All amazing tips! I could drive 73mph with my popup. It was the perfect speed. With my travel trailer being 7k lbs and a 1 ton SRW truck. I still only do 65mph. It shocks me here on Utah roads hope fast people go. I recently saw a TH-cam person here that was towing 80mph and he said “no one else should do this because I have experience.” I commented and told him how unsafe that was.
Loved the video! I completely agree about the 350 miles and no night driving for road trips, but for single destination trips, we often leave after work, drive late and go to a pullthrough known campground, then finish the trip the next morning. 10000% percent agree about winter camping. My truck is even a RWD, so this pavement princess doesn't leave the garage in the winter!!
Great video for newbies and well seasoned campers. It doesn’t take much to get distracted when setting up or tearing down and mistakes cost time and money. Thanks for taking the time to share and be transparent. Happy New Year!!
"pull a little gray to keep the black away", absolutely the best advice for new campers! Seen it happen way too many times!! Great video, very informative. Can't wait till Sunday for another good one! Happy New Year Marc, Trish and family! Can't wait to see the adventures and the surprises this year!! Cheers!!
I see you are planning on going through Indiana - I recommend Turkey Run and Shades State parks (they are close to each other) beautiful canyons- not the landscape you expect in Indiana. Though many of those trails have ladders- so maybe not the best with the dog.
When we bought our first rig, I bought a throw pillow that reads, "I'm sorry for the things I said while we were parking the camper" just as a preemptive grace for frustrations while getting parked... it gives us something to laugh about.
Love you guys. I have been watching since yall had the flat tire in the f150. Keep up the work. I love the camper and solar info. Happy New Year, Trish and Mark.
This was awesome/helpful, especially with the backing up. I sometimes will say "your other driver side" when he just can't get the passenger side 🙃 Happy healthy 2024 ~ Vinnie & Wanda (Charleston SC)
Excellent list! We got distracted by someone and forgot to check our tail lights on the trailer when leaving. After driving through a very busy city, we realized we didn't connect the electrical - ugh. Our Imagine is just under 11" high - had a complete panic attack in MD when we got on a highway and the sign said "nothing over 10"". Luckily we were able to turn off that highway after a few miles of sheer terror. My favorite part of all of your videos has always been Marc dragging the sewer hose down the street.
On our last trip out to New Mexico (Cosmic Camp Ground) I was in the process of disconnecting our TH and forgot to chuck the wheels.. well, I was on a small hill and once the hitch release from the truck, the trailer fell a foot down bending the electric jack and making the trailer go backwards a good 6; feet with my wife and kids INSIDE!!! I had a mini hard attack but luckily it stop from going much further down. Now I take my take and a good breather before setting up at any camp.
I've been watching you from day one, and I love how you always showed the true. Not hide your mistakes. Great way for us to learn. Thanks for all you do!
You stated that you were on your way to Sacramento in this episode. I just want to point out that if you can't get into Sequoia NP on your way there, or Redwoods NP, further north, (we couldn't get into either NP in April 2023 due to the amount of snow they received), there is an alternative - a California State Park called Calaveras Big Trees State Park. Not crowded at all in comparison to the National Parks. So glad we were able to visit this little known CA SP in the middle of Gold Country. Lots of interesting history. Sutters Creek is a cute town with quaint dining options. We stayed at a campground in Pine Grove to be centralized to all the area had to offer as well as to not have to drag our trailer over any mountain passes. We were originally going to stay one week and extended it to two weeks with all the things we could do and see.
So, your 24 things to remember are spot-on!! I, as well, seem to like making the same mistake several times, especially backing up into a campsite - what fun 😂! Great video.
Happy New Year KYD Family! That was an AWESOME video with great info(reminders) for both new & seasoned RVers alike. There's a nugget in there for everyone. Thanks for sharing & see you next year. PS Hugs for Charlie!
Great Tricia on the narrative for * Tip-ups & Tip-downs *💯 Fun scenes within the scenery, laughter, fixes, glitches & the "whole ball of wax" (old term)😉. Charlie will always be the comrade charmer 🦮🤗 ....love unlimited
All good! Long time followers. We have switched to a class A and our comfort zone is 65-70. We shake our heads at the people in tow behinds and 5th wheels that pass us like we are standing still. This trip to Orlando we witnessed a bad motor home collision outside of Ocala. Can’t know for sure but looked like they had no room to stop when traffic slowed in the left lane and rear ended the car in front.
😂😂 What a fun video! We laughed to the point of crying with Marc's poopsie and Caleb's dreaded poo droplet. Great reminders for everyone! Thank you for this video 😃
Right on target issues we all experience camping 40 years tent to travel trailer to aframe this works for all camper types and yes with a dog thanks a million miss the kidos
Good tips. Looking forward to Sequoia National Park, hope you enjoyed it. The parkis here in our county and always nice to see people enjoy their visits.
You can use a sharpie to write your vehicle height directly on your windshield and the sharpie will wipe off with a swipe of paper towel. I sometimes write a quick note there so I don't forget - out of my line of sight.
For your 2024 Grand Tour, I see Duluth and likely Marquette in your path. In Duluth, a great place to stay is at the Lake Head Boat Basin. Right now, in the bleak mid winter, all of the boats are "on the hard." When Spring comes and all of the boats get launched, this leaves room for Campers. The city uses the boat storage area at Lake Head Boat Basin as camp sites for RV people. We found it on RV Trip Advisor. I wouldn't want to tent there. Basically a parking lot, but has hookups for power, water, and dump tank. Right near the lift bridge, ship canal, and walkable to most of downtown. Good access to the bike trail along Lake Superior too. Head East out Route 61 (Voyageur Highway) to Split Rock Lighthouse. A lighthouse set in The Most Epic Lighthouse Setting I have personally every seen. Play some Route 61 revisited-Bob Dylan (if that is your sort of thing) while heading out Route 61 to the lighthouse. In Marquette, The Iron Heritage Bike Trail is some great riding. The best is along the shore of Lake Superior from The Michigan Welcome Center on the east end of town, back into town, past Da Yooper Dome, and around Presque Isle. Many resturants and breweries at hand along the trail. The Iron Heritage Trail also climbs out of town intermitably to the west and makes a great turn/around ride, coasting all the way back to town. Heading out of Marquette, take M-28, a much better drive than US-2. Check out the locks at Da Soo or pick up I-75 via M-123 to The Mighty Mac. Have a Yooperific Trip !!
My favorite mistake that you caught on film is when Marc dragging the Stinky Slinky along the side of the road. It always brings a smile to my face. Happy New Year 2024!,🎉❤. Safe travels & many more wonderful memories!?
Just found you 2 weeks ago and I’m hooked. We purchased a 17 foot RV trailer to haul out boys to MTB races across eastern USA. Looking forward to many family trips and memories
This is one of your best informative videos! We have made quite a few of these mistakes- some, more costly than others (figuratively and literally). After 2 1/2 years as full-time RVERS, we have definitely found what works best for us, and we try to follow those guidelines as much as possible. For us, the 3:30 rule works best: no more than 3 and a half hours of travel in a day and be parked for the night by 3:30 pm. Some of our worst mishaps happened when trying to set up after dark, or when we're overtired. My husband is 67 and I am 69. We have no need to rush anywhere. And we have found the greatest, quirkiest spots as a result! Safe travels and God bless. One last thing ☆ hold onto your sense of humor; it's a game changer when you can laugh about things.
I chuckled at the "enter exact location" tip...also traveling at night...😎 We were traveling through Alabama & had decided we were just going to do a quick overnight at a Bass Pro Shops in Prattville, Al. I had entered Montgomery as a point of reference & was going to change it to the address for the Bass Pro Shops, but ,I forgot to do that. I followed Google maps right into downtown Montgomery, with our 37' 5th wheel....😳 I knew I screwed up as I exited & the sign said downtown, but it was too late at that point. Thankfully it was on a Monday night & around 10pm so there wasn't hardly any traffic. It was a tense few moments, but we were able to get back on track fairly easily. We did arrive at our destination & once we did, my wife & I had a good laugh over what happened. We learned the hard way that evening & since then we double check that the address is correctly entered before we hit the road. 😎
Tail swing is a good one. Got sideswiped by a brand new toyhauler in a Flying J because the guy didn't consider tail swing when pulling out from beside us.
Kentucky has great state parks and several Corp of Engineer parks. Tennessee has several COE parks. Forget Atlanta come through Tallahassee area and up through Alabama. Lots of COE in Alabama.
Outstanding video. Thank you for those basic reminders. I always need them. I too had the same poopsy experience. I thought I was the only one. We look forward to your 2024 excursion.
I just noticed that your route may include the KC and central Missouri. I can not wait. We are just outside KC and hope this may even include a Meet and Greet. Keep it up. We love you and your family.
I love: Just A Little Grey. I would love to say only once, but not once, not twice, but now more than I care to admit, I have forgotten to pull one of the inserts from a hose only to find out when “for some unknown reason” the black is not reaching the end. This is going to the top of my list. LOL. Happy New Year.
Tires, tires, tires. Just had 2 Goodyear LT Trailrunner tires fail at 20k miles. Replaced all 4 with same brand and 2 failed at 200 miles. Always pretrip your tires.
Thanks for this. Minor mishaps RV’ing are inevitable and over time we’ve learned to avoid many but never never let the ones that catch us up ruin otherwise great times. Love the practical advice but also the positive attitude! Happy New Year and safe travels in 2024 😊
We've been travel trailering for a little over a year. When mishaps happen, ( and they WILL happen), my dear wife will talk about it, and ask each other if it has been a learning experience.
I have to admit I enjoy watching the "real life" issues faced more than the perfection in everything you display now based on your years of experience. I look forward to every Sunday.
I've crossed the border to and from Haines several times during my 20 years in Alaska. I've always found it amusing that the border is closed overnight. It's like hanging a sign that says "Welcome to the United States! We're Closed Right Now!"
I really enjoyed this, I pretty much follow all of the advice from this video. My Airstream is 20' so some wasn't an issue for me. Looking forward to Sequoia NP, I love that place. Probably the first NP I ever went to, I am talking years ago.
Disconnecting before checking my stairs has got me several times 🤦🏼♀️ Sometimes there is a concrete patio and my stairs can’t go down far enough. Needless to say, we’ve had to reconnect and move over a smidge 😩 Good times 😂
Thanks for that video. We’ve learned a couple things like the Chocking issue with our pop up trailer, but this coming spring is going to be our first with a travel trailer so I’m gonna be remembering a few of these things!
Hey, 'cause somebody has to say it. Your graphic on your favorite national parks has Glacier in Washington instead of Montana. There now no one else has to say anything about it.😁
Great tips for new and seasoned RVers. Love the channel. Here’s another tip. With limited sun in the fall and spring months, I’ve started adding backup LED lights to all my trailers, including cargo and utility. All 7 pin connectors have a centre wire that connect to your trucks reverse lights. Installing a couple LED lights to the rear bumper of the trailer is an easy and inexpensive fix but it really helps backing up in the dark. Added tip, add a switch in the circuit with constant power and you can also manually turn on those lights if you need extra light in the rear when parked.
Happy New Year, y'all! We've done most of these. The walk around but not looking up cost us a TV antenna. The poopsey was hilarious but totally disgusting. We had a jerk walk past our trailer and pull the black-water tank handle out. This was while we were shopping in a Walmart. Fortunately, I spotted it when we returned, closed the valve and went on our way. We stopped at the RV Park dump station before parking and took care of it to avoid a nasty mess at the camp site. Now I check everything whenever we park to shop just in case there's another jerk. Winter camping: been there, done that, thanks but no thanks. It was work related but still - no way, Jose! Safe travels in 2024! Thanks for sharing your ideas and experiences. They are much appreciated!
Haha...are you kidding? "I need to take my skin off." My wife had a poopsie yesterday. The aquahot exhaust melted the sewer hose. She didn't notice before opening the black. I won't attach the pic!
Since learning about the diesel discount card on kyd, I have saved over $600. That $600 went a long way to replace the awning I had out, when I shouldn't have.
All amazing tips! I could drive 73mph with my popup. It was the perfect speed. With my travel trailer being 7k lbs and a 1 ton SRW truck. I still only do 65mph. Great video. Of the 24 "mistakes" listed, I have personally enjoyed 36 of them.
Bahahaha!😂
As soon as I sell my house I’m going be full time RVer with my 2 trusted canine friends..so excited and you site is very informative.thank you
Loved the video! I completely agree about the 350 miles and no night driving for road trips, but for single destination trips, we often leave after work, drive late and go to a pullthrough known campground, then finish the trip the next morning. 10000% percent agree about winter camping. Brings back some good memories!!
Probably my favorite Mark quote ; “I am going to have to change my skin” !
Safe travels in 2024 👍🏻
Happy New Year to the Leach Family. All of you. I don't know you but some how I think I love you. Thanks for this year. See you in the next. 2024!
I see you are planning on going through Indiana - I recommend Turkey Run and Shades State parks (they are close to each other) beautiful canyons- not the landscape you expect in Indiana. Though many of those trails have ladders- so maybe not the best with the dog.
Walk around is key for me. I'm notorious for driving off and leaving my brass splitter and water pressure gauge still attached to the spigot.
Great video to send us off into the new year.
When we bought our first rig, I bought a throw pillow that reads, "I'm sorry for the things I said while we were parking the camper" just as a preemptive grace for frustrations while getting parked... it gives us something to laugh about.
Thank you for another great year.
Happy new year to you two, the kids, Charlie and all the followers.
Ahhh a poopsie! That was a funny episode! You always put out amazing content! Happy New Year!
When I’m tinkering around I sometimes ask myself “what would Mark Do” 🤔🤔🤔🤔 Happy New Year to You both and the Family 👍👍👍
Love you guys. I have been watching since yall had the flat tire in the f150. Keep up the work. I love the camper and solar info. Happy New Year, Trish and Mark.

Happy New Year Guys ... Looking forward to spending the New Year with you guys !!!! God Bless

Pretzel fish? Yum! Especially good with mustard.

Chelan!!! It’s so beautiful there. The beauty of the Northwest is unbelievable
So, your 24 things to remember are spot-on!! I, as well, seem to like making the same mistake several times, especially backing up into a campsite - what fun 😂! Great video.
Oh, these are some great things to avoid! -Michelle
What RV'r has made at least a half dozen of these mistakes? More than once?? Great advice. You guys are THE BEST!
Love this video. We've been RVing for 28 years in 5 different RV's....and yes I've made most of these mistakes!
Happy New Year KYD Family! That was an AWESOME video with great info(reminders) for both new & seasoned RVers alike. There's a nugget in there for everyone. Thanks for sharing & see you next year. PS Hugs for Charlie!

My favorite is number 8 65 is great speed I’ve seen to many people blame the tires when they tow going 75mph

I see your coming through Oregon, I've grew up here for the last 65 years and can give you some great ideas you may miss along the way on i-5
Ted
Some of this is fuel for nightmares. :-). We have been watching since day one and love how transparent you've been. Of course we love the videos.
¡Feliz Año Nuevo! Happy New Year!

Wow - back to the first mishap
To make your trailer tires last longer; get each wheel balanced.
Happy New Year 🎊🎆 Thank you for sharing this important information 😊
Thanks for the recap. I am guilty of a few of these. I recognized the clock image from Richmond Va. off of I95! Happy new year and safe travels.
See ya next year!
I have made the no chocking error for several years, last week unhooking without the chocks, bent the tongue of our trailer.
Dear Marc & Trish, as always - time very well spent watching your videos! Thank you!
Check your sewer hoses for holes….. I learned the hard way.
I have to admit I enjoy watching the "real life" issues faced more than the perfection in everything you display now based on your years of experience. I look forward to every Sunday.
Trish & Marc, I wish you guys the best that 2024 can offer. Keep On Trucking.
P.S.
More Topper updates in 2024.....
Asking for a friend.........
Yes, for sure. A lot of truck videos are coming.
Happy New Year. If your travels bring you through Sisters, OR you’re welcome to moochdock with a view and plenty of room for Charlie to play.
Happy New year !!!
🏆 Happy New Year!!
Hope you have a Happy New Year!!
Fantastic video as we remembered each of those "oops". Be safe and well! Happy 2024!
Love #22 Just a Little Grey! I’ve had an issue twice because I didn’t follow #22! New Year’s resolution I can keep: “Just a Little Grey”! 🤣
Great reminders. I suspect many of us could help you list the next 24 Rv mistakes.....As always, safe travels... looking forward to next week.
Disconnecting before checking my stairs has got me several times 🤦🏼♀️ Sometimes there is a concrete patio and my stairs can’t go down far enough. Needless to say, we’ve had to reconnect and move over a smidge 😩 Good times 😂
Muchas gracias , feliz ano nuevo 2024 ,
Great video. Brought back memories & some laughs. Sorry, I know that was at your expense.
Happy New Year! Thank you for all the great content! We love watching your channel!
There now no one else has to say anything about it.😁
I always look forward to you next video. Thanks so much for the many of them I have enjoyed watching. Happy New Year to all of you guys.
I made a bingo card with your 24 steps and I bingo-ed 3 times from my own RV experiences!😀
Great list.
I was sure the Caleb droplet of "water" clip would make the cut.
"I hope!"
Happy New Year, Gump.
Happy New Year! I look forward to 2024 kyd
Great video! Good tips to keep in mind. I’m guilty as anyone about not always checking tire pressures.
Since learning about the diesel discount card on kyd, I have saved over $600. That $600 went a long way to replace the awning I had out, when I shouldn't have.
Pull a little grey saved me just a few days ago.
Great video and tips. A lot of us have done these mistakes.
Great way to start the new year.
Loved it! Very informative and entertaining!!
