Thousand of dollars?? Are you a salesman? I can't believe someone spent thousand of dollars in strawberries

Thanks for the Info....I also heard a while ago that Strawberries are from the Rose(like a plant)family.
Thanks for the info and glad you like
Do you have one on sanitizing your vegetables? Thank you!
Not yet!
I don't have a salad spinner can I pat them dry? Thanks this is so helpful
Yes just make sure they are very dry
That’s exactly what I was wondering too! I just got a gallon and a half for my two daughters 🍓
Hi Jerry, it's been too long. We have no AC and the temp is 90 ° in San Jose and high 80s. My strawberries dont last 2 days. I've washed them dried them, disinfected container. Arrrgh. I knew you would come to my rescue, you're my cooking and food care hero! I'm Mexican and I had to turn to you for storing cilantro, oh the shame! But my cilantro lives! I used to store herbs in water fridge door in my other life, but now 4 adults n 1 fridge I have make use of my allotted space wisely!
Glad this helped!
Amazing, after following your advice, i’m still eating the same batch of strawberries I purchased four years ago!
years?
@@jerryjamesstone yup, your method is wildly successful 😁
I LOVE this video!
Yum!
Thanks!
enough fun facts
YAY
I don’t have a salad spinner so I’m going to try putting them back in the original container with paper towel and spinning in a circle with as much velocity as I can muster while holding them! 😅 i’ll let you know how it works! 😋 thanks for the info, I wish I had known this years ago!
Try a blow dryer or let them air dry
Thanks ! Can you use this technique for other berries like blueberries ?
Yup!
Hey Jerry thanks for this video. I'm trying this out as I am writing this. I just soaked my strawberries in this solution and O.M.G. I had no idea how much was actually on strawberries. I have been cleaning them totally wrong. So since I did not have a salad spinner I dried my strawberries by hand using a paper towel to get all the access water off the strawberries. Now I have them in the fridge in a container and I will see if they do last a bit longer. I'll let you know.
You are welcome! Let me know how it goes.
@@jerryjamesstone So I prepared my strawberries on Friday.....totally forgot to check on them due to working all weekend. I finally checked them when I woke two hours ago today and I was so shocked to find out that they were still good and had not gone bad. Fruits and vegetables are perishable and do not last that long. With proper cleaning of these perishables it could give them just a little bit extra time before they go bad. You doing these videos are a GOD send. Thank you so much. I'll b e checking out some more of your videos.
I just got two pints of the best strawberries ever! I don’t want to freeze them coz they’re so perfect, but also I can’t eat them all at once so will try this method and keep in the fridge. I shall report back! 😃
Let me know how it goes!
Jerry James Stone Day 4 and still good as new!!! Thank you so much! Now I gotta eat the last 4. 😁
omgoodness. Thank you I will be washing some tomorrow for a fruit platter for Sunday, I never knew this trick and I was a caterer. (sad face) THANK YOU
You are so welcome!
verynice
Thanks
I love this - thank you so much. But how does it work?! I'm guessing the vinegar is effective because of its acidity and the baking soda because of its alkalinity. Doesn't adding the two at the same time cancel each other out? Also, is it possible to use lemon juice instead of vinegar?
the result is still acidic. but you can just use the vinegar. I wouldnt use lemon
Sir, i tried this and it works!! .my strawberries lasted almost 2 weeks
Thank you..
Yay!
I messed up the first time I did this, but my grapes lasted three weeks. Will try again today! Fingers crossed!
Let me know how it goes.
Pj2457, I still have some grapes 🍇 in my fridge that I know have been in there over two weeks, just rinsed gently in water and stored in a large T+upperware on paper towels. I need to use this method on berries next!
After soaking in solution could I put them on paper towel lined cookie sheets and then dry them with a fan? I do not have salad spinner. Thank you for the video.
Sure, that will work! Just make sure they are fully dried before storing them.
You should make another video with it showing how they look every day, to prove they last up to 10 days.
That is in the works.
I always make this method and it works for me 😊 I'm making cakes with strawberries in it. Tried and tested this method 😊
@@kailafernandez5572 Tried and tasted?
Really wanted this tip as my strawberries were not lasting for more than 3 days thanks
Glad I could help
Hi Jerry, you seem to know a lot about strawberries. Actually I learned way more than I needed to know...lol
As I was watching many videos on strawberries, b/c I thinking about selling chocolate covered strawberries for Valentine’s Day. One blogger mentioned if you soak your strawberries in salt water for about 15 to 30 minutes, little worms will come out. She demonstrated it on her channel and guess what, I saw the worms. Please explain. Thanks!
I have not tested that yet so I don’t know if it’s true
I don't know if you mentioned or answered already, after removing from liquid, do you rinse w water or just put them in the spinner as is?
no rinse. just rinse before eating.
Is there an alternative to the salad spinner? Don't have one. TIA for any suggestions.
blow dryyer? leave em out til they dry fully
Nice video! Do you wash the strawberries again after the vinegar and baking soda?
Thanks! No, but I do rinse my berries before I eat them.
Hello! So glad I found your video! Just want to ask which is better; store them in a jar without being fully covered and put them in a closed cabinet without any coldness? Or put them in the fridge at low cold temperature or very cold temperature? I live in a very hot country and am new to storing strawberries, so I was wondering which way is better.
Definitely store them in the fridge
@@jerryjamesstone thank you so much! I hope you could make more videos about tips and fun facts about strawberries! I really love your content!
Jerry James, love your name. Would I be correct in thinking this is a good cleaning solution for cucumbers and tomatoes as well? Thank you for the great advice.
James in Texas 👢
thanks, not for those as they arent as affected by the bacteria that is on delicate berries
Gosh your a life saver! My strawberries 🍓 will last longer for now on:) Thanks a bunch:)
happy to help
Hello thanks! What's an alternative to the spinner?
Just make sure the berries are completely dry before storing.
I put mine in the center of a kitchen towel, gather up and grip the edges tightly, step outside and windmill my arm around in a circle. Alternative salad spinner ;)
I have heard of cleaning strawberries like this. I usually only need to keep them a week or a few days. I usually just dry them off and store them with paper towels around them. Definitely gonna try this though. I'm going to try not sealing the container. But I also have some containers that have holes in them kinda like what strawberries are in at home stores.
Awesome!
Tnx....
How about, what other fruits can i store in this kind of method
I have a lot of videos on storage, check out the playlist
does this help prevent them from getting mushy/soft as well? looking to keep that fresh crunch
to some degree
Hi i am from Algeria thanks , de van use the water and the salt only?
i dunno
I have a ? for you. If you didn't have salad spinner. Could you the strawberries on a tea towel or paper towel to air dry? & would you let them completely dry? I'm assuming they wouldn't be completely dry from salad spinner. also not sure if I missed it but can this be done for all fruit & veggies ? Thank You from Medicine Hat, Alberta Canada
Yha, you can air dry
Do you wash them after taking out of solution and before drying in spinner?
nope. just wash before eating
I always thought that vinegar and baking soda “neutralized” each other, which would have made this a waste of both. Fascinating!
they do amounts matter though
@@jerryjamesstone Can you expand on this? It seems to me either the baking soda or the vinegar will be immediately neutralized upon mixing, leaving only a smaller amount of one of them active in the solution.
@@BlueGorillaInTheMist You are exactly right.
A little chemistry lesson here:
Baking soda (Sodium bicarbonate) and vinegar (Acetic acid) will immediately react chemically and neutralize each other, because vinegar is acidic and baking soda is basic. The resulting chemicals of this chemical reaction will be: carbon dioxide in gaseous form (Which is what causes all that bubbling when you mix the two chemicals), water and Sodium acetate. Carbon dioxide will leave the bowl as a gas so we can ignore it, but what will be left in the bowl are:
1. Water - The one you put in at the start, the water that the vinegar was diluted with (since vinegar is not 100% concentrated acetic acid but a mixture of that and water), and the newly, chemically, created water that resulted from the reaction itself.
2. Baking soda OR vinegar (But never both) - Whichever you put in excess, if you got very close to balancing them exactly, both of them will be present only in trace amounts. If you didn't balance them exactly one will be present and the other one will not be present in any meaningful capacity, it still might be present in trace amounts as when the concentration drops the reaction slows down so there might be some still left in there, as it didn't have enough time to react without heating and mixing, but probably not enough to have any effect. So generally you will only have one of the two left but in a much smaller concentration than you originally had.
3. Sodium acetate in solution - Which is a sodium salt of acetic acid much like sodium chloride (Your basic table salt) is a result of a neutralizing reaction between hydrochloric acid (An acid, obviously) and sodium hydroxide (A base). Now, although a salt, sodium acetate does NOT chemically behave like table salt. It can be toxic in high amounts but in small amounts it is used as a food additive or even preservative so it could actually help here, although I don't know how exactly does it preserve food so I don't know if it would help in this particular instance. I don't know all that much about its properties so I can copy the relevant part from Wiki:
"[Sodium acetate in] Food
Sodium acetate may be added to food as a seasoning, sometimes in the form of sodium diacetate, a one-to-one complex of sodium acetate and acetic acid, given the E-number E262. It is often used to give potato chips a salt and vinegar flavour, and may be used as a substitute for vinegar itself on potato chips as it doesn’t add moisture to the final product. Sodium acetate (anhydrous) is widely used as a shelf-life extending agent, pH control agent It is safe to eat at low concentration."
@@markoap91 Great explanation! I was wondering if the process would be better if you did them each separately like making a water and baking soda solution washing it that to help pesticides, rinsing them well, then soaking them in a vinegar and water solution to remove mold, then pat them dry and store them in a glass container with a piece paper towel at the bottom for any extra moisture.
@@micahjohnson9184 not really an expert in preserving food, just decent in chemistry, but I believe that doing them seperately like you described would be better. At least you won't neutralize the chemicals so they can do their job.
Can I use these strawberries with milk ie smoothie
Or will the vinegar on strawberries react with milk
you should wash them before using.
Did I miss the ratios of vinegar and powder? I can’t wait to try this. I’ve been putting them in the freezer after a few days an put them in my smoothie.
You can kinda wing it
3 parts water, 1 part vinegar and 1 tsp baking soda per 2 cups of liquid 😊
Jerry James Stone, can this be done with blue berries using the same process?
Yes
Does it make a difference leaving on the green part or can they be taken off before washing
Anytime you chop into a fruit or vegetable it’s going to degrade faster I would leave the greens on
can you use this same method with raspberries and blueberries?
Yes
Would you rinse the strawberries after the vinegar solution?
No
