Rubato and shifting tempi is just what this magical piece demands of its performers! the swirling fourths/fifths/sixths are so evocative (the objective of all "tableaux") and depending what image is evoked in the performer's mind, needs to be played with (pun intended). Bravo Maestro Shishkin for understanding this and making this etude come alive! I'm striving to get to this level of interpretation
Dmitry, you're such a fantastic player and I love your interpretations. My teacher was Dmitry Rachmanov, a Scriabin enthusiast. I work in opera as a repetiteur but am always inspired by your beautiful interpretations. Take care and I hope you had a good holiday season.
Its a strange experience. it is so very easy to be carried away in the moment and lose your focus. when playing very difficult music this must not happen. this is how memory lapses happen.
How can every piece by Rachmaninoff be so beautiful? I sometimes wonder if he also wrote a bunch of terrible pieces that he threw in the garbage or if they all just happened to be perfect right off the bat. I would love to hear Dmitry play the ET Op 39 Nr 4, which is my favorite of the series.
Rachmaninoff was known to edit like a madman and still throw away a lot of what he wrote because he felt it wasn't good enough. But what he did allow the world to see was (in my humble opinion) nothing short of perfect.
It must be so satisfying to have a level of technique that just allows you to play anything you want. I truly envy those who grew up with parents that were cerebral enough to put them in piano lessons as a child. Despite me showing clear interest in music as a child sadly my family never took it seriously.
Of all the pieces written by Rachmaninoff this one has a very special place in my heart.
Beautiful interpretation.
Amen. It has a surreal majesty I've never encountered anywhere else.

How romantic Rachmaninov is!
You both are romantic, powerful, and true Russians.
Thank you so much, Dmitry!
We are just the listeners; imagine what it must feel like to be able to perform such beautiful pieces.

It's usually more enjoyable to listen trust me 😂
Just a listener? Speak for yourself lol
After learning a piece, you understand it better, but it's not as "magical" as hearing it for the first time
Exacto!
this is the first time i comment on a youtube video... but I cannot listen to this without saying
this is beautiful. thank you dimitri. ♥

I often wonder what it would be like to wake up each morning with melodies like this one running through my head
@@adriancameron8665 I always wonder the same, then I realize how limited my brain is compared to those legendary minds

This is wonderful playing, but also, I am amazed by how efficient and easy his technique looks. There's never any strain or visible effort
BEAUTIFUL!
beyond the best!

I think I like this as much as the Volodos one
Also don’t you think he looks a bit like the guy who plays Prince Charles in the Crown?
