    Great freature Sir, I've always found it amazing how Mappy was never really bothered with in the West. with all the popularity Pac-Man had, you would have thought Namco would have tried their second character too.

    • @ImportGamingFTW
      @ImportGamingFTW  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Larry Bundy Jr Thank you very much! Yeah, it's a huge shame that Mappy was there, but wasn't, you know? Such a charming character and concept. A police mouse chasing after cat criminals, but can't really do much to them since to them, he's what's for dinner? Classic. I haven't tried out Hopping Mappy yet, but learned the other day that it's available for download on the Japanese Wii Virtual Console, so next paycheck, I'm buying some Wii points. ;)
      BTW, I checked out your channel and man, you make excellent videos! I see you commenting on a lot of my non-gaming subs, but never took the time to see what you were all about. You're a weblebrity! XD

      Aw, thanks dude, that's really kind of you to say so! I subbed to you the other day, so certainly looking forward to your future stuff! :D

      +Larry Bundy Jr Thanks very much for the sub, I did the same as well when I looked through a bunch of your videos, old and new! Loved your new Fact Hunt series, looks like they're getting the proper attention they deserve! Really looking forward to the next one...or anything for that matter.
      I'm working on a new episode now, but it's probably gonna take a few weeks to get finished. I imagine you're pretty busy, but if you find the time and need to whet your appetite for import games, I've gotta a big back catalog of stuff. The older stuff in particular is pretty cringey now, but if even only a few people discover a new hidden gem of a game, I'm OK with that. ;)

      +Larry Bundy Jr I've always think it's a good idea Namco make a new Mappy game. Mappy really needs to come back, this police mouse does not deserve to be shoved in sideline, especially since his original arcade game ( Mappy ) is a really amazing game, Mappy Land is great game as well. I haven't played the other sequels :( I'm also curious if they make a new Mappy game, what would his new 3d model be like ? especially what his new voice would be like :)

    The Mappy series is underrated. "Mappy-Land" was my favorite.
    Apparently, "Mappy Kids" finally got an official international release via the Evercade portable system.

    Yeah, the Mappy series is very under appreciated. In my opinion, all Mappy games are really great. It’s such a shame Mappy Kids is only Japan exclusive, I have the Famicom cartridge of Mappy Kids and I have a blast with it. Really addicting and really fun.

    Congratulations Jimmy! You've made a fantastic review to end this year with! Whenever I get myself a Famicom (more so the top-loader Famicom like what you have), this is one of the games I will have to get. It looks really good, and will have to likely check out the other Mappy games in the future. But that N163 soundchip on Mappy Kids, mmm, delicious.
    And thanks for that shout out, it was a lot more than what I expected, that really means a lot to me, and my heart grows fonder for you Jimmy-senpai! And of course, that science joke, had me cracking up, you weren't kidding about it! ;)
    So great review Jimmy, and let us get hyped for IGFTW 2015! :D

      ***** Yeah man, no problem. I really appreciate you providing the tracks on such short notice...and besides, I got to tease you a bit as well, like I did with Popka's shout out on the Magatama vid...so I got a little extra out of if showing good will. XPAnd Niko, you should know that all Famicoms are top loaders...but the "New AV" version is definitely the way to go. Even more so than the lack of an AV output on the original model, it's the controllers made for the babies of babies on the old Famicom that bugs me most. You've gotta put that damn console on your lap to play it!

      Took your NES, soldering iron, connect pin 3 and 9 with a little cable on the back at the expansion port.
      Next step: get a Famicom converter. On NesDev there is a gudie which pins you have to connect again on the converter to get the audio.
      More the 150$ spared.

    You deserve so many more subscribers. Your videos are much more enjoyable than a lot of other TH-cam channels especially those that simply play games and talk crap while trying to be funny. By the way, have you played the PS1 game Pepsiman? It's pretty crazy, too bad it wasn't released in English. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

    • @ImportGamingFTW
      @ImportGamingFTW  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ashfury Hey, thanks a lot for the Christmas/New Year's wishes and the kind words! Same to you! And I don't know if I "deserve" more subs, but I'd love to have a larger audience for sure...and I definitely agree about some other channels. I decided to take a look at the most popular gaming videos of the day on YT a couple of weeks ago for some reason or another, and every single one, except for a preview of an upcoming game, was Minecraft or some other Let's Play...it was...disheartening.

    • @ImportGamingFTW
      @ImportGamingFTW  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ashfury I forgot to mention Pepsiman! Yes, I've played it and I like that game, but unfortunately I no longer own it...wouldn't mind buying it again. I don't know if you watched the last video I did, but it's on a game called "Oh No!" and is a Japan-only PS1 running game, not too dissimilar from Pepsiman. :)

    I need to find a copy of The Room and finally watch it. Everyone keeps quoting it and I must know why it's so memorable. I saw Mazes and Monsters the other day. It sucked, so Im ready for anything now.

      Retro Island Gaming Hey Andrew, thanks a lot! You can do the booty bumping sumo in real life if you gather a group of Japanese folks, get a small table, and get them drunk enough. ;) Anyway, yeah, it was a chilly night, but I like the cold. And I find it an absolute travesty that you haven't seen The Room. We live close enough to each other, I could just lend the DVD to you if you ever find your way in town.

    • @RetroIslandGaming

      haha I just may try that next time I get invited to a Sayonara party for one of the submarines that end up here. Sake is some powerful stuff and those little wooden blocks pack a punch.
      My brother is in town visiting, which is putting my show on hold. After he leaves in early Jan, I just may take you up on that offer for the dvd. I've been quoting parts of it for years now, so there's no excuse anymore. Not watching this stupid movie is tearing me apart, Lisa! Unless you hide under another hole for a few months again :P

    The music sounds awesome, especially the track you opened with, is the rest of the games music as good? Love The Room clips. Also got to love this game puts the girl in the role of, "oh you don't have a nice house? Well piss off then." Mappy Kids: encouraging materialism since the early 90s.

    • @ImportGamingFTW
      @ImportGamingFTW  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Game vs Game If you're a fan of The Room clips in games, then you're good in my book. NY Times Best Seller material. Anyway, all of the background music minus the classic Mappy track is from the game (something I do for all my videos), and I pretty much used the entire soundtrack from the game in this video...there are only a few tracks, but the music is great. Not quite as catchy as the original Mappy, but comparable!

      Jimmy Hapa (Import Gaming FTW!) Oh no worries I well plan to do Japanese games. Working on 'Tower of Druaga' starting earlier today. Odd it's known in gaming culture but no reviews exist for it. Play the Pc engine version of that it's great!
      But I just meant I'll likely not name it Japan gaming what not or maybe I will try & give it a different name or vibe otherwise I would just name them Reviews. You have opened me up to researching more japanese games though so thanks a lot. Many gems.

    • @ImportGamingFTW
      @ImportGamingFTW  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ashtendo Great, glad to hear it--and speaking of Druaga, I almost DID pick up the PC version a couple of weeks ago, since I thought that someday, MAYBE SOMEDAY, I'd like to do a video on Quest of Ki, Tower of Druaga, and Return of Ishtar...but it's probably not gonna happen, ha ha. But I'll look for a copy of the PCE game and just enjoy it. ;)

    • @ashthedood9169
      @ashthedood9169 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jimmy Hapa (Import Gaming FTW!) Yeah it's such a big improvement over the originals, though if you do not know japanese I reccomend having an english hint guide/instructions or playing a English rom like myself. It's needed to read the hints for each floor given to you.

    • @ImportGamingFTW
      @ImportGamingFTW  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ashtendo I've heard about the "legend" of how random gamers used to help each other with hints left at arcade cabinets in Japan because of how cryptic or challenging some of the secrets are for getting past certain floors...something very cool about that. I planned on playing through blind at first, though I have thought about picking up a Japanese strategy guide JUST IN CASE. ;)

      DubiousGamingOnline No, but a lot of Namco/Namcot ones did. Even the Akira game by Taito that I have has a sexy clamshell that's a bit different and bigger from the Namcot ones. It's funny how there was no real standard set by Nintendo when it came to cart and box design for the Famicom in Japan, much unlike its policy in the States...guess the strict enforcement had to do with easing tensions from the video game crash in North America.

      Jimmy Hapa (Import Gaming FTW!) yes i do plan on doing it more. i did do some retroish gameplays of the original guilty gear on ps1 and guilty gear x on ps2. I hope to do some stuff on X2 as well. i'm going to try to make more of an effort to do more retro type content.

    Surprised this didn't get a release, it's not any worse than the rest of the Nes library.

      Elijah Doggett Thanks for asking--been a pretty busy month for me, but there is a rather large project I've been working on that you can expect to see drop sometime in February. I'm also wrapping up a collaboration with another TH-camr that will be released on February 1st. ;)

    And what really sucks that this was probably the best effort from Namco to use the N163 mapper on a game that is playable.
    Yeah... not a fan at all of text reading adventure, or complex strategy, or RPG games. :P
    Same applies to the VRC6,7 and MMC5 (the ones that used the extra 2 pulse channels) games.

    Nice video..sucks i don't know da Japanese or id check it out.. whats with the clans men looking mofos.. what namco characters are those? Anyway games seems kinda cool though the colors are sorta bland reminds me of the colors on something like barbie for nes but i'm sure its a much better game.

    • @ImportGamingFTW
      @ImportGamingFTW  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, when I talked about the graphics I was going to add in that they look like they were done in MS Paint, but eh. I think the devs were going for an animated movie look in contrast to the usual pixelated style found in games like Duck Tales...would have preferred the latter. And despite having some potentially racist whitewashing of an American football legend, those hooded guys are not clansmen. They're the goons from Rolling Thunder.
      Anyway, thanks for watching Bene.

    Too bad this wasn’t included on the Namco Archives 2 release. The NES version of PAC-Land is not good. This would have been way better.
