I like how Iroh was all "No! We aren't firebenders! He's misguided!" Meanwhile Zuko was just "finally, an excuse to fight a customer."
It's funny joke, but Jet was not a costumer.
Zuko was accurately me by the end of my shift
@@damesayo4656 technically he was trying to buy some justice
@@damesayo4656 But by entering the tea shop, he became a patron. While he may not have purchased anything, until he opened his mouth after walking through that door he was a potential customer
Working in a restaurant, i absolutely understand him
Zuko living the food service dream where you get to fight someone who's being obnoxious at your job.
thats why the cops don't stop him
Zuko living an average day at Waffle House
@@swordsmanthegamernine7973 The Waffle House has found its new host.
Fun fact: if you Google “war in ba sing se” the search check thing will ask “did you mean: there is no war in ba sing se”
this is wrinkling my brain !!!
That's crazy and I love it
I just tested it, and I'm truly disturbed now 😅
THIS SO FUCKING COOL
Thank you for sharing this. It made my day to test it 😂❤
My favourite part about Jet confronting Zuko and Iroh is the fact Zuko has a whole ass burn taking up half his face, and is a refugee. Like, the other customers must have been like dude wtf thats a burnt child
Imagine they're just "Yo jet that is a grilled 16 year old, he is a victim of bending!"
@@lil_duck_XDI mean, he still technically is
Like "That's a burned war orphan man what the fuck?!"
Jet must have looked like the most privileged little asshole. No WONDER the guard was chill with Zuko fighting him.
Probably looked at the situation and Zuko and was like "No, you deserve a win. Kick his ass."
Iroh flirting made me roll my eyes as a kid, but as an adult im yelling for Iroh to get it
I have the same experience. I was super incredulous about flirting, especially as a means of manipulation. Now it's cute sometimes, like with Iroh. That woman is doing her job, but in the most mean way possible so I think it can fly here.
Fun fact: the size of the world in ATLA is under 40% the size of ours based on how long it took for them to travel between the poles.
Considering their world is made up of the north and south poles with only a third of asia in between I'd believe that.
I love the theory that Ty Lee is descended from airbenders. She looks exactly like Aang, just with different hair and an outfit. Some air nomads who weren't benders were elsewhere during the genocide and managed to survive.
That is a cool theory, but it seems air nomads were all benders. It's kind of hard to hide your identity when your kid starts gusting kids over. Cool theory tho. She may have just descended from followers of the nomads
there was no air nomad who wasnt a bender. no she is just athletic😭
That is an interesting theory and are one then Ty Lee being an airbender automatically
To those who say that she could not have been descended from air nomads because she could not air bend, iall the air bender nomads could air bend, but not every descendant could. Aang's kid Bumi couldn't (Initially), and Kya is a Waterbender. If an airbender's kid could not airbend, they probably just could not go to the temples and weren't considered part of them for logistical reasons. (You can't get to most without airbending)
It's perfectly possible that one or two of Ty Lee's grandparents or great grandparents were airbenders, and could have sired non-benders, or even kept their bending secret because of the order to slaughter the air nomads.
@@StealthMarmot_ Not to mention, if an Air Nomad gave up their spirituality for worldly possessions, that would also factor in not being able to bend. This is why Avatar Kyoshi has her fans; they're her mother's. Her mother was a criminal and thus this affected her ability to Airbend, due to a number of factors. So so used her fans to compensate. Never forget that Zuko thought "lemme go against an Air Nomad WITH FANS" in the Warriors of Kyoshi episode lol. Aang showed just how dangerous a fully powered Airbender with fans would be. No WONDER Kyoshi spammed Airbending so much.
"Either get with the feminist, get with the imperialist or become a wiccan and worship the moon, but you gotta pick one!" - This is my favourite Danny quote, thank you.
Agree. It live rent free in my mind jajajaja
The funny thing is, being a firebender isn't the only way to have reheated the water, a waterbender could do that too (if they can turn water to ice, they can boil it a well) and LOGICALLY it would make more sense for them to be waterbenders in this situation than firebenders.
I need a fic where Iroh and Zuko fake being waterbenders
I think its much easier for water benders to manipulate the water molacules and apply pressure to make water solidify than it is for them to make it into steam.
It possible but its probably much harder than making Ice.
@@matijasostojic4288and yet they regularly thaw ice in the middle of battle. (Like in season 1 Pakku vs Katara ) Definitely possible
@@V1G4M1 Yea but again. Solid and liquid water is easier to manipulate for water benders than steam or vapor.
Could Katara make it work or any master? Yes. But you aren't going to get a avarage water bender making steam.
No matter how fantasy it is or how kinda inconsistent it is. Water benders can't manipulate temperature.
To make steam a water bender would need to be skilled enough to both pull the waters molacules apart and cause friction for it to turn to steam.
You can forcefully make it into ice through pressure but you can't pull it forcefully apart in the same way to make steam or vapor.
also the fact that Zuko has that super obvious fire burn, it makes Jet look like even more of a jerk.
There is no war between Danny Motta and Alex Brightman😠
"Lied about kissing girls, though" - yeah we NEVER saw that coming.
"yeah no sh!t daniel we been knew" - me 2024
"launch a youtube career and kiss women" is a WILD statement
I really shouldve waited for the payoff on that joke
12:13 this feels like such an abridged series joke that I actually want it to happen. “YOU CLEARLY HAVE ENOUGH ROCKS JUST DROP THE WALL ON THEM AND REBUILD THE WALL”
1:20 there are actual drills like this in real life. They use it drill holes through moutains to make monorails go through them
basically, by turning it into mud and moving it away, their wont be a giant suffocating cloud of dust that surrounds the drill. not only that, but it will also make sure that a dust explosion wont happen if one of the rocks that hit it sparks off the metal, and ignites the dust.
That too
You took drills 101 didn’t you?
@@squimblow Or machining.
also mud moves better then just pure rocks
Isn't water also used in drilling to cool the drill down because the friction would make it heat up? And heat could deform the drill???
4:26 I feel like the reason that not all earthbenders need to move the earth with the “earth trail” and can just yank the earth underneath someone’s feet is a difference in skill from different earthbenders. Like, highly skilled earthbenders are the ones pulling off that move, and average to low-skilled earthbenders need to train to work up to it
24:45 i think its so immediately unsettling because it all feels so premeditated and institutionalized. the lantern being on the track makes it feel more intentional than a swinging watch; an entire room dedicated to this single contraption, an entire contraption dedicated to violently enforcing ignorance. it took time, planning, and effort to build and execute, which is communicated so neatly yet subtly by the visual/design choices that i still randomly think about it sometimes. hope this makes sense im loaded, great vid as always
My memory of The Drill episode is going to my friend's house to try and find the full episode online because we missed the premier and couldn't wait for it to be aired again. That is the day I learned how pirating and torrenting worked as well as the importance of having virus protection.
That's wild mom 😂
I love that Zuko doesn’t have to use fire bending to beat Jet. Like, he really isn’t the best fire bender, but that TOTALLY DISTRACTS from the fact that he’s INSANE at non-bending fighting styles.
About censorship in Ba Sing Se, I think it depends on the ring. Lowest ring? Floded with refugees escaping the war. Just ban talking about the war in public. Inner ring? Make talking in any setting about the war close to imposible and some people might never hear about it. Nobles and Earth King? All servants and guests are overseen by Dai Le and Long Feng.
There is no war in the Danny motta channel
Indeed :)
We all say in unison
War started when he dissed my fav anime Fairy Tail, now I wait to be taken to a lake and be brainwashed
I mean unless you count tbhk vs sasaki to miyano
In the Danny channel there is no war
2:15 This family has it so rough through this show. Spoilers for Book 3 if you're following along.
So we get to the beginning of Book 3, and there's a shot of the fire nation occupying Ba Sing Se after Azula and the Dai Li bring the walls down, and there's a shot of this family absolutely devastated and terrified. These guys have been on the run for forever, get their shit stolen, have to go through the Serpents Pass, and once they're finally in Ba Sing Se it gets occupied in a few weeks. They had it so rough.
9:55
The water tribes also, notably, live in the poles. Regions notorious for resource scarcity. The Fire nation had access to all the building blocks that England did during the first Industrial Revolution.
This episode could allude to several different times in history, such as:
The Nazis keeping the state of the war from Hitler.
The Nazis trying to convince the average citizen in Germany or a captured country that the H-word wasn't going on.
America's own disregard to: WWI, WWII, Afghanistan, Iraq.
North Korea.
Idr v well, but something in China.
Or just the general inevitability of a government's failure to give the population the truth regarding wars and other matters
Are you thinking about the Nanjing Massacre or Tiananmen Square protests?
24:33 I think this is related to EMDR!! (from someone who has had emdr therapy) ”EMDR therapy focuses directly on the memory, and is intended to change the way that the memory is stored in the brain.”
I think that can be an interesting comparison. However, having done EMDR therapy it isn't exact. EMDR is about reliving a memory in a safe place while remaining grounded (i.e. avoiding flashbacks or retraumatizing yourself) so you can heal and acknowledge that you are safe. Often it involves tapping on your hands or looking around a room at specific things much like traditional grounding techniques like 5-4-3-2-1 or breathing.
It doesn't change how you feel about something and it definitely doesn't change memories into something they are not.
Again, a cool connection, however I wanted to clarify since this might be someone's first exposure to EMDR as a concept and I don't want people to get the wrong idea and avoid doing something that could help them.
@@kiwithekiki234 Valid! having also done emdr, I wanted to make the connection on a more physical (animated?) aspect, the back and forth movement. You’re absolutely right, it doesn’t change how you feel about something, or rework your memories. Btw I love your username
24:42 I think the lantern on a track is just supposed to be a connotation for us to the swinging watch hypnosis thing, because positions of light (like the sun) were used to tell time. They’re in a dark room and after watching the light go around and around you’d probably lose track of time real fast the way staring at a swinging watch or a spiral would
Psych RN here. Hypnosis is a real form of psychotherapy that can be implemented in some patients but it’s nothing like you see in TV or films. Hypnosis basically works by placing the patient in an altered state of consciousness that makes them highly responsive to suggestions. It can be used to help people stop smoking, induce sleep, and promote weight loss.
The whole thing with the lantern is to cause ur brain to get confused enough to start accepting the input they're trying to give
For the brainwashing scene, the strobing effect and repetitive movement of the lamp (or any object really, usually it's a watch as you said) was supposed to disorient Jet enough inorder to make him more susceptible to what they say. I imagine that they did it over multiple sessions so that it would stick which is pretty messed up when you think about it.
And we only see the scene once to represent that same time distortion.
aang doesn't switch to running "just because," the air scooter has a finite duration and he basically, like... ran out of momentum for it? it's like spinning a top, eventually the top is gonna stop spinning. so he uses airbending to spin an air "top" that he rides on until it runs out of inertia and dissipates.
"become a Wiccan and worship the moon" is the best joke in this ep 😂
23:08 HE IS EXACTLY RIGHT BECAUSE THAT SCARED THE HELL OUT OF ME- AND THE FACT THAT YOU ABSOLUTELY KNOW SHES DEAD IS TERRIFYING
Also, I saw a point brought up on Tumblr about Jet and Zuko that I think is good to bring up on this episode:
Jet and Zuko are parallels. Literally 2 opposing perspectives from people who have been affected in horrible ways because of a war.
Jet, as psychotic and exaggerated as he is, represents the poor. People who can't afford to be in better places during a global conflict and are constantly being used as either "acceptable" casualties or cheap foot soldiers. Those who survive end up becoming mercenaries, war criminals and, like our friend here, anti-war extremists fueled almost exclusively by hatred for the people who support the war, no matter who they are. Sure, he's stumbled on the actual people who started the war and the disgraced prince who tried to help in it, but Danny's right: that could *just* have been any 2 firebenders trying to escape tirany from Ozai and Jet wouldn't have cared.
And Zuko, traumatized both physically and emotionally by the obsessive tyrant that his father is, currently is just trying to learn who he is if not a disgraced prince, while also decompressing and dismantling all the fire nation propaganda about how "the war is good, others are bad, we'll make them good". Zuko represents priviledge, and with Jet, he faced the consequences of having said privilege, he starts to see how the war affects people, the same war he tried to be a part of on that meeting at Ozai's war room.
I genuinely think this moment is what truly makes Zuko face what the war is actually doing to people, to the townfolk, what it takes from them. The fact that it is Jet who shows this to him is also beautifully written imo.
Airbending is the most op bending style because no characters in the show can actually see the air being bent. Also given that water has oxygen is in it air-benders would have some control over it depending on how much control they have could include blood bending as well. As well as any earth bending above ground could be redirected by an air bender as well. Not even including that they would be able to crush or explode the lungs of any opponent of theirs.
Just because water molecules are compromised of oxygen atoms, doesn’t make it actually oxygen. Air bubbles within the water could theoretically be air bent, but I don’t think you could manipulate the water that way. The water would just fall away from around the bubble/air as you bend it.
Air bending is definitely one of the more incredible forms of bending simply because of how easily you can get rid of someone with it. We've seen people get the air ripped straight from their lungs and it's very likely Monk Gyatso suffocated himself and all those firebenders. It and water bending are honestly the most terrifying for techniques while airbending and firebending are terrifying because of they don't rely so heavily on having easy access to their elements, they pretty much make it themselves
Can they not see the airbending? I feel like there is a lot of conflicting evidence in the show. On one hand, nobody saw Aang airbending Toph off the stage during Earth Rumble 6, but on the other hand, both Sokka and Katara were able to see the weird wind tunnel Aang created on the metal ship in the episode "Imprisoned".
@@lacytaylor1501 No, it's not very likely that Monk Gyatso suffocated himself and all those firebenders. For one, he and the fire nation soldiers would all fall unconscious before any of them died, and that would lead to Gyatso unconsciously releasing the air and letting it flood back in. So it's physically impossible for him to have killed himself and the fire nation soldiers through suffocation. Two, even if he took all the air out of the room so the soldiers can't firebend, they still had weapons. And since Gyatso also removed his own element, there would be nothing stopping the soldiers from just walking up to Gyatso and stabbing him. And killing him would obviously end the airbending, so the fire nation soldiers would survive.
@@en4833 in the show the air being bent is stylistically shown but in the cannon it would be invisible up to a point same way air works here.
Seriously dose anyone else think Danny would love EPIC the musical
A) yes
B) no not his thing
C) idk never heard of epic!!
( Kahoot music playing) 😂😂😂😂
YES
I really think he should react to that or do it and report back in another episode
YES (A)
@@tonybrock9027 Won't there be a problem with copyright? He did mention he has to be carefull while watching to Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss
C. Someone please explain.
17:20 i just had a startling realization: could firebenders bend the heat out of a living thing, freezing it to death?
the closest we've seen to removing heat from things is in the Roku flashback where Sozin kinda removes the heat from the lava
Well, I think they just control the fire? And there isn't any fire in our bodies, so that would be impossible
To answer the question about if the Earth King is the only one who doesn't know about the war, I think from what happened to Jet, we can conclude that everyone knows when they enter the city, but anyone who talks about it gets their memory of it erased. That keeps everyone else from talking about it, especially since they wouldn't know if they people around them had been brainwashed or not. Like, imagine one day, you family member with whom you usually talk about the war in private just stops having any recollection of the war and you just think "man, they got him."
That would be horrifying
There is no war in ba sing se.
And there is no week without Danny's videos
I like to think that Azula missing Aang as he's running down the wall drove her to practice hitting vertically moving targets which pays off at the end of the season with her lightning shot.
Yes because in a world where people can control earth fire water and air the mechanical drill is the unbelievable thing
The thought of young you cheering at Avatar is so adorable haha
23:34 This paints a very cool picture of how to establish an Earthbender villain as terrifyingly strong with them going against the Dai Li. As they go to do their thing, the villain just clenches their fist and the viewer can hear the cracking of their hands just offscreen as they're completely overpowered.
As far as the Earth bending goes, I think it also depends on your control of the earth your skills like between A regular earthbender and let's say bumi your skills are completely different and so they would have different control over the Earth. But the more skills you gain, the better control you have, the less things and steps you need to create for a move to happen for you to be able to control that part of the earth
Fun fact Aang has never lost a 1v1. And even though it was his hardest element to learn, Earthbending is canonically his second best element after Airbending.
One of my favorite Earthbending moments he has done is in the comics where after talking things out with a spirit doesn't work, HE JUST MAKES A GIANT FCKING COLOSSUS AND GOES "PULL UP!"
True but he also tends to go into Avatar State when he is in a real important fight.
@@TheLastSane1fair enough. Still cool asf though.
“Anyone think it’s weird that the tea shop kid is nasty with the swords? No? Nah me neither.”
The worse part of this show was catching it every morning before school because new episodes were still coming out
Fun fact about hypnosis, the key is more repetition and relaxation to get the subject down into the right trance state. A rotating lanturn WOULD work. The lights are dim, so his eyes naturally latch onto it.
On the Earthbending thing, I think it heavily depends on skill. I remember Katara mentioning that it's difficult to bend water she couldn't see so I'm guessing it's kinda the same for earth that earthbenders aren't touching/near.
10:09 I think this is the FUNNIEST thing I’ve ever heard😂
Here’s the answer to the avatar version of rock paper scissors in my opinion
Earth blocks Fire
Water cuts Earth
Fire evaporates water
And no air since it was wiped out or fire kills air as well
I would say water beats fire earth beats water fire beats earth
8:20 That is actually how some drills works. The rocks are turned into mud by water jets so they are easier to dispose of. That's why when they plug it, the whole thing explodes with mud.
10:30 nvm he got it
I see a Danny-notification - I click. I'm simpel like that
The reason they're turning the rocks to mud is for ease of transportation. Liquids are easier to move than solids so by making it mud they can keep drilling without needing to stop to clear the pipes. Easier to maintain too, moving rocks will always cause mechanical damage. Density, sharp corners, dust and other debree getting into the mechanisms.
I never noticed until now that as she says “I won’t get in the way” she actively moves into Toph’s path and gets in her way. Brilliant.
As for the student guy, even if he doesn’t know about the war she could’ve been shaking her head to tell him to not even engage with the question.
10:07 BARS absolute BARS I don’t know why that line had so much rhythmic flow to it.
The sokka joke about picking a girlfriend is my favorite.
"There is no Danny Motta reacts to Ba Sing Se"
This episode always freaked me out. It's unfortunate of what happened to the guide.
Crazy thing…there was never a scene where the Ju Di s were found and freed soooooo….Team Avatar really said that’s not our mission
Ha- start of video and I know there's more to this than meets the eye.
5:56 yes-
To be fair, people might be (reasonably) acting like Jet is crazy because it's (probably) not illegal to just BE a firebender (especially not if you're not bending openly/publicly) or from the fire nation. Why would it be if the Dai Li is trying to silence all acknowledgement of the war? It might even be a legal nono to openly ostracize ex-fire nation citizens, because kids/people who don't know about might wonder why. People around them are probably thinking "Why tf would they bother lying about that?? They're a tea cafe, if anything them using firebending would be an attraction?"
Someone might eventually recognize them if it was well known they were from the fire nation, and being disgraced WANTED royalty might get them in some hot water with the city and townspeople but until someone recognized them, they'd probably just be quietly assumed to be refugees by those who know about the war, given Zuko's scar at such a young age, and thus those that do know about the war might even be reluctant to bring attention to where they're from and might encourage those who don't know not to make such a big deal about it to avoid the topic of why they probably immigrated there.
One of the best lines in ATLA "there is no war in Ba Sing Se"😂
I heard a theory, I genuinely would like to hear your take on Danny... Tai Lee is actually an Airbender, but she disguises her moves as circus moves so the fire nation doesn't catch on.
I may be a bit late, but I'm an English teacher and I showed the "there is no war in ba sing se" to my students when I taught 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. It directly references the banana massacre in Columbia. The only survivor in the book returns and discovers that everyone in the town forgot and denies it ever happening. Just in case Danny does care about what it could be referencing
The censorship in ba sing se is largley based on modern china which also has a lot of censorship and surveillance. I highly recommend the avatar videos made by xiran jay zhao, where she goes over cultural influences in atla. She explains more about ba sing se in ber book 2 video
Excited for more atla let's go!!!!
(fingers are still crossed for Centaurworld in future but no rush. Fully enjoying what you got right now)
I thought for a second that this video was Danny watching through the rest of season 2 in a single video
From my understanding when a water bender "Freezes" water, all they are doing is making it a solid. It doesnt get any colder. So they can freeze someone in a block of ice and not hurt them.
Danny spending ages ranting about earthbending is so relatable to me as a writer lmaooo
12:37
Can we talk about what Azula’s shoes are made of? Because as cool as it is to see sparks coming from them as Ang pushes her back. That means there’s actually metal in her footwear. Which is insane.
18:47
😂😂😂
Danny's "you gotta pick one" response to Sokka is just Nick Millar's "you get one wife" just in a different font lol
I have never watched avatar before or his reactions but I just want to show support for the anime reactions
"Sometimes things can just be a big drill" - whole plot of gurren lagan
I love the people sitting awkwardly in the tea shop when Jet accuses Zuko, who clearly has a giant burn scar on his face, of being a fire bender. I bet they had headcanoned that he had narrowly survived a fire bending attack (not untrue...) and here's this wild person accusing him of fire bending!
HE FORGOT TO LEAVE IN THE "have you been hitting the cactus juice again" 😭😭😭
Might be wrong, but I always felt like earthbending and waterbending were the most difficult bending styles, learning wise. Mostly because they’re the only ones that primarily need the user to understand how much of the element they’re bending to create what they need. For instance, when Tai Lee uses the earth mount as a jump boost, the earth bender must’ve visualized what he wanted to do, and then did whatever technique was necessary to make it happen. Otherwise he might’ve just made the earth shift in whatever direction his technique was facing.
Kind of like jutsu’s in Naruto, just because you have lightning release, doesn’t mean you’ll instantly make any lightning jutsu. You need technique and precise knowledge of what you’re trying to create.
Don't forget, Jet tried to kill a whole fire village so him trying to get 2 random fire benders found is not surprising. 😂
"Holy shit what happened to Gary?!"😂
"Or become a wiccan and worship the moon"
As a pagan, I accept Sokka into my friend group
I know that this isn't your most watched series, but it is my favorite TV show, so thank you for continuing even if your not getting as much money from it than you would with things like owl house or helluva boss.
Just stopping by to say: For that community post, I honestly love watching you react to shows I've seen, because I love seeing how other people react to it. So to me I'm cool with anything you watch, be it Anime or Animated film! Though seeing you react to my favorites always makes my day!
One anime i recommend is fruits basket. I think Danny would like that one a lot. It’s one of my favorits of all time. This is also the first time I’ve ever commented on a Video so feel lucky😂
There's a character in the Kyoshi novels whose MO is basically "remove the ground from under his enemies" and he's regarded as a war criminal for doing this so there's that
The I’m Judy line is burned in my head it was so scary
It’s a simplification but it’s basically using sensory deprivation and flooding to destabilize the subject and bombarding them with a simple ultimatum to agree with the statement and suffering ends. It’s coupled with starvation and sleep deprivation. See “there are four lights” in Star Trek TNG.
The reason Earth benders arnxt op, is because they need to see the rock they're bending (or have a really good idea where it is) and get it to point a to point b. Where Air and Fire benders can produce their own air and fire as long as they got the oxygen to work with.
This is why Toph is actually op. With her skills, she can virtually "see" any earth around her
Yeah that'd be wild if there was a whole country choosing to collectively ignore conflict going on around them because it wasn't affecting them directly combined with the internal threat of an organization that would murk them if they spoke out about it. Nothing like that has EVER happened in the United States before.
according to youtube- 37 likes and no views? my man did NOT fall off🗣️🔊
I was scared you weren't going to continue this serie since you said it didn't get a lot of views ! I'm happy you're continuing !
during my road trip!!?! Danny you're a blessing.
Was literally just thinking “I hope Danny uploaded already” thank you for the content sir 🎉
too many people sleep on your reactions to this series, bangers as always
The way Danny’s finger was glowing like the lantern talking about the brainwashing was funny asf
I've never watched avatar, but the creepy lady reminds me of orochimaru in the forest of death. Their faces are so disturbing and unsettling
So glad Danny is back reacting to avatar thank goddd I thought it was gone for good
Funny that you mentioned Perfect Blue because I was imagining Juliee laughing in the intro for Paranoia Agent!
... I don’t remember if we ever found out what happened to her....
I just catch up to your ATLA comentary videos. Been bingewatching!
I think it's about time we got a danny patron plug ranking video 😂
There is no war in Ba Sing Se *Eye twitch*
Okay, but that guy saying the drill wouldn't work... have they literally never heard of a tunnel boring machine?
