You two are amazing! Your positivity and openness are truly inspirational. I am tuned in and look forward to watching your journey to Alaska :) All the best!
I honestly don’t know how to respond to this. THANK YOU! This is completely out of the blue. Kalyn and I were filling water when this notification popped up and we just both stared at each other, speechless. We are putting this directly into the Alaska fund and you’ll see it reflected in the video that will release on December 22nd. Again…wow and Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. -J
I'm usually good at packing things down but the the dripping diesel broke me. When we were finalizing this video Kalyn laughed when I named that particular section in the youtube chapters "The Truck Wins (Joseph loses)" -J
Hey Joe, I grew up working on things as a mechanic. My Mother stated one time after I had screwed up, Learning is expensive son, and your education is going to be costing you the rest of your life. lol She was right now I am 65 and still learning. New project is replacing the reclining love seat in out 30 ft fifth wheel camper.
I know I am late to watch this episode, but I had such a lump in my throat for Joe after all he went through trying to fix the truck...that defeat really tugged at my heart. You two make a great team. I love that you give each other just the right amount of razzing but also know when to dial it down. Glad everything got fixed in the end, and you were able to get a good night's sleep, a break away from the rv, and a good meal together, and be able to enjoy the incredibly overwhelming relief of having a working truck again.
The beauty of youtube is there is no "Late!" 🙂 Thanks so much for this. Kalyn got a little flack from people in this episode and some following because they didn't understand our collective sense of humor. (Not a lot of flack mind you, we've genuinely been blessed with the awesomest people in the comment sections) While it wasn't a lot it was to the point where I was questioning if I was editing in a way that made our relationship look bad. So...this comment was so uplifting to know that you see it. You see that we know each other well enough to know when is the right time where it will break through the frustration and lend perspective, and when it's just time for a hug. Thank you so much. -J
A condition for someone that doesn't know their limitation is Dementia. I must suffer from it, because I try many things that I shouldn't and should get an expert. But, I also will surprise myself, occasionally on what I can do that I had never tried before. I like that you maintain a positive attitude through all this when many would have thrown in the towel. Having a good partner is worth "her' weight in gold. I've subscribed and have been clicking thumbs up.
@@OpenRoadingI discovered early in life two things. First, a man will do more for a woman than he'll do for just himself. Second, about the third time around a man will decide to settle for doing things just for himself than doing things for another woman. 😅😅😅
You were not wrong to try to fix it yourself. I have ridden that roller coaster myself. I have also reached the state of frustration and exhaustion you did, but am proud to have persevered. You should be too. Keep fighting the good fight!
I think it’s awesome that you show us even the tough times you encounter along the way. This fuel tank fiasco and the reactions you both had to it and the honesty you showed is very endearing and makes us feel more connected with you
So glad you were able to connect with it. This was one of the toughest videos because in our first 2 tries I was adamant about not showing hard times. And even in this one I needed a moment to just process (When I told Kalyn I couldn't do video at that moment) but the amount of people who have reached out to say "I get that" or "I felt that" has been truly overwhelming. I just hope we don't get too many more opportunities to "showcase" this down the road. I get a lot more enjoyment out of silly bets and fun adventures. 😂 -J
13:19 the best part is that you're very familiar with your fuel system! Since this is so old, you may have figured it out - there's a great little battery jump starter available! It works great on my big diesel and very compact!
I felt so sad for you about the truck repair. We've been there. Fun fact I was born in bismark ND and my father was stationed at grand forks. You give us hope we can fail and still keep smiling. ❤❤❤stay positive.
Sometimes you have to learn something the hard way...this was my time. 🙂 As is almost all my other projects I attempt to do myself. LOL I've got a brother who lives in Whapeton! So I've been getting more and more familiar with North Dakota over the past couple of years! -J
For 40 years my short days at work were 12 hours. The long days were 20 hours . One year during a maintenance turnaround we worked 29 days in a row and a minimum of 16 hours . Now I’m retired and sure don’t miss it at all.
@@OpenRoading At least you don’t have the recalled Ram pickups with Cummins engines! Cummins agreed to pay fines of $2 billion. Hope things are better now. BTW. My opinion, Fords are way harder to work on.
Joe, it was tough but you got it running. I would suggest reviewing some videos on TH-cam first to help you understand how the job is done first before you start. No shame in the game of doing it yourself. It may have cost you more time but last money. Now you can share your experience on how to get it done with the next Joe. You guys have me hooked I will follow you for ever, you keep it real. Thanks
Thank you so much for the encouragement and feedback. The hilarious thing is I did give myself a youtube education on this 😂😂😂😂. The problem was I was looking at videos for F250s that were one model cycle OLDER and thus...they had the in tank filter that mine did not. I did have to do a LOT of searching though to find a good video on how to unclip the fuel lines though and that one I REALLLLLY should have fount prior. haha. Live and learn...live and learn. -J
Yeah....that was a rough several days. Not really pictured...riding the motorcycle 40 miles round trip in 30-40 degree weather every day for the beet harvest. 😂 -J
😂 You got the in person experience. I have a bit of video on the cutting room floor from day 2 or 3 where I was like "Seriously...no one can tell I'm not shaving...." -J
Thanks. The best part is that I didn't fix it. 😂 By the end of it all it still had the same problem...and my brother solved it with a fuel additive. 😂😂😂😂😂😂 -J
Hey Joe, as a former mechanic on bowling equipment, one thing I learned over the years (28), it doesn't matter how many times you put something back together. If it doesn't work... then have to do it over again. But sometimes you just gotta take it to an expert. I love the fact that you did all that you could and then took it to someone. Glad you got it fixed. ❤
I was about to cry when I realized I had to drop the tank a 3 (or was it 4th?) time. 😂 I really needed more sleep. But yeah, this taught me (I hope) to be quicker at realizing when a job is too far over my skis to try to do without someone more knowledgable looking over my shoulder. -J
I’m 68 and have been shooting photos since 2010. I went from a Motorola phone with a simple camera to a Nikon D700. The learning curve was very steep and I made a lot of mistakes. I’m still learning and probably will be for the rest of my life… If you think you know it all, you’re only fooling yourself. Education is a lifelong experience.
Indeed it is! Love that you continue to tackle things. I want to follow your lead and continue to learn every day. Thanks so much for the encouragement. -J
I laughed out loud at "the wrench hit me in the face" 😂. Also, I was literally thinking halfway through the video, "little sleep and scruff looks good on, Joe".
Haha! If a sentence described that week of truck "repairs" that was it. The scruff is gone. Kalyn and I are both happy. I don't know how all you beard lovin' people do it. It's annoying as all get out. -J
Thanks! The other person encouraged me to let y'all know how much I enjoy your adventures. I look forward to your honest and hopeful representations of getting through life and making the best of it!!!
Ann, there is no doubt in our minds that you are one of our biggest fans. You were a huge encourager before we even dipped our toes back into the youtube game. We will always remember the care package you sent us when we lost our dear Cinder. Thank you for your generosity but thank you even more for being that huge source of huge encouragement. -J&K
hahaha! One of the few smart things I've done was asked Ford people what Ford to buy before buying my truck. It was unanimous "AVOID THE 6.0 LIKE THE PLAGUE THAT IT IS!" I'm not sure I'd go with a Ford next time, but this girl has over 200,000 miles and is still taking us where we need to go. -J
I had a 2005 6.0 liter that I drive for 125,000 miles and it ran flawlessly . I did have the main computer go out on me under warranty but other than that it was great. I just did regular maintenance religiously. I did have to replace the front wheel bearings one time .
@@OpenRoadingif your not using a good fuel additive I would start. It will help your fuel pump live A LOT longer . If that fuel pump ( cp4) breaks it’s an insane amount of money to get fixed.
I grew up around this and i may have picked some up. There wasnt a thing my dad didnt know how to do, or LEARNED how to do. My Dad and Brother have passed and TH-cam is the go to place. What i have learned is TH-cam is a great place to learn or get showed how to do something. My husband and i had to put a section of subfloor in by the backdoor. We had to watch this guy on TH-cam, Man did he give us confidence. That guy made it look so easy.
I love youtube university! It's only taken me down the wrong path a couple of times and usually even then it was my own fault. I actually did our solar install after what felt like a 3 credit course worth of TH-cam videos 😂. 5 years in and the off grid system is still workin! But I'm NEVER dropping my fuel tank EVER again. 😂😂😂😂 -J
If you ever have to temove the fuel pump again its amazing how much easier to do by removing the truck bed. There are only six torx bolts to remove, a few for the fuel neck and a few wire plugs in the back. No draining and filling the tank and you can see if it works right away. It only takes two medium strength people to lift it off. Of course its only this easy if you don't have a fifth wheel hitch. Also in a rust prone area the bolts are stuck but my first time on my old ford it was only 30 minutes.
Thanks for the tip! After this whole experience I'm pretty sure I'm leaving anything this large to the professionals. Now if a professional is helping me along the way, then I'll do it in the shade of a tree again. 😂 -J
@@OpenRoading I like it! My wife’s curious if there’s work to be had for someone with a disability. She broke her back 10 years ago. She’s fine now but can’t stand for long periods.
@@robertburns5145 That's a good question. For the beet harvest there are a few weigh station operators, but those positions are VERY hard to get. I'm not even sure if that position would be good with a back injury though because the windows are at standing level so you're still on your feet for most of the day. Many campgrounds have workcamping positions where people work the registration booth where they are sitting for a good chunk, if not all of their shift. I know the campground I worked at in Michigan had several positions like that. -J
Just saw this video and have been following. Joe is one hell of A guy. Working the beet job and trying to fix his truck. In a campground no doubt!!! He's a hustler! Kudos!!!
So cool, best channel Not running around in a monster frame flex disaster and shiney new truck. Im 2015 f150 and a 1994 Citation 27ft 5r repainted my stripes 6 years ago 👍
I hope to get a "newer" truck in a year or two This beast needs an overhaul and I'm not sure I want to sink the money into that as opposed to upgrading. Time will tell but hopefully we don't lose you then! We'll still be the same people! -J
Love to see you all being real. Word to the wise. Looks like alot of time you go for hikes / store. Roll up your awning, they are not cheap, one gust of wind.....awning gone
@@christaunton5675 Thanks! I don't think we've ever left the RV together with the awning out...(Maybe I'm forgetting a time?), but I' watched someone else's awning get blown up over their rig one time and that taught me that lesson real well! Our awning is in need of replacement though...so maybe I should let the weather do it's thing someday. LOL (I kid of course - It could also damage the roof and solar panels) -J
Enjoyed meeting you and helping with the fuel tank! This is probably the most realistic depiction of the everyday aspect of full time RV life on youtube ;-).
ROBERT! I'm so glad you stopped by and commented! I was kicking myself because I written down the social handle you gave me. You were a true lifesaver that day. Between lending jack stands, a battery charger, along with your own two hands - you made it possible for us to actually get the truck to the mechanic. THANK YOU THANK YOU! -J
Today is the first time i was showed your channel. I have a feeling your recent video about work camping is going to blow your channel up fast. You do a great job with the energy and editing, adding music when it helps keep the story flowing. We have been full time and YouTubing for four years, keep making good content like this and the subs and views will come fast. Just keep people wondering what will happen next in your story. It’s a lot of work doing a video like this, we know. Larry
Thanks for the encouragement, Larry! This is our third go around with trying TH-cam (traveling for 4 years) but we think we finally found our footing and “style” with it. -J
If you are not connected to water, instead of using tank water to add to your empty black, capture some of your grey water, and dump it into the toilet!
We do a LOT of boondocking so I've considered something like this. The primary thing that keeps me from doing anything more than considering it is the fact that our gray tanks build up their own odor very quickly and I don't have any desire to leave open gray water sitting anywhere in the RV or have the hassle of extra containers of gray water floating around simply for this purpose. In this particular situation we had full hookups so there were no water & sewer issues. -J
i really feel for you.... my big fear is fuel contamination.. that causes problems with the fuel system... we used to run lots of ford diesels at work.. now strictly gas, a bad high pressure pump is just way too expensive to tolerate.. watching you gave me the hebejebies.
That was something. As they say you have earned your stripes, both of you are to be congratulated sticking it through that challenge. Stay away from the Red River, it has a strong current. Did you know it flows north not south? I grew up in Fargo North Dakota and as a kid recall many individuals trying to swim and boat in it, losing their lives. Really like your videos.
just found your site today. on the truck repair topic- people that don't try things, never make mistakes. or learn new things. i once replaced the engine starter on one of our cars. it wouldn't work afterward. hmmm. was able to get it to a local mechanic, there was a loose wire inside the starter housing that wasn't making contact. who knew? he probably had had this happen in his many years of experience i don't remember the details. i worked on this in my house garage, we had another car etc. so the level of inconvenience was very minor. just my ego was damaged! Joseph DID NOT lose.
Appreciate that. Generally making mistakes is part of life I'm used to. This one was a tough pill to swallow just because it affected our lives for what felt like soooo long. -J
I know this video happened a while ago but I have send you two a LOT of love and respect!! It takes one h£[[ of a strong relationship to get through something like that, without totally loosing your cool. Re: the term for a DIYer doing mechanical work that is way over your head… That would be called a “Shade Tree Mechanic. Of course, SOME people can get away with it… SOMETIMES. I actually made a living at it for a while. I even wound up with 3 ASE certifications. Been following you two for a short while and have a LOT of respect for you.
I appreciate that! We've gone though a lot of ups and downs that have strengthened us to the place where we'd never want to be living in a cardboard box under a bridge together, but if it were to ever happen, we'd find a way out of it together. 💪🏻 -J
Joe, I felt your pain through the entire video. Been there too many times. I was worrying about the battery the first time you tried to prime and start it (been there too...). You definitely learned a lot through this process, and hopefully experienced God's grace and mercy too.
A lot of God's grace and mercy! The fact that Robert came over to lend a hand was a huge example of that. One thing I learned for sure is if instructions for the repair include "Drop the fuel tank" I'm gonna take it to a mechanic. 😂 -J
Shoot when I lived in a RV Resort that line stayed open you crap flush it goes down the in the ground. Close it off grid, if stay 2 days etc in a campground Hook it up let it flow
It may have to do with the size of the tank and the proximity of the toilet pipe to the tank outlet. Our toilet is a good bit of distance from the outlet valve and the bottom of the tank is barely inclined...so the waste can build up. But as long as there's a good bit of liquid in there anytime we dump - no problems! -J
@@OpenRoading then I can't remember if mine tilted but I know was allot of liquid gone down. Hose I used about the same size, used a plumbing piece glued it inside of factory tube worked a cap to close it but a hose was same size as factory mounted tube.
I'm only 74, but in the past I have changed engines a couple of times by the side of the road. Once in Wyoming and once in Oregon. Now I will be changing pistons in my 7.3 Powerstroke Excursion. Good times.
Yeah. I've got to be better on knowing my limits. I do like doing things myself where I can along with learning new things...but sometimes that can sure get me into trouble. -J
No, I don't enjoy your misery. LOL!! I'm just so excited that you finally got it fixed, had a restaurant meal, got out of the trailer, and went grocery shopping!! And Joe can totally pull off the scruffy look.

well hard one to watch since ive been there . Oh and by the way the word your looking for is shittastrafy... We use it all the time here at work when nothing else fits. Hope your trip in Alaska is going great.
We appreciate your video about the beat harvest and all the frustrations with your vehicle. We have had similar experiences with our own DIY disasters. Yours is one of the most authentic channels we have come across. Thank you for your candid honesty!! I have to say, I really love the interior decor, have you done a tour video of your RV yet? God bless you and we hope to meet you down the road someday! 😊
So impressed with Joe's ability to stay calm in the face of total frustration. Or in his a ability to edit! I have a frustrating Ford issue which I am basically sleeping off at the moment in freezing weather but it's with the lights So admire both of yours composure.
"Or his ability to edit" made my day. 😂 Lights are kind of important at night! Right up there with fuel lines. I hope you get it figured out with minimal trips to the auto parts store. -J
Amazing patience you both have! This is truly an inspiration! I would have given up a long time before that. Glad everything is fixed. Hope everything else continues on the up hill. Love the positive attitude from the wifey making sure you stay ok and focus. Bless you guys. 🙏

Oh my goodness. I could sense the frustration levels rising...but way to hang in there eating from your pantry and making the best of it! And kudos to you both for letting us in on both the good and the bad! SO thankful the truck is finally fixed too! 🎉
When clean shaven you somehow look older. At some point maybe the scruff would be too much but as of right now you still look 10 times better than when you have no scruff at all.
@@OpenRoading I think you look youthful but manly with the scruff, although.... I would just go with the one you get kisses from and keep the face silky smooth how she likes it. 😁
I have to say Kudos to you both. None of this has been easy for either of you. The best harvest sounds like just very grueling work and then to have to work on the truck without any sleep you two are amazing. I would have lost it along time ago. You two have nothing but respect from me. I lived in AK for 20 years and I sincerely hope it will be worth everything you have gone through to get there. It is beautiful country and you will see some amazing views. Until then I hope you get the rest you need. His bless. ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for watching (and for also encouraging us with such kind words.) We both agreed that if Joseph does the beet harvest again, we should NOT try to tackle any extra projects until it's over. 🙃 - K
I know two things about the beet harvest from listening and watching folks talk about it. First, I'm too old to do that twelve hours of work on my feet and with a bad back and in cold weather. Second, I'd rather get beat up than do beets. 😮 I also know two things about working on trucks. I don't have the desire or will, that's why I prefer someone else does it who can. Second, I'd lose my patience with the attempt fast and probably break something else, thus the best reason to let a professional do it. 😅 I know two more things about your show. I totally felt Joe's frustration. Second, you lady are his reason to persist. 😊
You are 1000% correct on that last statement! And it's better to know that beets are better left to someone else before your first day on the job so good work on the research. 🙂 -J
@@OpenRoading As Clint Eastwood once said in a movie, "A man has to know his limitations". If I can ever achieve road life I'll prefer work as a campground host. I can do that, especially if I'm using a golf cart to haul garbage bags to a dumpster or answer common questions. I'm really loving your channel too.
A DIWhoops is what I call them. My dad is a whiz with auto mechanics and as much as I try, I don't think I inherited the gene. I'm always one over-torque or the tiniest bit of patience away from disaster and usually find myself there. I hate those crimp clamps! Glad everything worked out in the end!
It is a good idea. I have on my list to research it out. I may have to shift my battery bank to make it happen and I'm also concerned about added weight. -J
Just found your channel today and subscribed. My husband works in rhe oils fields in North Dakota, and ine year rhey didn’t have work for him for two months. So they sebt him to Northern Minnesota to the beat harvest.
Build a platform in your storage area so you can store stuff on two levels and everything will be more accessible. We have a truck camper and we have to store a lot of stuff in the truck so we took out one back seat and built a platform and it works really well. You can even add retractable ratchet straps to secure everything for moving around. Happy trails.
Thanks for this suggestion. I really appreciate it! I'm still working on a more long term storage solution and I'll stick this in my idea bank. My biggest concern is weight. I don't want my solution to be so heavy that I have to be concerned about the weight of my stuff.
@@davidgarcia6315 Which video was that? The one with the helicopter? There was a bit of drama around that one. I uploaded it at our normal time but took it down 4 hours later due to audio issues. I fixed them and the it re-uploaded the following morning. -J
I think "trying to make it better and ending up getting to do a lot more work" may become my new life motto. 😂 Thanks for the encouragement and thanks so much for subscribing! -J
Man this was an unforeseen issue and looks like it was a pain to deal with. You should be VERY glad that this happened now instead of on your planned trip to Alaska. I commented to you guys in a previous video about just such an unforeseen things like the fuel issue you might need to deal with way far away from help, mechanic, auto store or even a campground. It was fortunate that you had planned to be in a fixed location for a few weeks and had access to a camp site, water and HELP. If you are still planning the Alaska trip soon please try to have as many contingency plans in place before embarking on that journey. Working on a diesel truck is not really a DIY option unless it is a minor maintenance issue like oil change, filter, tires. The fuel systems are very complicated with high and low pressures and return lines to the tank and they have a lot of monitoring systems that can get knocked out of wack very easily that can lead to catastrophic engine issues and even failures. I will commend you for your attempts at doing repairs just be careful and check and double check to make sure that stuff is returned to how it was taken apart. Something to consider is a second battery for the truck with isolator and switch to separate charging to each battery. Not sure what year your Ford is but some have second battery tray in engine compartment where second battery can be mounted. Good luck and hope you guys have a safe journey to your next adventure.
Thanks for the advice. Diesels are always so much fun aren't they? 😂 Our EGR/DPF failed in 2021 in West Virginia and we ended up sitting for 2 weeks while it got repaired. I agree whole heartedly with you on contingency plans but I also know that we cannot plan for absolutely everything. There's a higher than zero percent chance that something will go wrong that we aren't prepared for - at which point we'll do what full time RV travel requires, be flexible and embrace the journey. -J
I was waiting for the follow up since your last one! The cliffhanger was really strong & I am happy to see that things worked out without spending tons of $$. All it costed you was hours and hours of frustration, which happens to be free 😂 You guys are awesome to watch & I'm already looking forward to next week's video!
"All it costed you was hours and hours of frustration, which happens for free" 😂 I literally burst out laughing. In all fairness....It cost me the repair kit and then the actual mechanic to fix my mess up - but thankfully not thousands of dollars. Thanks so much for the compliment! Next week should be more fun and less...um...emotional. -J
Looked it up! Love it. Totally describes me. 😂 And I'd have to go as far to say I'm not a "Good" shade tree mechanic which tells you all you need to know. -J
All this trouble builds Character. A membership to AAA with RV is a BIG plus having. Doc’s Diesel for filters Archoil diesel treatment will be your best friend. They make other good things to. Cleans important components. I have the same truck. Just did transmission flush, U-joint replace, differentials clean outs, makes it reliable. Pulling is hard work for truck.

Thanks so much for the encouragement. It's so much more challenging to be without a vehicle when you're on the road! But we make it through or we wouldn't be doing this, right? -J
That or youtube mechanics. We had a lot of people come in, or get towed in, because they watched some videos but things didn't go quite right. But good job on pulling and lifting that tank so many times, it's not a fun job even with a hoist.
You just gotta let the beard get past the baby stage. My wife also doesn't like my beard so for me it's an uphill battle as I usually rock a full beard, but the stubbly scruff stage is rough😅 like two months it'll look solid. I also greatly appreciate the struggle you two went through for this I've been in similar types of situations many times and understand thoroughly the weight of defeat. Kudos to you for the effort, you made it further than I would've.
The stubbly scruff stage is as far as I will ever get...pretty sure of that. 😂 Thanks so much for the kind encouragement. It's tough to post failures so publicly but we want to show our real life the best we can. -J

That's what I've been told. I gotta be honest though, for 250,000 miles I've only had 2 major repairs, 1 of which was the EGR which pretty much any diesel post 2011 is gonna have eventually. Not loyal to a company, but not a hater either. -J

The beauty of youtube is there is no "Late!" 🙂
Thanks so much for this. Kalyn got a little flack from people in this episode and some following because they didn't understand our collective sense of humor. (Not a lot of flack mind you, we've genuinely been blessed with the awesomest people in the comment sections)
While it wasn't a lot it was to the point where I was questioning if I was editing in a way that made our relationship look bad.
Thanks so much! And 1000% on the partner comment. Kalyn is the best a guy could ask for! -J

I’m still learning and probably will be for the rest of my life…

The term is called a customer! It very important you know your role!
haha! nice. -J

@@robertburns5145 That's a good question. For the beet harvest there are a few weigh station operators, but those positions are VERY hard to get. I'm not even sure if that position would be good with a back injury though because the windows are at standing level so you're still on your feet for most of the day.

Today is the first time i was showed your channel. I have a feeling your recent video about work camping is going to blow your channel up fast. You do a great job with the energy and editing, adding music when it helps keep the story flowing.
I am glad you finally got the truck fixed and was able to go out to a restaurant. 🙂
It was SO nice to get out of the RV! - K
I’m hooked on your channel. Funny how that happens! TH-cam sends a video my way and boom. Invested.
Sometimes that youtube Algorithm knows what it's doing...other times it thinks I want to watch videos about how septic systems work. -J
i really feel for you.... my big fear is fuel contamination.. that causes problems with the fuel system... we used to run lots of ford diesels at work.. now strictly gas, a bad high pressure pump is just way too expensive to tolerate.. watching you gave me the hebejebies.
I've become a fan of using a specific fuel additive. Truck has been running so much better after about the 3rd tank of using it! -J
A lot of years ago I had a hard time getting a hose off so I cut it -- it was a high pressure power steering hose expensive lessons
Not glad you also had to learn the hard way...but glad I'm not alone. lol. -J
That was something. As they say you have earned your stripes, both of you are to be congratulated sticking it through that challenge. Stay away from the Red River, it has a strong current. Good thing I lost the bet then! 😬 -J
just found your site today. on the truck repair topic- people that don't try things, never make mistakes. or learn new things. i once replaced the engine starter on one of our cars. it wouldn't work afterward. hmmm. was able to get it to a local mechanic, there was a loose wire inside the starter housing that wasn't making contact. who knew? he probably had had this happen in his many years of experience i don't remember the details. i worked on this in my house garage, we had another car etc. so the level of inconvenience was very minor. just my ego was damaged! Joseph DID NOT lose.
Appreciate that. Generally making mistakes is part of life I'm used to. This one was a tough pill to swallow just because it affected our lives for what felt like soooo long. -J

I know two things about the beet harvest from listening and watching folks talk about it. First, I'm too old to do that twelve hours of work on my feet and with a bad back and in cold weather. Second, I'd rather get beat up than do beets. 😮
I also know two things about working on trucks. I don't have the desire or will, that's why I prefer someone else does it who can. Second, I'd lose my patience with the attempt fast and probably break something else, thus the best reason to let a professional do it. 😅

Build a platform in your storage area so you can store stuff on two levels and everything will be more accessible. @@OpenRoading not sure if you know but your recent video didn’t come trough on my end !
@@davidgarcia6315 Which video was that? The one with the helicopter? There was a bit of drama around that one. I uploaded it at our normal time but took it down 4 hours later due to audio issues. I fixed them and the it re-uploaded the following morning. -J
@@davidgarcia6315 Totes is the best solution we have at the moment. -J
I am a new sub and I am really enjoying your channel. I have been there Joe, you try to make it better and end up getting to do a lot more work.
I think "trying to make it better and ending up getting to do a lot more work" may become my new life motto. 😂
Thanks for the encouragement and thanks so much for subscribing! -J
Great video... no, I didn't enjoy your misery, just the amazing perseverance. Well done.
🙂 Thanks so much.
Our EGR/DPF failed in 2021 in West Virginia and we ended up sitting for 2 weeks while it got repaired. I agree whole heartedly with you on contingency plans but I also know that we cannot plan for absolutely everything. There's a higher than zero percent chance that something will go wrong that we aren't prepared for - at which point we'll do what full time RV travel requires, be flexible and embrace the journey. -J
Hey joe looks good
From one Joe to another - thanks! -J
i worked in construction the mud and cold isn't a issue
I was waiting for the follow up since your last one! The cliffhanger was really strong & I am happy to see that things worked out without spending tons of $$. All it costed you was hours and hours of frustration, which happens to be free 😂
You guys are awesome to watch & I'm already looking forward to next week's video!
thats what you call a shade tree mechanic
Looked it up! Love it. Totally describes me. 😂 And I'd have to go as far to say I'm not a "Good" shade tree mechanic which tells you all you need to know. -J
All this trouble builds Character. A membership to AAA with RV is a BIG plus having. Doc’s Diesel for filters Archoil diesel treatment will be your best friend. They make other good things to. Cleans important components. I have the same truck. Just did transmission flush, U-joint replace, differentials clean outs, makes it reliable. Pulling is hard work for truck.
Indeed it does! Thanks for the tips! -J
I’m learning from you’ll how to live in a RV 😊 Thank You’ll and I still love the Dog ❤
Oh my gosh I just watched this one! I know that things are better but gosh I’m sending some RV love and hugs on this one!!!! You know that we are always out here rooting for you guys! Be well, safe journeys, and goodness…this is such a perfect video for RVers to watch. ❤❤❤❤
Thanks so much for the encouragement. It's so much more challenging to be without a vehicle when you're on the road! But we make it through or we wouldn't be doing this, right? -J
I have a thor class C and the bathroom sink goes into the black tank to add extra water to avoid the poop pyramid.
That is a very smart design IMO!
Shade tree mechanic 😂😂 stay positive Alaska is worth it
Nice! I like it... I just might put "Mechanic" in quotes. 😂😂 -J
Thanks so much for the kind encouragement. It's tough to post failures so publicly but we want to show our real life the best we can. -J
If you ever up by Lankin North Dakota make sure you stay at Terry Novak's campground full hookups it's west of Grafton North Dakota Terry's great people
Thanks for the recommendation! A lot of great people in americas midwest! -J
Just came upon your channel! We enjoyed this video (but hate y’all have had the truck trouble). So glad you got it fixed!
Thanks for stopping by! We hope to provide more upbeat entertainment in the future. 😂 but ya know…never know what life is gonna throw at you.
It looks great!
Hey again. Was looking at your tool box. I switched from those none organized containers to ammo boxes and mark them with contents. Just a idea. I do this in my semi. I did the beet harvest as a truck driver. Easy money ! Just switched from a class A to a 5th wheel and hopefully in 2024 i can go back to traveling and workcamping.
And use my hobbies such as Horse's and Photography to do as a side gig.
Probably alot of those people you were with worked at Digikey. Northern Mn is gorgeous in the winter.
Well Good Luck and safe Travels.
Hi James,
I'm blown away by the super thanks. I still don't know how to react anytime someone hits that button, especially for more than a couple of bucks. Wow, just...wow. Any and all supers we just pump straight into our Alaska fund 2024 fund so THANK YOU again!
I like the ammo box idea. I have 3 cheap small tool boxes that I use right now, but I need something better for my sockets and wrenches. It's always tough finding space saving but organized.
Do you have an IG account for your Photography that we could follow? -J
Well, you own a Ford diesel… that’ll keep you busy with repairs/ costs .
That's what I've been told. I gotta be honest though, for 250,000 miles I've only had 2 major repairs, 1 of which was the EGR which pretty much any diesel post 2011 is gonna have eventually.
Not loyal to a company, but not a hater either. -J
