As an owner of a gen 2 myself, very accurate review! Completely agree with all these points. Would also add that the on-off throttle feel is a little jerky (better than gen 1 but still not fantastic) and the lever feel/feedback from the slipper clutch is kinda weird and took some getting used to. Also, in TC1 the front wheel will happily come up and send you over backwards if you get carried away, only TC2 stops wheelies. Nice one dude
I've got an XSR900 gen 2, and the difference between no TC and some TC is shocking. This is the 2nd bike I've owned with TC after having ridden decades without TC. In retrospect, owning a bike without TC now seems really dangerous (regardless of how much you "respect" the throttle).
I'm hoping to own MT-09 Gen 2 someday. I'm still saving up money for now still got $1,500 lol. Quite difficult to save money especially living in a 3rd world country. Hahaha Wish me luck buddies.
Just keep going my friend, I did the same and I bought my V2 2 months ago for 5000. Honestly at the end it cost me 3500 because I bought a DR650 supermoto for 3500 and 2 years later I sold it for 5000. I put the money away for months and one day boom ! Somebody selling a 2017 with nice upgrades and only 7000miles for 5300, he took 5000 😊. I love this bike !!!
Wow crazy i randomly came across this video, im the guy that bought the bike from you 😅. My dream bike and loving every moment 👌 can confirm all your points 💯
Perfect review man. As far as hitting the red because of screen size, you had yours for 2 years. I had mine for 2 weeks, and my ears tell me where it is. I never watched a tach on any bike i ever had. The ears dont lie.
As an owner of Gen 2 I can confirm points that you noted in the video but I would also add that few modifications can make huge difference between riding this bike like changing rear suspension to öhlins and change rubber brake cables to steel braided can relieve those points that you noted. Also, I will vouch for Ermax sport screen and Woolich racing kit for blipper (up & down) and other fun parts that came with it will make riding more exciting.
It’s one hell of a bike! This 3cyl platform is doing REALLY well for Yamaha. Personally went with the Gen3 XSR900 but these Gen 2’s are equally incredible. What are you replacing it with?
Good review buddy. For me, the upgrade isnt worth it without a quick shifter, which honestly should be on the base model considering the price is up there with the mt09 which has one on the base model.
Have you ridden the Tracer 900 etc version of it? If so, how does it compare? Would you buy a Tracer 900 or Tracer 9 over a new MT-09 if these two bikes were your only choices?
I've taken my MT-09 Gen 2 on weekend trips with no problem at all. I put a Puig screen on it... and I actually thinks it looks quite good. I also bought a Shad seat (official Yamaha accessory) and it makes a huge difference over the standard seat which I think is the worst part of the bike. Where I live 🇨🇦 heated grips are nice and the Yamaha ones I installed look good (no ugly box on the handlebars) work pretty well and are reasonably inexpensive.
Maybe a 24 Mt09 sp but doubt it. As I feel like he's done his time with the Mt09 model. So maybe he might try something different. So I would think maybe a ktm 990 or 1290 but I also can't see this also. Just doesn't seem to be his thing.
I had two fz09’s, and I completely disagree with most people. My second one, ‘16, was probably the best bike I’ve ever had. Granted, I fully upgraded the bike from top to bottom, so it doesn’t compare to a stock bike. But I never had the handling issues and only sold it after a surgery recovery ❤️🩹 prevented me from riding. Wouldn’t touch the newer ones. Ruined the great aesthetic of the original. Now get off my lawn 🤬. Ha. 👍🤪🏳️🌈
I think the Gen 2 is the most beautiful version.
Facts
Yup and then they decided to redesign and ruin it
So sad to see it go. I'm curious for your next bike.

Ah no, don't get rid of it! - I liked that you have the same bike as me! What are you getting next?
Maybe a sporty bike is been long but you got a back injury so it's best to avoid them so what is it gonna be curious for next video
MT09 are a awesome bike, close I got one over my Z900 .. wonder what comes next?!?!

I’m excited to see what’ll be replacing it
Really curious about your new bike! If youre still indecisive try looking at the Honda VFR800F!
Get a gen 3 now. Way way better as I came from a gen 2
I love them but I think I need a break from naked bikes
Gen 3 is ugly imo, Gen 2 is the best looking
Love the second channel vido keep up the good work bro
1:12 disagree! The first generation looks more elegant except for the tail light
Time to buy a KTM 690 smcr maybe????
Soooo you're waiting for the r9 :)
I wish I could let you ride and review my ZH2se
Love your videos bro
So the MT09 is not good for longer tripe? Like riding a half day and so on?
other bikes are gonna be more comfortabel but i got a mt09 gen 2 basically everything stock and i can ride about 4/5 hours straight

I'm almost certain this channel had a different name 🤔🤔🤔
Yes it did lol

Yamaha ruin it now . Honda would never
