Beating Nadal and Djokovic, the best clay player ever and the second best clay player of this era, back to back, that's crazy. Still wouldn't rank it so high, old big 2 guys were warming up still, steadily increasing their level towards the French open, never reaching their 2021 level despite Nadal winning RG.
@@gilgamessiHe turned 19. Beat the 5 time Madrid open champion and greatest player on clay in the QF on the next day (First and Only Teenager to ever do so btw). Then he beat the second best player on clay of all time, the world number 1 and arguably the GOAT the next day (Also becoming the first player ever to beat Nadal and Djokovic in consecutive matches in clay ever). Then he beats Zverev in the final, who was at the moment a world number 3, the defending Madrid open champion and probably regarded as the best clay court player on the tour after Novak and Rafa. Just look at what Zverev was doing at the French Open against Nadal in the Semi’s that year to see what form he was on himself.
The Djokovic match was in my top 3 matches from last year. Against any other player, Carlitos would've won that match comfortably and dare I say it, so would Djokovic. The Nadal match was emotional and a roller-coaster, and the quality wasn't close to the semifinal. In fact, with the more mature Carlitos we're seeing right now, those big drops are no longer as big an issue as in his earlier years.
Beyond Alcaraz is strong and complete, he is so smart to understand and predict the game, the point. It's not just about tactics, it's instinct to play the right choice in every moment.
Only yesterday I rewatched the Djokovic match and I was impressed all over again. Was at a very high level and it still boggles my mind how a very composed 19 yr old Alcaraz won that match against an in form Djokovic. It could have gone either way though
@@DeepSeas.. Yeah ofc, "not" in-form and He won every match WITHOUT DROP a single set after that Alcaraz match, winning Roma and only losing vs Nadal in RG lol. Keep crying...
Even i was stunned by the professional ease with which Carlos dealt with Novak. Novak was changing direction, varying depth, but Carlos adapted so well. He deserved this win and title. What a boom for the men's game.
Still my favorite run of Alcaraz's last year. I know he got beat in the French and so forth after that, but it felt like he had that big 3 aura in that he couldn't be beaten by anyone.
@@malekat8539 Tha't right, but most players peak around mid 20's. Alcaraz is working hard, his serve can still get better, but otherwise he's a complete player already. Alcaraz is so gifted that he makes all those who've been at it for much longer look dephased, loose their creativity and produce a dull game, well done man.

@@mike_thiel Alcaraz is closest to Federer among the big 3, his game is attacking and he doesn't let the opponents breath for a second when he's in form just like Federer, except for that, some things like that sliding 2 handed backhand is similar to Djokovic, but I see no similarity to Nadal's game in his

But I still believe Rafa can give one more push in that year or another!
That Match Point vs Nadal was like. Hello Old Nadal, meet the new New Nadal Carlos covered the court in less than 3 seconds 😂. Even Nadal couldn’t believe it Also coming back to beat Novak from 1 set down is mentallll
