This car actually has an electric pump in the fuel tank although on this occasion the option didn't appear on the scan tool. However, this is a method if you do not have bidirectional controls available. Cheers Dave

U dont have to use fuel return line to prime the pump. Just turn ignition on and off(dont start the engine) few times , buzzing will be heard underneath the car. The pump will prime itself. Then after 3-4 times of doin this just start the engine , job done , no need for vacuum pump etc.

Nice work Dave...man things have changed a lot, when I worked on diesels the filter housing had a prime button on top I remember pumping the crap out of those...lol. We don't see diesel cars over here at all, they are as rare as dragon balls...and if you did fine find one knows what to do with it...lol.

yeah johnny, the renaults, honda, toyota diesels have a primer bulb or a push button like you say, tho the vag's and fords you have to pull the diesel through manually. i have been asked a few quesions from some guys across the pond when they get a diesel in especially the common rails. cheers dave

I recently did high pressure fuel pump that went fine then I got another error for fuel pressure too high it turned out to be the fuel pressure regulator after I changed that my idle is now lumpy. Do I need to purge the air out of the system? Since I had the rail out I’m guessing that might be it?

I own an 2016 Audi A7 TDI. Yesterday, I did a maintenance checkup of fuel injectors and glow plugs. For that off course, I removed those injector's silver fuel lines. It took me almost 4 hrs.
After that when I start the car, the starter ran for almost 20 seconds until finally car started. Also, during those 4 hrs the car was parked on an inclined driveway.
My question is, do we still have to Bleed or Prime Fuel pump after the service I did? The way car started, later I thought that for sure air went into system when my injectors lines were removed, which should have pushed fuel back into tank cuz od inclined driveway.
Please guide. Thanks God it started but I am sure I might have caused some damage somewheres or may be next time if I keep doing this.

May I ask why you felt the need of changing the fuel filter? Was it one of the following reasons:
    1) You were getting bad gas mileages?
    2) It been certain years passed and you never did that so decided to do it?
    3) Like me, had this itch of messing around with perfectly working and funtion things?
Also what change you noticed? Did your miles per gallon increased? Please if you can share this information.

Hi Dave, the engine looks the same a mine, I have an Audi a4 b8 2011 and I will be changing my fuel filter today.. thanks to your tutorial.
Dave I am having issues with the DPF, the symbol comes on the dash, I take it for a good run and it eventually goes, but this practice is taking longer each time. I know a few days in advance that the symbol will appear because the fan keeps running after the engine has been turned off. I have just brought a can of Wurth dpf cleaner to try and clean the filter whilst it's still on the car. Have you any further suggestions to deal with this issue ?
