I have only one complain about audio quality: can you make audio louder? It's better than in video about Matt vs Japan, but still too quiet.
And I'm waiting for the video about reading. Cus it's the topic I'm interested in.

It really looks like Yoga truly is the real deal. I'm incredibly impressed. And the video is almost there as well. Video editing is on point, all he needs is a bit of audio work.

I think something super important about this is that you shouldn't feel discouraged by other people or ads saying stuff like "I became fluent in x months." Most of the time that's nonsense, and even if they're telling the truth, you shouldn't feel inadequate because as long as you keep at it you will reach your goals.

Hey man, thanks for the video. I been struggling with building discipline but I just can't seem to do that. When you said "Demanding far more than what you actually want to do will quite often lead to feel frustrated or to burn out." that right there rang true to me. Also about people not having a framework or a way to tackle goals. I feel like I have been demanding far too much of that I can handle and I have been going back and forth on why I just can't seem to muster willpower to do what "I am supposed to do". I believe I taken what other people have been doing for example to learn a new language and directly trying to do that instead of going on my own pace. From now on, I am going to start building discipline slowly. Anyways, thanks again!

I really love this type of content. As someone who works in the games industry right now, I can draw parallels with the long process of game making to the equally long process of learning languages; especially when learning a language isn't your primary hobby/ interest or if a person is unable to tackle languages full-time.
Thank you for all your amazing tool support so far! (I just found this channel recently) I really look forward to your own SRS system. I'm someone who tried Anki a few times and kept trying to get into it; but after seeing such large numbers of necessary reviews daily, it felt quite daunting after the end of a hard day at work.
I'm learning Cantonese, so for me to extract subtitles from movies to use with Anki doesn't quite work as almost everything is written in standard written Chinese, so I decided to drop Anki about 3 months into my language journey. I've been at Cantonese for exactly a year this month; and I study 1+ hours a day, and most weekends 3 hours on Saturday and another 3 on Sunday. I can also appreciate that some people are able to do more, and others can only stomach much less.
I've been using songs and some custom script in google docs to hide and unhide the romanization. Doing this, I am able to enjoyably listen to the content (songs) over and over again. This and the FSI drills (along with lots of native-speaker correction) helped me now become completely comfortable with the 9 tones' romanization in Cantonese and I can read these without needing recordings (which was my initial hurdle..) Songs also help with character recognition, especially when different songs often talk about similar subjects (hopes, dreams, sky, emptiness, love, etc..)
Anyways, I'm blabbering on now. What I wanted to say was Anki is not the only answer here. There are other ways you can enjoyably engage in the language and experience spaced repetition. That being said, I'm really excited to see what new development you have in store, especially if you create one with much more understandable UI! Cheers!

The goal tips were really was nice, lately with my own Immersion I've been putting in time during really late hours. Between school, helping others, etc., does take away from the Immersion but even then I still feel good about those midnight hours even if it's not every single day. Missed out on my anki reps but have been immersing with L2 subs and I am watching shows above my level but I'm understanding something new even subconsciously every time I go back. "Goals have costs which must be paid"
This is why everyone is scared to learn new things these days. We're so used to instant gratification, that a lot of people aren't used to sacrificing for things they want. You'll often see people get disappointed at not being immediately good at new things they try, despite how good they're actually doing in the learning process.

I love how if you compare Migaku to other immersion based methods/approaches like AJATT, MIA or even Steve Kaufmanns LingQ it feels more balanced and rounder!
AJATT and MIA always felt like drill sergeants that tells you to just blindly do the work and then the results will come and then they will motivate you!
LingQ always felt like the kindergarten teacher, kind of like the immersion version of traditional results as in don’t focus on wanting to reach high levels instead have fun and reach the levels you reach!
Migaku feels more like the kind encouraging coach, the goal is to reach high levels but we have to work from the level we’re at now both in terms of language ability but also discipline ability!

It takes a long time for your brain to figure out how to parse a foreign language, and you don't have to understand everything at the very beginning of your immersion.

You took a fairly easy sentence for the German comparison. If you translate the one you did for Japanese, I would say it like this in german "morgen gehen wir zum Japanischklub, möchtest du mitkommen?" Or "morning go we to Japanese club, want you with come?"
German has major grammatical differences, and some significant expression differences, but you need to get to a high level grammatically to see that. Of course, I am studying Chinese now, and the way they think is far more bizarre to English speakers than German, but German still does get quite bizarre in some cases.

when i learned english sometimes i had phases were i wouldn't touch it for months (i think it is called interleaved learning) . in the end i still became "fluent". at least for the comprehension part.
my speaking might be a bit flawed, because i have never really practiced it^^.
what i want to say is: just relax and reengage when you have replenished!
once you have raised your comprehension above a certain level you can "immerse" in the language everyday without studying it anymore. and your need for those kind of breaks will diminish.
If you can keep in contact with the language it would be better of course, but some breaks are not as harmfull as one might think.

@@suras8849 oh man, thank u very much. That was really Motivating to read. I know thia stuff doesn't work over night. I could definetly be better rn but i chose to kinda go more slowly. For me the most problem is vicabular atm i think. I can get my head around not full understanding grammar because i still get the Gist of it but without the Word itself u are kinda lost. I stumble over so many words that discribe the same thing but slightly different and i kknda get scared to have to understand to much. But when i think of it in englisch or my mother tongue i also dont understand everything perfect. I lately figured i dont know very accurate what *corresponding* means but i kidna got a gist of it and never gave it a second thought in englisch but when it came up in Japanese *forgot it allready * i was like
.. Why do i not understand man xD
Anyway i think the major difficulty is now to over come all the vocabs that hinder me from understanding most of japanese. Like in every language many words for the same thing 利用 or使う for example or 蒸発 and 気化 or whatever. U get what i mean. Anyhow. Thanks for the motivation ^^

I am currently dealing with a similar issue. The way i try to handle it is switching back and forth between intensive and extensive reading and it kind of works. Since we probably have learned english that way i think we can do it in japanese as well. (During exentsive reading i like to use furigana)

Hey guys...I know Yoga had a bad falling out with Matt and I don't hate on either one. What I WANT is to finally stop putting off learning Japanese (was a MIA patreon 'guy' before), and finally do it. Having said that...Will I get the tools I need like lazy Kanji and plug-ins for Anki, and support (better) from Yoga or Matt? I just want opinions and I hope BOTH guys the best on what they want to do in life. I'm not going to take sides. Thx! (I know the monolingual transition Yoga may not agree with, which I don't see how it can't be beneficial, but maybe he disagrees with 'timing')

@@kevinbrown9751 yh start by going through the MIA starter guide(Matt), then get your add-ons Migaku Japanese, Migaku Editor, etc (Yoga). About the patreons, it's up to you man, if you like both Yoga and Matt you can support them at the same time. If you prefer one to the other you can support only that person. It isn't a must to support them.

@@kevinbrown9751 Matt can be summed up as "immerse". Nothing Matt does will save you time. In fact, it will waste your time since it's all in English. The add-ons have saved me dozens of hours easy.

Is it still useful to immerse if you are doing it without "studying", like only watching a show for the enjoyment and sometimes 2-3mins go by without a word being understood?
Sometimes I get the feeling I'm immersing the wrong way

    • @suras8849
      @suras8849 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

From my own experience it is very helpful to do so. This way you can associate your target language with fun and not only with work;)
Also the brain will pick up sentence patterns and vocabulary if you watch without studying. Even if you use subtitles in your mother tongue. (Of course you should try to understand, but it is OK if it feels less intense than deliberate study )
It is a bit like the difference between intensive and extensive reading. One should do both!
      I hope that helps
