The P226 is one of those overlooked guns. No one really trashes it or goes nuts for it, but its still always there. I personally love it! Even the older versions like this one. I think it looks super cool still!
NICE old West German P226 with the folded over slide and roll pinned block for the firing pin!!!! I have one made in 85 that has approximately 750 thousand rounds through it. I sent it to Sig in New Hampshire back in 2002 to have all the springs replaced and the entire weapon x-rayed and all parts checked, told them to replace anything needed. Sig called me and asked the round count and I told them it was just under 700k at the time. I told them I replaced the recoil spring every 7k and that was it. When I got it back 10 days later, I had all the original springs in a zip lock bag and new ones in the gun. The x-rays showed NO CRACKS anywhere, other than the springs the ONLY things replaced was the slide roll pins and the factory sights. I had installed a set of Sig factory Trigicon night sights in 1991 and the vials were way past their life span. There was NO CHARGE on the sights or roll pins, or the springs. I received a letter from the armored that did the work. He said the roll pins were in spec, but he replaced them due to age and use. He also stated that he had asked if he could re-blue the pistol. He was told I had not asked for that service. He stated if I wanted the pistol refinished, Sig would do it for FREE. Sig charged me for a basic weapon check, not the x-ray check I asked for. They even sent the x-rays so that I could see the pistol had ZERO cracks. I have another West German P226 along with WEST GERMAN made P220 in 45acp, P220 in 38 Super( never saw one for sale in the US, I got it from a guy who brought ot with him when he immigrated to America from Venezuela), a P225, P228, P230 and my treasured Sig 550!!! I own a lot of other Sig pistols and a few other rifles. I still carry my ORININAL P226 I bought so many years ago!!!! NEVER HAS IT HAD A MALFUNCTION EVER!!!! TO HELL AND BACK RELIABILITY IS NOT JUST A SLOGAN!!!!
Per your comment in your first 17 years of owning your P226 you put 700,000 rounds through it but only 50,000 in the last 21 years. If you don't mind my asking why did you stop shooting it so much? Also have you ever replaced the barrel? Just curious because most firearms need a new barrel around 10,000 rounds due to wear.
@@actionjackson1stIDFthe 700k has to be incorrect, even the mark 23 would not be in good shape after the 50k... replace parts and it would do fine but how does someone put 700k through one gun in the first place...
@@Stinkerpant6969 especially in 17 years. That 41,000 rounds a year which is 790 rounds a week or over 100 rounds a day. It's more than possible but the wear and tear on any firearm would be pretty severe. I have 4000 Round through a IMI Baby Eagle in 30 years and while its chrome barrel looks good you can see some wear starting to show. My own P226 has no where near that number of rounds but it has 2 factory barrels in .357 SIG and .40 S&W with about 1000 rounds through each. While it has never jammed in .357 SIG I cannot say the same for .40 S&W. I love the P226 and look forward to when I get my hand strength back so I can start carrying it again as my EDC.
@actionjackson1stIDF I stopped shooting that one so much because I bought 2 more West German made ones. Both used with very low round counts. The first one still has the factory original barrel in it, so does one of the 2 I bought later on. The other has a replacement barrel that is longer and threaded for suppressor use. Still have the factory barrel, but keep the can attached all the time. The first P226 has had the barrel checked 2 times now by Sig. The last time was in 2018, they told me it was at about 50% of the factory rifling. I may replace it, but do not shoot that one all that much anymore. I have worn out several barrels ( down to 25%) factory rifling on several handguns I own, mostly 1911s in 45 acp and 38 Super and one in 10mm. I had a Colt Delta Elite that Colt replaced due to multiple cracks in the frame and slide from using true 10mm, since then I rarely shoot my almost new, 1989 model Delta Elite.
