Simply - easily, one of the greatest American bands of all time. No brainer. Lyrics, composition, talent, passion, consistency, name it.... Thank you so much! And, yes, Paul Riddle makes you think there are two drummers in the band. THAT takes a tremendous amount of talent. OMG.
Been a MTB fan since the early seventies, and this is one of my faves. Don't have a clue as to why it didn't get more recognition, 'cause it's a GREAT one!!!
Probably bc by the end of the 70s "Southern Rock" was being shoved towards the back in favor of younger more MTV 🤮🤮 friendly pop bands that made cute videos 🤮🤮 and didn't have beards and cowboy hats.. forget the talent and songwriting let's just get pretty boys and girls and dub it. F**k me running
Pleased to see accolades here for Paul Riddle. Speaking as a drummer and as a huge 'Paul Riddle' admirer, I've long felt this particular track was Paul's crowning achievement. THIS IS NOT AN EASY SONG FOR A DRUMMER FOLKS! I've always felt this track pushed the entire band as far as their skills will take them. Awesome arrangement. Bravo Marshall Tucker musicians!
@JustAintThatWay let's make it unanimous then. Not sure if either could be replaced without a very noticable difference. And Doug Gray at 70+ still holds his own.
Nothing like the MTB , Doug belting out incredible lyrics , masterful guitar by Toy , George shredding his and Tommy and Paul laying down the beat while Jerry adds a flute and sax to finish it off. Saw them 30+ times in the 70s
Sorry but Tommy was already dead at this time. That is Franklin Wilkie on bass. He was a good bass player but he certainly wasn't on Tommy's level. The band lost it's spark when Tommy was killed.
A few years ago they had a version of this that had incredible video and sound quality. I knew it wouldn't last. They set the bar to high with this jam. Toy Caldwells guitar licks so heavy! Metal!
Radio school, 1979, partying after class My one buddy was Huge Doobie bros fan and was extolling the virtues of Johnston/Simmons. (The 2 bands were soon to play together at Tampa Stadium, the Doobies Headlining)This MTB album was fairly new and I cranked up this track: cass closed amongst all present on The Hottest solo. IMO, as talented and popular as thevDoobies were then Minute By Minute album), Toy and his boys blew'em off the stage ..?
I just played this to see if there were 2 drummers in MTB after days of cranking them in my car…. I came to the conclusion that they had for sure had 2 guys playing drums…. Nope… Riddle is a badass!!
first time seeing this...vintage all around....last song played with friends of mine who later died in a car accident in the cornfields of Indiana...RIP Scott, Helen, and Scott
I was at this concert I think it was 1981 not sure but they were playing blue ridge mountains cars because I was running late with my buddies once we got to our seats right before Doug threw his hat over to his right side of the stage it landed two rows behind us and I don’t think that hat came out in one piece
To drewman118, I would love a copy of the audio of your source for this show. I am working on expanding the audio from the dvd. Pleas repond if you are willing to help. Thank you.
I'll be loving you!!
One of the best guitar solos of my ~ life !
💪❤🎶

And on an ironic note Doug Gray is wearing an MTV t-shirt lol
Many of their songs did not get the airplay or recognition that they deserved. MTB was one of if not the best rock bands.
@@jimcross3480 So true for me one of the greatest rock bands and me coming from the Jersey Shore. I luv Toy Caldwell thumb playing and his lyrics.

All is MTN fans need to flood rock and roll hall of fame no group deserves to be there more

I have always loved this song and MTB. Such a great band.

Toy Caldwell rips this s//t to shreds
Toy Cardwell and Doug with a jar of Jif and a can of Tunafish has nursed me some lean times
Just love my Tucker boys
Love this song

Indeed! How is this band not in the hall of fame yet?

Sorry curt
Southern Rock is the best.
Fantastic!!!
Playing their faces off like no one before, then or since.
The magic thumb ... miss the Caldwell brothers.... they where MTB
Toy's solo was for Tommy.

I'm surprised Toy has any skin left on his thumb!
why isn't the DVD with all the songs on it like this one and silver rado. there has to be one compete DVD live from garden state out there let me know
There used to be a video of this with incredible sound and video quality. It had ti disapear to many minds were blown away
The Thumb
It's clear that, by this time, with Tommy on bass dead and gone, Toy was hardly at his best as a soloist.
