I have to say that was some rough crane picks , with a jib on and that far out seem like the lift guy would have rigged alittle better, it wasn't for lack of reach. You will probably say he was good for 8 or 9 grand and I was only lifting out 2 or 2500 lbs piece, but the object is to rig cut then let the crane lift , crane guys will like you more.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I am learning for sure. This was my first full removal job with a crane. It's quite different from rigging without a crane. Do you have any practical advice to help me rig more smoothly with a crane?

When a pick is looked at you have to find the heavy side rig it to take the tension first then go to your other side for balance, so the second pick in video the one that laid on it side should have been rigged on some of those long limbs then a second chocker to the log , in some circumstances it better to take those limbs off then pick the log , and when picking logs always use 2 chokes across from each other. I saw one pick in there that look like it fell down like the crane didn't have much tension on it , always remember to tension to at least 3/4 of the weight that is being pick and you can watch your cut to see if you need the crane to add or reduce tension. But go and watch men like Reon Rounds and August Hunicke the make some top notch crane videos.

Watch reon rounds and August you’ll learn. All those pics were very rough everything is to be static no shock load at all. If you continue that practice you will get hurt guaranteed. Not bashing in any way. Own my own company and specialize in crane work. It’s very different but done properly much more efficiently

That wasn’t even a crane worthy tree anyway. Do u think who ever topped a few years ago even had a man lift like the red ? That tree could have been roped Dow easy with just the man lift. Heck we did them every day on my crew for the electric company with just rope and saddles and not all that crap that people where now days we didn’t need that fancy stuff I didn’t have a bucket truck and yes we handtoted all of it to the truck

Nice of that neighbor to leave his truck parked in the landing zone! Did you have to use the small crane to attach the jib?

Ya, the little crane took it off a semi-truck trailer and helped attach it to the big one! It took a little bit to set up but from then on, we were in FULL SWING!

I don’t think your crane operator was having much fun that day.
