@@CL-qo7cm Philippines has a mixture of sniper rifles. Mission differences drive weapons selection. DM rifles are good to 500 m. Semi-Auto allows better followup shots. Its good to see they are using M118LR.

@@sniperrangercee Here's an excerpt from a book I'm working on.
"In 1983 I was an instructor at the USMC scout-sniper instructor school in Quantico, Virginia. We were running a course and I went out to sign for our ammunition for pre-qualification day (practice qualification). I looked at the crate and not only was it a different lot of ammunition (changing lots mid-course was a no-no) but the crate was also stamped “Special Ball” instead of “M118 MATCH”. Very politely I asked the ammo tech, “What the frick?!” “Very politely…” Right… Anyway he assured me it was the same stuff and “It should be okay”. “It should be okay” doesn’t fly when things go “bang”… The plot thickened.
So we go to the range and pop open the cans and MORE craziness..it was in brown boxes, the white box with the little eagle and red “MATCH” markings were gone! Students are looking at the instructors like.. “We hate you”. We tell them to “suck it up”, issue the ammunition and start across the known distance qualification course which was 300-1000 yards. All appeared “ok” until we hit the 600 yard-line when we noticed a definite drop in elevation had developed. At the 700 yard-line the first rounds bounced off of the top of the target berm and by the time we got off the 1000 yard-line the students were dialing on all of their elevation fine tune (3.5 minutes on the Unertl SS scope) to hit. Some were using the mildot reticle to hold over and the group sizes were terrible.
Being the lead marksmanship/ballistics dude, I recorded all the data from the students and after the school graduated I took the data and samples of the old M118 MATCH and the new M118 Special Ball to the ballistics lab at the Secret Service Training Center in Beltsville, Maryland. There we tore the ammunition apart, compared powder loads and projectiles and really couldn’t find much difference between the two. It was the same crappy brass, the same crappy powder, the projectiles had the same shape… What the heck? Time went on and we dealt with the new ammunition and combat effectiveness definitely suffered.
Enter the war story time warp…
Years later I was back at Quantico for a Range Officers conference and I had a chance to talk to the Commanding Officer of Weapons Training Battalion and my boss Colonel Jack Cuddy (the same Jack Cuddy who started the Scout-Sniper Instructor School with Gunny Hathcock in the ‘70’s) I asked him if they had ever figured out what had happened to the Special Ball. He replied that they figured out that it was the copper disks they swaged into the projectile jacket had a non-uniform thickness which caused the spinning projectile to yaw badly which resulted in it losing its effective ballistic coefficient as it went down range. As it staggered down range like an Eli Manning duck, it dropped more and more until it was just about a bowling ball by the time it struggled into the target at 1000 yards.
      Another war story time warp!
Around 1997 I was working at the National Guard Sniper School and we were training at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. We had completed our known distance qualification at Camp Robinson, still using Special Ball ammunition, and were conducting our unknown distance shooting at Fort Chaffee. When we got to Chaffee we knew we were going to be drawing from another ammunition bunker so we expected to change lots and had prepped the students for it. Lo and behold when we drew out the first cases of ammunition guess what? It was the old 170 something M118 MATCH!! It was in white boxes with the eagle, red MATCH label but had a brown tape sticker over it that said M118 Special Ball. There was great rejoicing and festivities as the students got to shoot the ammunition the M24 SWS was designed for in the first place. We had stumbled onto an old lot of the M118 MATCH, like Indiana Jones or Laura Croft. But sadly we exhausted that gold mine and eventually went back to SB in later courses. But we had our memories…
Then finally the DOD got its act together and gave us M118 Long Range (LR). In 1996 or so a couple of the ballistics engineers from Lake City visited us at the National Guard Marksmanship Training Center doing “research” for the development of M118LR. They explained to us that the whole M118 improvement mission was actually a near miss and almost didn’t get it. They were avoiding having to develop a totally new round by going on the pretense that the original M118 never really met the specs it was supposed to meet. Therefor they were basically simply improving an existing round. If the original had met specs, they would have had to totally redesign it as a “green” round. No lead in the projectile for example.
LR is great ammunition. Snipers loved it. We hath smote the dragon and there was again great rejoicing..yaaayy…"

I left sniper school 2 years ago because the Barret affected me a lot. I accidentally curved my back a bit because a stone hit my nuts and I underestimated the power. It broke my shoulder, I was in pain for a month on my back and they honestly ask me to give up because I used all the days to recover. It was for my own good and I know that. I wish I could turn back time and remove that stone. A tiny mistake can change your future even if it's a rock.

Great comment my friend. I also am an enthusiast of sniper skills and tactics. I am a Canadian, not military, but have been playing tactical shooter games and Mil sims for about 20 years or more. Many of my family are Military or Police. I have so much respect for not only the skills but the sacrifice of the soldiers who have given their lives or their service to the brotherhood of soldiers. The man next to you is your brother/sister. I have always craved to learn as much as I can about the skills of snipers. Reconnaissance is so important for the success of the unit. I now live in the Philippines and like you don't know much of the language. Ako Visaya gamay hehe. I have been watching alot of video's about the Philippine army and am very impressed. I always remember the quote in history of General Mac Arthur “Give me 10,000 Filipino soldiers and I will conquer the world.” I am very lucky to have a Cousin in my family who is PNP. I hope some day he can teach me everything he has learned. Long live the Philippine Army and the PNP. Shout out to the Guardians of Banay Banay Davao! Stay stafe and stay frosty my friends!

Sa online games ko lang po nakikita yung mga ganyan so ngayon may filipino na nag eexplain at nag bibigay info about sa sniper rifle at marksman rifle.. Sana maka apply na ko next para ma fulfill ko yung dream ko in the future na maging "snipa" hehe..
