Excalibur is right, they do need a good amount of care but at the same time not as much as a dog or cat. I had a 100 gallon tank for two dragon fish and a few ghost shrimp, then a 75 gallon tank for 6 gold fish and more ghost shrimp. They all grew up to a good size. What I loved was when I came up to the tank they all would swim up to me but swim away for any other person. They remembered me.
Matt, take it from a longtime fish owner, that goldfish will need at least a 100 gallon tank when full grown, a filter, and water changes about every 2 weeks. They are not the easiest pets to care for. I'm telling you this out of respect and the belief that you can take on the big responsibility of goldfish ownership. I trust that you will do the right thing when it comes to your new scaled friend and provide it a proper home. I love your channel and your vids. Good luck and keep up the good work!

Goldfish get huge. You definitely need a filter. They like cold water. They eat and eat and eat so you have to watch how much you feed them. They like pebbles because they pick and dig through them. Seriously, you need a massive tank or pond for a goldfish with a very good filter.
Exactly! They're a type of carp I believe so they get absolutely massive. I got pretty frustrated when that lady said all they need is a bowl. That's how they die, that's how they get sick, that's how they get stunted.

I won a Goldfish from the Carnival once. Turned out it wasn't a Goldfish. Found this out when she outgrew the bathtub then the swimming pool. After a tearful farewell she was air lifted and released into the ocean. Never did find out what she actual was but i do know once a year she returns to the area she was released in just to say Hi. Last time she had two baby what ever she is with her : ' ).

We won a fish one time at the fair. Took it home and plopped it in the tank. It grew to be the size of my hand. And when it died we tried flushing it down the toilet. It got stuck so my dad had to take the toilet off the floor and fish it out lol. Damn thing lived forever!! Good childhood memory that I'll always remember.

You will need a large tank for your goldfish. Bowls stress them out, and they’re way too small. A filter and minimal decoration are highly recommended.

We won some from the fair, started with a 5 gallon tank, and now have a 55 gallon tank. Gold fish will grow even in a small tank or bowl and can reach up to a foot long.

That is one of the cutest looking carnivals. My least favorite carnival prize to cart home are the giant, oversized plushes. Those are a Pain!

I remember winning this game 1 time, I got to bring the goldfish home! Been living since last June, and still alive!
I loved all the games except for the fish bowl. Because of the fact that games that give away live animals are never a good idea. It leads to animals being mistreated and suffering for either a short time or a long time. While also making some kid's parents have to buy stuff to home the animal. The girl is either very misinformed or just is lying. (I say either because she is a teen and might be reciting what's she's been told to). But no, every fish needs a tank and filter.
Kate Wolf she contradicted herself. She was trying to explain oxygenating the water which relies on a pump/filter system. I think the mom in the back could’ve done more to help explain the care needed than just sitting back doing nothing.

it encourages people to impulsively get a pet they aren't ready for and creates a mentality that it's disposable even though it's a animal.
also a lot of the fish end up dying in some of the cruelest ways possible.most goldfish that are won at the fair either die from ammonia poisoning cause from being put in a uncycled tank in a tank way to small for them.the ones that do survive will dying from stunt which is where their outsides stops growing but their organs keep growing.
also not to mention how stressful it is for the fish.having balls bounce off their tank and being carried around all over the fair if they are won when people aren't ready to go home.

My son (I) won a gold fish at the Phoenix state fair last year and now this sucker is a good 5 inches long upgraded his tank from 3.5 gal to 60. Almost a year later hes still huge and happy

For some reason I started laughing the second I saw Matt3756.
Please please please do not support these carnival games that give fish as a prize. I know people think they’re “just fish” but it’s not fair how they suffer. Most will go to homes that never wanted a fish and have little to no knowledge of their needs. Most will die in a couple of days due to lack of education but also the stress they’re put under during the process. Goldfish are such lovely relaxing pets, not prizes. Matt if you did win one please watch some videos on their care, there’s lots of amazing ones on TH-cam. Or give the little guy to someone who’s going to care for it the best it can! Awesome shot though!

I agree 100%. And no they don’t just need aeration. They need a cycled filter system. And adequate tank. Weekly water changes, and of course don’t release them in the lakes

Agreed! I used to love the game when I was younger but now seeing it gives me anxiety! I’ve seen teens my age (18) using the fish as punching bags (don’t worry I have them money for the fish and the fish lived a good life). I think they shouldn’t have this as a game anymore since they are living creatures! It’s upsetting to know that people will try to win them without liking them. And they really don’t tell you proper care. Goldfish live up to 10 years in captivity on average and people think they only live a few weeks because of improper care!

My four goldfish are pretty big and they live in a huge tank with a bottom feeder, we feed them twice a day and clean out their tank weekly. We also change up the decor every few weeks.

I hate winning the goldfish games. While it’s one of the only carnival games that is fairly easy to win, the goldfish never last longer than a week. They’re always the 13 cent ones from the store. When I was younger, I’d get really attached to them and they’d always die off, leaving me heartbroken. That’s why I recommend just going to the pet store and buying the 50 cent “fancy goldfish”. They get pretty big, but I got one almost 4 years ago and he’s still doing well🙂
The goldfish will live a long full life, if you set it up in a proper tank and take good care of it. The can live almost two decades

I didn't win a carnival game to get a goldfish. Instead, when I was coming back from the restroom at a carnival, some kids had won goldfish but didn't want them. They had been walking around, trying to find someone who would take them, but couldn't find anyone. They asked me and my two sisters and, stupidly, we took all 3 gold fish. They died within...a week I think, but that was a few months ago. Note to self: dont try and keep a carnival fish alive. They will not survive long because of the habitat they were in before you got them. They were not dead and swam in a very tiny bowl until a ball fell in one. Just a note for future people who want to win a fish. Just dont
