i have the segye with the big foam grip in 40lbs and the kaya ktb in 50lbs. pros of segye @40lbs -32 max draw -smooth draw -lightweight -big comfortable handle -rayskin arrowpass -comes with a korean bowsleeve cons of segye -only one color option when you order with big foam grip -stickers are a little cheap for $200 bow. would rather see some whipping -center serving on string is a little on the thin side -they were out of stock of the bow, but didnt mention it on the site, took them a month to get the materials to make the bow pros of kaya ktb -not sure what material they used to cover the limbs, but it seems nicer than the segye, almost feels like leather, thin leather -not as many stickers, instead used whipping -was able to find for only $140 shipped in the USA cons of the kaya ktb -leather arrowpass deteriorated quickly(i ended up buying rayskin leather and adding it to all of my bows that didnt have a rayskin arrowpass) -smaller handle. the handle is leather-wrapped, and bigger than my ottoman bow, but smaller than the segye -no bowsleeve the YMG handle looks great, weather resistant and grippy, decent size, but might effect my way of khatra. if i could email all the korean bow makers my wants they would be 1.) bigger handle (atleast as an option) 2.) include a bowsleeve 3.) more color options

Very cool. Thinking of picking one up simply because of the size and weight compared with the performance, so this was a helpful comparison. Plus why not have a bit of variety?
I heard that Koreans choose bow length according to arrow length which in turn is related to arm length. Some Korean bowyers also seem to sell RH and LH models in Korea, which seem to be tillered a bit sideways. I own a Kaya and and a Forever Carbon. Proper Arrow selection makes a huge difference it seems. I would love to get more infos on choosing the right arrows and bows length from Korean manufacturers, as well as more infos on proper technique.
The answer I've been given more than once on seeking the correct arrow for a bow, (providing your draw weight (poundage), draw length) is to ask the bowyer, maker, or at the very least the seller. Email or phone them. Buy the appropriate arrows with the bow.
for korean bows in general, recommended arrow weight is about 7gpp. save draw lentgh of korean bows seem to correlate with the bow length. 48´ about 31.5´, 50´ about 32-33, 52´about 33.5 - 34.
From what I found out until now is that very soft(proper spined, not too soft!) arrows give very good arrow flight. Checked after tuning with the dynamic spine calculator of 3rivers and this gives the same result. These "proper" spined soft arrows only need a little bit of torque, and give smallest groupings for me. I can shoot very stiff arrows as well, but need a lot more torque, and groups are bigger. Problem with me is arrows in between these extremes, these tend to still bend a lot, hit the riser and give very bad arrow flight. Testing a whole range of different spined arrows would make an interesting video. And of course checking with what korean bowyers do recommend.
Awesome as usual 😁 I've been wondering for some time now how to shoot these bows. I've seen them shot at traditional 140 m, and they always do a lot of side khatra. But with the string stoppers and such narrow limbs, I wonder how does that even work?
The price of gakgung is very high (About 1000 usd based on freddie archery website). Besides, the bow might get damaged during the shipping process due to inconsistent heat and temperature. So hmm, it's very risky to buy gakgung by using export method... And, if I'm not mistaken, it's also really hard to take care of gakgung, you need a specialised box to store it (because it used natural glue on it). If it doesn't be taken care carefully, it will be delaminated. And that bow might only suit south korea temperature, but not for other countries. So hmm, it's very risky to have it. Just be grateful and appreciate what Armin had shared with us :)
Excellent comparison my friend. Of the 12 different bows I own I don't have a Korean bow yet. When the time comes it would be the ymg expensive or not I liked the shape of this one more. Thank you my friend keep em coming!
@@MiaogisTeas yes my friend they have that true Korean look slightly aggressive curves! The host of Korean bows on the market right now seem to have that performance minded look. Not quite mimicking the true hornbows in tiller and curve. Some of the hybrid bows coming out of Indonesia right now have that aggressive slightly more rounded curves. Something about the more squared curves of most laminated bows on the market. There not quite as appealing.
In fact, no one knows how to make gakgung in Korea because there are no production methods or real ones. Therefore, it makes no difference whether it is made abroad or in Korea.
Nope. Where did you get that false information? There are still numerous makers of the traditional gakgung numbering on the hundreds and they cost hundreds to thousands of dollars if you will buy from those masters. The makers are considered a tangible cultural asset so they are assisted by the government. Also, there are specific instructions on how to make the gakgung from historical records and writings of the Korean bowmakers from ancient Korea up until the Joseon dynasty. Those writings are preserved.
Too bad that nowadays the bow that is considered to be korean bow, is actually korean target practice bow, and not the real korean bow used in war. And you eaven see in the movies koreans using this practice bow, cus nobody really makes korean war bow style bows anymore. There is few manufactures that kinda do, but they are not exact shape.
@@ArminHirmer true, but nowadays when they test the korean bows performance they test this practice bow desing, and it doesn't perform like the war bow does, especially with heavy arrows, when compared to other bows, cus this practice bow just isn't designed for that
@@ArminHirmer you will have heavy poundage bow? That will be interesting, you make nice videos. Btw i taught you cannot have higher poundage than 60 in malta?
I think they were Wae Pirates that raided until Joseon eventually occupied Tsushima to stop the pirates from attacking. Eventually, the shogunate and the lords of Tsushima signed a treaty with Korea to stop the pirates and so that Korea will stop the occupation of the Tsushima islands. Korea throughout its history managed to defeat numerically advantaged enemies due to its mastery of military technology and the skills of the Koreans with the bow and arrow.

Just go away,,those bows are beautiful and my addiction is kicking in...I love ❤️ Bows
내 마음이 평온해짐
Awesome as usual 😁
I've been wondering for some time now how to shoot these bows. I've seen them shot at traditional 140 m, and they always do a lot of side khatra. But with the string stoppers and such narrow limbs, I wonder how does that even work?
they are all quite good in torque resistance
I also find Them stiff and sturdy. Just a bit Harder to shoot accurately. I guess because of the narrow limbs, Just one Inch wide
@@rolfbaumann7585 They are interesting bows for sure 😁
Between nomad (have many user) and kaya wind fighter... I prefer kaya wind figter
how far can the arrows shoot ?
For sure 145m
Are there Korean bows that have draw lenght up to 34 inch?
yes almost every 53" long bow is supposed to do 34" which I think is always the utmost limit of the bow, but it is written that they can
I can confirm that 53" bows can easily draw atleast 34".
What materials are they made from?
wood, fiberglass, carbon
I am trying to figure out the best bow...the monarq and the alibow...gah! Both are so beautiful. Its like I want it all!
Me too
if you use KKAKJI at your right thumb you could enjoy more performance....
And the Monarq is the only one that can be made in 70#-95# . I have a 95# and it is a monster.
The ymg also
beautiful bow
Love a good korean bow

Unfortunately this is not traditional korea bow. Just reform? I want to see you a real gakung.
Just be grateful and appreciate what Armin had shared with us :)

when somebody is sending me one, I will >)
Excellent comparison my friend. Of the 12 different bows I own I don't have a Korean bow yet. When the time comes it would be the ymg expensive or not I liked the shape of this one more. Thank you my friend keep em coming!
Yes, the YMG and Alibow versions were quite attractive.
Cool.. next manchu-mongol-tibetan (long ear contact siyah) bow please..
I’m making a review on an alibow Manchu bow
'Dolmen' is 'dolmen' in Korean.
Nice
Like the ali bow.
What a cool place to learn archery. And I am watching this instead of US 2020 election. Thumbs UP

@@rogm84 no thanks. i sell enuff Bows in my Country. but if you ignore the best Korean Bow then i have to mentioned it.
loved the comparison, and thank you for the video Master.
And still it is a Korean bow, of course they had different designs for different purposes
@@ArminHirmer true, but nowadays when they test the korean bows performance they test this practice bow desing, and it doesn't perform like the war bow does, especially with heavy arrows, when compared to other bows, cus this practice bow just isn't designed for that
I know. Not many build war bows and they need to have high poundage and I max out at 60 hahaha. But soon I will have one here
@@ArminHirmer you will have heavy poundage bow? That will be interesting, you make nice videos. Btw i taught you cannot have higher poundage than 60 in malta?
Just war bow design, but not too high poundage for me :)
He speaks of a Korean traditional bow, but the world is the best in the world.
That bow is not a traditional Korean compound bow
전통 각궁 아닌듯 합니다
전통 각궁은 시위 않걸렸으때 거의 원형 입니다

Japanese looters said Chinese spears, Korean bows and Japanese muskets were the best. (芝峰類說, 1614)
