After watching this TH-cam video, I KNEW that Permatex is the PERFECT rearview mirror "re-hang!!!!" I followed EVERY STEP OF THE INSTRUCTIONS and held the rearview mirror button in place, with the Permatex glue between the button and windshield, then we let it dry THOROUGHLY for TWO DAYS. I placed the rearview mirror over the button...AND THE REARVIEW MIRROR IS STILL IN PLACE!!!! I thank YOU, first, for this video, Permatex secondly and God!!!! THANK YOU!!!!
called permatex. they told me to use the green pad on the button also. did everything else like this video... it works... i didnt buy the kit for $9.00. had a razor blade and i had sandpaper and that saved me 6 bucks...
I have used this same kit. Works great. For some reason my Honda rearview mirror drops every couple of years, and always seems to do so on a very, very hot day when sitting in full sun at my workplace parking lot. But I get one of these kits and it's good to go again.
Thank you so much for posting this video. It's December and I was concerned that the temperature outside (mid to high 30s) would be an issue with applying the adhesive. This is the same product I found at Advanced Auto and I'm going to give it a shot. Thanks again!
i love the first comment on this video! In southern california that kit sells for $15 and is not available many places online in a single pack so $10 is not bad. Nice cherokee btw got a white one too :)
Is the Permatex rearview mirror still adhering to the windshield? I watched this video and went to Advance and bought this kit, the number 09102! Thank you!!!!
I have a VW Golf. The rear mirror is attached directly to the glass. It dropped and have not been able to attach it again. I have tried several products but none had worked. Please help me. Thank you. Hugo
I've used this kit twice now. Even waited to do it in the recommended temperature range... Failed. Albeit, one of the times lasted a couple months. They both failed. Looking to epoxy now.
@@DEInTheGarage just did mine 1 hr ago. Will put the mirror up tomorrow. Hopefully it holds. Thanks for the video! Wish me luck 😅 Edit: spelling (auto correct strikes again!)
Instructions say to apply in 50-75 F temperature. Probably makes the best 'permanent' bond. I am going to try this this aft... will let you know how I make out. (76F outside right now).
kind of jelly yours was only 9 mine was 12 in total and its kind of funny i also tried the double sided gorilla glue adhesive tape that said it holds 15 lbs it didn't work at all thanks for the video i shall try this tonight as well i saw one guy in the comments had some trouble i hope that doesn't happen and hope he got something to work o.o
Yea, I have encountered a few folks who had issues. I cannot speak to why, but I did mine in less than ideal conditions andalmost a year later it is rock solid still. Good luck!
1 drop is very subjective for the type of bottle the liquid comes in. I reckon you need enough to cover the metal bracket and not too much where it leaks out. I just did mine today, it didn't spread around the whole thing, i'd say it did 75% of the surface so I hope that will be good enough. Next time I will put a bigger 1 drop on.
How iis your mirror? I bought a digital mirror put it on, and 3 times now, it keeps falling off. ill try it again with this version of their product and hope for the best :)
Yeah tip that was great Market on the outside I kind of barked at a little like Ian circled it on the inside which help me find it easier on the outside real fast as I don't want to be on the total my car and I leaned over only. But yeah I was wondering how will the cleaner not get rid of my mark Not My Brightest moment thank you for stating the obvious cuz I was obviously not thinking
done told us wrong. must clean + prep both areas before applying. clean button+ glass with activator. permatex said not on package but once called they said do both.
The instructions say to only apply between 50 degrees and 75 degrees. Most of these things fall off in hot weather, as mine did (102 degrees). But even parked inside my garage out of the sun, it's 87 degrees and not likely to get down to 75 any time till late Sept. (It's now July) I hate to start off first thing by going against the directions. This guy did his too cold, how about too warm??
I used this kit yesterday in about 90 degree heat. I let button set for 3 hours. When I tried to attach mirror the button fell off. I am going to try again today with a new kit. I am going to run AC and flood windshied with cool water. hopefully it will stick this time. Also they sell a cheaper kit that only includes adhesive and cleaner. This instructions on that kit do not match this kit. I think those instructions were wrong. Specifically it said to not use activator on button, this kits says to do so. Also cheaper kit says to let activator dry for 2 mins before applying adhesive. In hindsight that is plain wrong. Clean both windshield and button and work it while still wet. The glue spot of the failed attempt fell off the windshield at the sight of a razor blade.
It worked for me in 85° weather. The best time to apply is at nighttime when it’s not so hot. Just make sure you send the parts and clean very well with the alcohol swabs and follow the directions it does work

Thanks for the feedback! Glad you found this helpful.
I especially liked your video because you obviously have not done this before, but by following directions, you had success.

Permatex is garbage. I used it like you and it falls every few years. Use the loctite a far better product.

Thanks for the vid, didn’t even realize there would be a screw. Fell off earlier today on my 2005 GMC Sierra

It certainly is against the directions, but mine has been good for about a year now.
My adhesive from Permatex did not have the sandpaper or razor blade but its cost was only around $5 so I'm happy. Good video! Thank you!
Thank you! Ive purchased 2 other brands and neither held the mirror up.

How well did it last?
I coulda figured it out, but your video provides the needed emotional support. Now, out to my 16 year old Chrysler Van with the mirror on the floor!!
That is what we are here for! Good luck!
Thanks, just getting ready to do my Jeep Wrangler... this helps make it easy :-)
hey thanks man. It's funny, I had just bought the same stuff a few days ago. I'm installing it today. thanks again.
Good luck with it! worked great for me

Followed instructions, etc., Waited an hour plus. Attached mirror, went to adjust, everything fell off in my hand. . . Will find another brand.
Harvey Floyd same thing happened with our mirror

I put a bigger one drop on and it did squeeze out the sides, but I'm hoping it'll be okay when I go to put the mirror on.

my windshield has the blk dots on it makes it harder stick
What if the back of the rear view mirror is not metal ?
What sucks is that mine didn't come with alcohol wipes or razor blades. Had to improvise and lucky for me I had some alcohol wipes

Great detailed video. Thank you.
run your defrost with the heat all the way up to get the windshield as hot as possible
That would have been a good idea. haha. I know for next time now
Dude thank you so much you solve my problem
Glad it helped!

Sorry to hear that. Mine has been going strong for a good 9 months now

just do it at night and let it sit overnight but you try to put the mirror on and you should be fine.
Mine popped out again this july in 101f. Last time it popped out was last year in July too. I need something else that can handle hot weather.
None of these product work for me. The manufacturers of these car must find a better way to install rearview mirrior on motorcar
