average in both this areas. That's why Peroroncino is so impressive: he really found the Holy Graail of MMOs: an Hybrid competent in both styles. And that's also why Ainz was a genuis against her
There are no trash builds only trash players.balancing in games would be pointless if certain builds dominates all the others specially in RPG games.
@@jajajajalaclaclac373 yes there are plenty of trash builds. Just cuz they have the task to balance doesn't mean they (devs) won't screw It up, which they frequently do. From my experience playing MMORPGs with hybrid trees and unbalanced builds, yes, there are plenty of trash and hybrids are frequently infamous amongst veterana cuz they live on an existential crisis basis: can't perform nothing masterfully so they tend to frequently need help from someone and can't go soloing when needed. And man, even If the balancing is well done, It doesnt matter: there Will always be a meta. Bebit against other classes or within a class
@@turinmormegil7715 you basically just described what a hybrid is and them not excelling at one thing is the drawback of it being hybrid compared to pure builds because there is bound to be sacrifices in the stat distribution department if ur gonna build hybrid but that is just player reference and mostly the Meta in any game is glasscannon builds which is not surprising and a build is not automatically trash if it doesnt work for you because some players are skilled enough to make it work.and meta builds are for noobs and tryhards tbch classic WoW and RAN online are good examples of any build can work if you play it right type of games.
@@jajajajalaclaclac373 not all metas are glasscannons at all, dude. And yes, I did describe the hybrids, and that's exactly what makes me loathe them. It's a waste of stat points. You either are one thing or another. At the most you can be placed at two niches and moderately work well, more than that and you are just shooting at ever direction without clear purpose. Sure you can learn to play It an be good at It, but at the end of the deal, say, you will never be a good dps, a good Tank, a good mobber, a good cc, a good range, a good buffer/debuffer or a good healer. This is specially a pain for solo players, since you more often than you wish have to relly on asking others for help. And in terms of partying, you're also discarded If they have the option to recruit specialists of each If your roles.
@@turinmormegil7715 i never said all games have glasscannons as meta builds i said MOST games.which is pretty undeniable because crap tons of damage is always a good thing in these types of games and if youre having fun playing with linear builds then go right ahead its ur preference doesnt give you the right to call hybrid builds as trash tho and getting on parties is pretty easy unless ur playing solo then join a guild if ur a hybrid that meta fanboys that dont like to have fun and experiment hate i dont see why i would want to build a hybrid if im not skilled or knowledgable enough to use it for its intended purpose.thats why were back to my previous statement that there are no trash builds.just trash players.and at the end of the day every build is just preference and which is more fun for the player as what games are designed to be for.

Hmmm this reminds me of a pvp i had 8 years ago in mabinogi. Since everyone there has no total level limit and be every classes. my opponent and I fought for 3 hours, and i won by keeping my demigod mode unused until my opponent’s demi was used completely. Giving me the last edge after our equipment broke. I still feel like i lost since all that repair cost me 500K gold which back them it was a ton.
Its about sending a message, you won with your skill, even if it wasent financially worth it

Shalltear's build makes sense if you bring the whole thing into the original setting of the game. She would make a perfect headhunter for guild members who want to betray the Guild.
I believe that you putted her down a bit too much at the end. She might be dumb in day to day life but she isn't really that dumb when it comes to combat. Ainz just had prep time, had more pvp experience and knew everything about her build.
It's not so much about inteligence but about information available to you and prep time.
And even tho Shalltear was at seviere disadvantage at every pool aside from shere power she still gave Ainz a lot of trouble.
well unfortaint Shalltear is dumb remember her Creator was a power gamer not a Settings maniac ((like Albedo's)) as such he didnt put much thought into her backstory like a line that says
"her combat skills on the battlefield give her the name Bloody Valkyrie as she is graceful and able to adapt to the flow of the fight never once getting cocky at who her foe is"
Shalltear unlike others was given the bare minimum of Settings by her creator because for all he knew she was just going to be commanded by the Limited AI of Yggdrsil not giving full intellegence like she has in the new world

@@Sithno First of all that's wrong, peroroncino gave her full backstory but not a very practical one battle-wise. He have written her as the perfect girl for his fetishes that's why she's always kinky, and she was also programmed to have a "sibling feud" like attitude towards aura.
having full sentience made her susceptible to the cunning and trickery of her enemy. even albedo and demiurge supposed to be the most intelligent guardians had a hard time following shalltear's fight with ainz and needs to ask cocytus a lot of times.
It's also about the NPC's backstory. Sebas and Cocytus have the highest battle IQ among the servants and I will put sebas putting a close fight with shalltear tbh. That's also probably the reason why ainz was confident of sending sebas alone in a recon mission even after the shalltear incident.
dharmdevil ainz send sebas because his build boasts zero weakness with all kinds of strength.and cocytus is the best warrior though. Personally I feel demiurge and albedo combat Iq is superior to everyone.

A Lance has no downsides when SUPER strength is involved.
When you can swing a tree as easily as one twirls a pen there is no downside to a lance.
Now - We can say that shaltears lance in the anime has issues - Its way too short. That lance should be at least 3 times her height if not 4. Why is her lance midget sized?
I'm pretty sure the Spuit Lance can increase in length a little bit.
Also I am guessing if the lance were even longer, it would be unwieldy at closer ranges. As it stands, it's great all the way up to mid-short range.

Every time I watch these, I remember how little I know about this series. I completely forgot that with characters, especially NPC's, their equipment is just as important to who they are as their builds are.

But it is not exactly true that Shalttear didn't use her abillities or intelligence right, when you fight someone who knows everything about you, or is at least slightly familiar with some of your abillities and skills, especially when you (and all NPC in Nazarik) think that your opponent (Ainz) is a super genius, you become over worried thus doubting yourself, so she didn't fight well out of fear of her normal strategy being countered.
Shalltear fought in a way which is out of her comfort zone, thus she lost the fight, she was actually over-thinking everything and thus is made her loose in the end.
Do not forget that Ainz also knew her personality (based on her lore) just as good as her skiils, making him exploit the way she thinks to his advantage.

I agree and disagree, even shalltear was amazed that Ainz knew so much about her skills and abilities even calling her own maker smarter than Ainz mid fight because of how well equipped she was, she knew that she perfectly countered him but still used her abilities in a semi wasteful manner because of the mind games Ainz was playing against her, he lowered her guard and made her act differently because of it. She didn’t overthink things, she was responding to the information (or misinformation) given to her by Ainz during their battle and simply assumed he wasn’t lying. This was truly a PvP player vs a PvE boss, but in a ‘real world’ fight.

Shalltear's build comes across as a DoT build. (Damage over Time) They're typically more specificalized than her build, but her build definitely fits the bill for one meant to slowly ebb away your health while she heals the shit out of herself. To put it into more understandable terms: she's like a super fast boss that's hard to pin down to do good damage, but has a lot of minions and heal phases as you chunk her health. Either she gets you while you're dealing with minions, or the minions get you because you ignored them
I typically go for a more of a debuff centric dot build, but builds like this work too

Shalltear lost to Ainz because Ainz is a pay to win scrub using cash shop items.
He used 1 cash shop item . Only one(that hour glass). Credits where credit is due he is smarter than most people think(still not smart as demiurge and albedo).
Ainz wasn't really trying to kill her he was trying to win her out without killing her but in the end she left him no choice.
Shalltear is a raid boss bro which requires many players to defeat one. You think Ains alone can beat a raid boss? Of course he had to use those items because if he dies, he will actually die.

I think Ainz won cause he knew what Shalltear can do and each an every skill she has. he was also able to prepare better since he also knew her personality. There's also the fact the he casted a shit ton of buff at first which you wont be able to do in Yggdrasil without being targeted.

Considering that the intelligence of a NPC is determined by its character profile. Nothing in Albedo's build suggest high intelligence and management skills.
If Peroroncino added a few lines about combat strategy instead of writhing every kink he could think of, she would truly be a unbeatable powerhouse. Imagine Shalltear's build with Albedo's profile.

Albedo is a demon, nalfeshnee or succubus, both of which are extremely intelligent. Shalltear, on the other end, a dumb vampire cleric - wise and charismatic, but not really smart.

It also needs to be said that Ainz actually had time to prepare a strategy for the fight, while Shalltear was just stuck there half mind controlled and had to go on the fly. I'm not saying she could have pulled strats at the level of Ainz, since from what I get he was kinda known for being highly adaptive with his enormous variety of spells, but she had a handicap too.

You've sacrificed attack power in that description. Which is a fair trade off; you've made a tank that focuses on crowd control. But if you're dropping attack power, you may as well drop life steal as well.
And of course, if all you have is defense, hit points, regeneration, more defense, and a butt ton of crowd control...no one can kill you but you also can't kill anyone. You're not really effective unless you're on a team.
Then again, all hyper-specialized builds are better on a team to cover their weaknesses and where they can cover others'.
Ditch the life steal and give that man some reflect damage. Much better since you wont deal much damage on you attacks.
@@tomc.5704 I mean it depends on the type of lifesteal, it doesn't have to be based off attack damage some lifesteal is based off of enemies maximum health, or its lifesteal thats doubled on counter attacks. And you dont necessarily need high damage to abuse life steal, high attack speed can also contribute to it. Heck there are even some games where a tank has low damage but one ability that deals a high amount of damage that benefits from life steal,
Deathstar 699 in my game(it real), there is a class call Revenger and advance class of it, Vampire. It has a passive skill when you attack, there is a chance to regen 1% of your health, a low cd skill regen 3%of health when hit the target, so I but all my stat to VIT, my attack come from my equipment, it is very annoying in Arena . Sadly, not very good for farming

As a fan of MMORPGS the info on the types of builds that excel in duels aligns exactly with what I experience in games.

The discussion of options offers a great look into the strategic level of combat. Ygdrassil must have been a very impressive MMO to allow for that. My experience with gaming though, especially MMOs, has shown that options are usually non-existent. In a given raid encounter, you have one thing you're supposed to do over and over again. The actions a raid boss, what Shalltear was designed to be, are fairly uniform and scripted; raid bosses I dealt with never really strayed far from but a few abilities and they usually weren't catastrophic after the first few wins.
On the PvP side, my only experience was in EVE Online, where combat is mathematically derived, and if you understand the math, or simply overwhelm, your tactical victory is guaranteed. Strategic victory in EVE is also mathematical, but has largely been rendered impossible by the largest entities of the game.
Keep in mind the difference between a raid boss and a guild npc is, the raid boss HAS to be built "fairly". As you say, it has to have a limited set of skills, often give warning thats aid skills are about to be used, and have a hard counter to them. Shalltear and the other guardians were designed to be as unfair as they could manage. As an example, in many mmo boss battles, if the boss has an aoe attack, there are often pillars or obstructions you can hide behind to protect yourself. The players wouldnt design the npc area to provide protection from their attacks, that would be stupid. The goal is to kill everyone who tries to get in, not give them a fight and reward them with loot.

Remember that Ainz defeated her with regular gear as a non-optimised mage build that is countered by her build. A properly built team of high level players can likely defeat her with pure attrition.
Out of all the Guardians, Ainz know shalltears move and all information about her. With that being said, your idea does not really work.
No, they're absolutely right. A properly built TEAM of high level players could beat her at her own game. Heck, a half competent tank-dps-healer team would wipe the floor with her.
But if you're a one or two man scouting party going into Nazarick -- good luck dealing with Shaltear and Ainz.
@@tomc.5704 Your idea is valid but now we get down to the fact that they cant just defeat her 100%, plus you exclude the fact that Ainz know her Character very well while other players do not. "Information" for your information is a big game changer not just in fantasy, but on to the real world as well. Suppose a properly built team of high level players fought with her, she still would not be defeated absolutely. It depends, on whether how they deal with her. They got no info about her skills so surprises are literally gonna be a big disadvantage to them. As the famous saying once said that we could never predict war and nobody knows the outcome of a real battle as certain unexpected things could happen likewise nobody knows as well how the author would execute the fight if there could be a scenario for that.

i mostly agree with you, but about her losing to Aniz, is not because she is too dumb, is more because Ainz knew everything about her, he prepared his build and had a strategy even before the fight started, he is also more used to fighting and had tons of options thanks to his many items

Great video. Also, even though it’s unrelated, I still feel as though Pandora’s Actor is Among the strongest in the guild. Obviously Rubedo, Shalltear, Mare(maybe) would kill him and you already made a video on him, his versatility plus being one of the smartest characters in the show is a scary combo. If we think about it, Ainz only best Shalltear cause he was smarter. That’s PA on a smaller scale.
PA can go mimic the 80% of the world champion Touch me.. and would go nutz.
Ainz had a big range of options once he started using the cash items to get divine weapons from his guild members.

I was a wood elf with great sword and electric staff as secondary, I will always summon the monster at the beginning and whenever they about to kill me, I would kill the monster so that it can heal myself. You mention that she can use her blood pool ability to restore her MP, but the skills details in book 3 only mention that she could use it to cover the extra MP cost of the spell boosting like Penetrating Magic and Maximize Magic. There was no mention of her being able to use it to recover MP.

The options premise is very much the premise of fighting games. It's why OS or Option selects are such a powerful tool. A fighting game is just like any competitive head to head encounter or game. It's a series of guesses and who ever makes the correct guesses will typically win even if the advantage is not in their favor. It's just that more options minimizes guessing.
For instance let's say you knock an opponent down in a FG. In most fighters because a character MUST return to a neutral position before taking another action, knocking the opponent down is typically a momentum boost. Your opponent's options are limited meaning that wrong guess while 'waking up' results in an even more disadvantageous situation
