- Sugar Beet Harvest jobs through The Unbeetable Experience (@ExpressProsGFND ) come with an incredible perk: 4 hours of “Stay Pay”! So what does that mean? You get paid to do nothing! But all the money we earned went straight back into the truck. So much for trying to make money on the road in an RV. 🤦🏼♂️ 🤦🏼♀️

Hey there! We're Joe + Kalyn!
As online entrepreneurs, we thought, "why not work from home... on the road"? So in 2019, we bought and renovated a 2005 Jayco Designer Fifth Wheel, which took us to every state in the lower 48. But the economy hit our business especially hard after the 'vid, spurring us to pivot in new directions and try different strategies, including various work camping jobs!
Follow our journey as we build back our bank accounts in order to fund the biggest RV trip of our lifetime-Alaska.

If you are going to work on your own truck, I would highly suggest that you buy a Chilton's repair manual. There are also digital versions of technical manuals for your specific truck too. Some shops offer free diagnostics and will give you a printout for the specific problem from the professional technical manuals that they use as today's vehicles are highly complex and the days of the shadetree mechanic are long gone.
Yeah. I think I learned if it's beyond a fuel filter or oil filter to take it to the pros. Until I decide to try something else...-J
You guys should get your TWIC cards and do Refinery turnarounds…….12 hour days , 7 days a week for 40-60 days at a time. You can make 30-40 an hour plus OT an double time. Work a a fire attendant or hole watch.
Had never heard of these until you mentioned. I think that wouldn't work for our specific situation because we need something where we can split our time between our own work (video editing, writing etc) and the job. We actually found a pretty sweet gig that lets us do exactly that! More to come. -J
Where can I get information about refinery turnarounds. Thank you.
Refinery turnarounds??? Please tell us more about this!
+1 for Ryan Hall! Hiking through all that leaf litter makes me think of all the ticks hanging out in it.
LOVE Ryan Hall! 😁 We've found him particularly helpful for travel since he's always giving the broad overview of the country.
We had a big issue with ticks in Indiana last spring - so far none (that we've seen) this year. 🤞🏻 -J
Ryan Hall Y’all is the best weather source out their
At most of the big auto parts stores sell repair kits for plastic hi pressure lines. The problem I have is finding someone at the auto parts that know what they have. Look in the help catalog. I'm sure you have already fixed it. But if there is a next time......
Yeah....Where we were man....there was nothin. 😂 -J
I’m learning so much from you guys!
So glad you find our videos informative along with entertaining! That's our goal. -J
Ive been interested in trying the great beet harvest - thank you for the detailed info!
You’re welcome! -J
“ My mama always said life was like a box of chocolate..." 4:02
That’s not a high pressure line. My dad broke his and the temporary permanent fix was rubber fuel hose..it’s been working for about 1 year now and 70k miles with no issue and it was a 10$fix
2012 F250 super duty diesel?
Joseph, don’t feel bad about the truck- that stuff even happens at the dealership.
Now, get you some hearing protection for work! You need it!😜
I'm not sure how I feel about dealerships making that bad of a mistake... 😳😂
One of my co-workers got on my case about ear protection so after day 1 I wore it all of the time....most of the time....well I wore it. 😀
Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving a comment! -J
It's better to actually wear it. Hearing aids stink.
For the Ford truck it might be egr valve, you can clean it with brake cleaner or get a new egr valve. Diesel trucks are known with that problem, all the sutt builds up in there.
It could be. We had the whole EGR replaced in 2021 so I hope it's not that already...but you never know! Thanks for that idea. I'll see if I can get that looked at. -J
Very educational, I’ve heard about beet harvests, this fills in a lot…
Thank you for sharing.
Glad you found the info helpful! -J
I am looking to transport my kawasaki Versys 300 on the front of my truck. I would love a short video on your hitch/carrier set up.
We're putting this on the schedule but it won't be out for a while. Shoot me an email to rvopenroading@gmail.com and I'll make a quick one just for you. 😁 -J
I believe the video Joseph is working on is the one where he left the home in a Walmart parking lot. He had to go get the new tires put on the wheels. Really enjoy y'alls travels and adventures. Happy Thanksgiving.
You nailed it!!! I need to offer a prize next time!! -J
Well.....I don't want a polar plunge! I would have a heart attack.@@OpenRoading
$90 lesson on learning about your fuel system.. and what not to do. It’s all good brother!
Cost me close to $300 by the time i was done. 😂 -J
For the IYKYK moment.... IK.
I don’t ask my husband to stay clean shaven every single day because *I* don’t want to be held to that standard. :)
😂 - To be fair I (Joseph) shave about every 3 days. She starts looking at me differently on days 4 and 5. -J
i think his jelly amount is about right. a pretty even mix of PB and J.
buuuut for a bet, no jelly on 4 random sandwiches of your choice would be funny.
imagine if that sammich at 06:04 was just peanut butter hahaha
and you would have 3 more times that you could surprise him with a sandwich like that
OK.... That....is just wrong. Like...I would never trust a sandwich again!!! And Kalyn could make this last years! 😂 -J
@@OpenRoading hahaha exactly! it's the prank that keeps on giving 🤣🤣🤣
good thing she wasn't the one to read my comment lol
I bet the truck is overdue for new spark plugs. You should change those and the wires for a quick tune up!
I know you probably hated the mistake cutting the gas line,, but it was definitely fun to watch. Lol, my wife has had to calm me down after scenarios like this too & I related with that part so much😂
Thanks so much for commiserating with me in my ineptness. With this being the threshold of your entertainment enjoyment.....You will really enjoy next weeks video. 😂
As to the spark plugs ours is a diesel so we have glow plugs instead - I don't know if that changes the math on maintenance for them or not. I have had some people suggest I may want to look into getting the injectors looked at. 😳 -J
The math for glow plugs is different, since they are only in use for a short time to start the engine. Unlike spark plugs, which are in use every minute an engine is running.
Since you have to pull the injectors and take them to a shop, which may work on them in a day or two, sometimes it is much easier to order a new set of injectors at a discount. Install them, then you are not tied up waiting for the shop. You put the old ones away to either use as spares, or so you can swap out agsin, just as easily next time.
@@lyfandeth I'm thinking after this experience if I do anything with injectors I'm either taking it to a shop, or teaming up with someone who knows what they are doing. I want to continue to learn this stuff, but I also need to know my limits when I'm working on my own. 😂-J
It's amazing how some people know way too much and others don't know a damn thing! It's usually said the quiet ones are the smart ones! Keep up the talk , I hope zero people take your advice since in this case it's 100% completely wrong and unwarranted!
@@stephenscering1776 uh oh... what advice was I giving out?
I❤Ryan Hall Y’all
Such awesome, well presented info! I get nervous when he takes a long break. 😂 -J
Love Ryan Hall.
At this moment we wish he covered Canada! 😂 We need to find the Canadian Ryan Hall. 😂
the rest are in sugar cane out around southern florida
that means il do north dakota
You don't have rain gear for your motorcycle? There is some nice stuff out there that's even yellow so that you're safer on the road.
And I don't know about america, but when I was in Asia I had a motorcycle cover to keep it dry, and not have the finish damaged by the uv, because it was either rainy or really sunny.
Do you have saddlebags? Makes things a bit easier.
I've got some rain gear - just no pants. For the moment I try to avoid riding if there is going to be rain.
I do have a motorcycle cover - I've damaged the plastic quite a bit on my own with a couple laydowns 😂 No sun required.
No saddlebags yet. One of the many things I plan on getting eventually when the budget allows. -J
As someone who hates all things bananas, yuck! But I agree that Kalyn's polar plunge seems far worse! 😁
I donno! Eating banana bread brings me to the edge of 🤮....cold water doesn't do that! But maybe I'm just trying to justify my choice in stakes. 🤣 -J
Eating something your body hates to the point of gagging/throwing up is no fun at all. I think both are good challenges
@@AddictOfLearning Right? Kalyn thought she chose poorly...I think she was dead on! -J
Straight dry shave. Lol
You two sure seem to eat a lot of PB&J. Lol
Stinks about the bad luck with the truck.
😂😂😂 we do! It’s our go to “we’re going somewhere, let’s pack something” food. -J
That’s a great idea for shaving
Kalyn was NOT on board. 😂 -J
@@OpenRoading that’s ok she’ll get over it lol
@@chadkoller7809 You have no idea how much Kalyn haaaaaaaaaaaates facial hair on me. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 -J
We are headed full time March 2025 and we are going to look into the harvest for fast money
@@OpenRoading 🤣🤣
why didnt you double the pay? 2 people? 2 checks.......
I didn’t actually work the beet harvest, just Joseph! -K
What happened to trinity
You went back in time. 😀 This video was before Trinity. If you go to our change page and click on “videos” and “latest” you’ll see them in order from newest to oldest. -J
if you have to shave your face she has to shave her legs! lol
So um....weird comment of the day....but for the curious mind I don't think she has ever gone 14 days without shaving her legs so we're all good. -J
Click bait is annoying af
Indeed it is. Care to tell me what's click bait about this video? In it we highlighted the stay pay associated with the North Dakota beet harvest where you get paid...to do nothing. Which seems like easy money to me. -J
